So, last time I saw LCD monitors, if I'd look at them from an angle that wasn't straight on, the colors would wack out and go kinda negative, so this kept me using CRT monitors due to the perfect viewing angle, no matter the angle. My question is, have LCD monitor viewing angles been improved, or are they still crap unless you look at them from straight on? I'm buying a new computer and parts for it, and I need to know before I can buy a monitor. Thanks. |

They seem to be improved... I'm using an 19'' 2ms Samsung LCD right now and I haven't seen any negative image angle what-so-ever... |

The colour is always going to be incorrect at extreme angles, but even with the problem (if it is even a problem) it is better than an SD CRT screen. There are loads of problems with LCD screens, but the defenition and slimline changes are vast. It is a little silly to not buy an LCD because of negativity. (that's what the colour inverting is called). If anything you should worry about picture burn. But either way, there are no advantages to having a CRT screen. Unless you have a CRT projector which is 100' big. Which is about $90000000000000. |

LCD's have vastly improved, the one I'm using now, if you view it from too low an angle the top of the screen gets a little dark, which is a pain for playing games like Stalker Clear Sky cause it can be very dark, but thats the only issue, theres barely a difference viewing from the side or top. As LCD monitors go, I'd recommend an LG, especially the Flatron L series, very good monitors, and you can get a 20-22" widescreens between £140-180 This is the one I have: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-058-LG&groupid=703&catid=17&subcat=&name=LG%20L207WT%2020%22%20Widescreen%20LCD%20Monitor%20-%20Black And the 22" version for about £30 more: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-054-LG&groupid=703&catid=17&subcat=&name=LG%20L227WT%2022%22%20Widescreen%20LCD%20Monitor%20-%20Black The prices will go up after Wednesday tomorrow though, but not by a lot. My primary computer screen is a 24" Benq FP241W and cost me ~£620 over 18 months ago when it was released. Prior to this I was using a combination of an alright'ish 17" LCD screen and on my other computer a rather cheap 15" LCD TFT, that was >10 years old. It only had one dead pixel and still did the job - but if you changed viewing angles then it did have problems, but I'd have said that any recent TFT models from the past 3-5 years should be fine regarding your question. |

I use a Samsung 40" LCD tv.. There is no glare or reflection ever and the colors/shading don't negate at any angle. In a couple of weeks it will be 12 months old, and still no burned out pixels that I have noticed. Also haven't noticed any image burn and at the very least an XP desktop is up on the screen most of the time it is on. I've fallen asleep many nights or wandered off for hours forgetting it was left on a webpage or desktop with no screensaver.. done this many times, or roommate has, there's no evidence of burning yet. It's used as an all-in one for tv, computer monitor, jukebox, videogames, movies. It's in a common room and is on no less than 6-10 hours a day sometimes. I actually can't believe there isn't frames or border or scrollbar or system tray menu burned into the screen, because it does get used a lot, anything media related and the LCD is on. It does radiate a lot of heat though. For about 4 inches in front of the pixels, you could keep a dinner warm if you could suspend it there somehow. In the summer it made the house hotter. If you walked anywhere near it, you felt the heat on your face. It's also durable. I live with 2 cats, sometimes they chase the mouse cursor. The LCD is mounted to a wall but there is a piece of media furniture below it that hold amplifier, PC, DVD, PS2 etc.. The cats get on top of that and stretch up 3/4 of the screen, bang at the screen, and scratch the thing all the time while trying to grab the cursor they extend their claws and slide down to the bottom. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard and there are still no scratch marks yet. It's been abused by them but you'd never know, even when the power is off there are no scratches to be seen on the surface. It's a tough surface texture. |
