Day 1
Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

“I do believe you are avoiding me,” Henry spoke softly as he followed his little girl out onto the deck outside of their home. Melissa smiled and laughed. Shaking her head as she replied with the same gentle laugh she had given him before,
“I am not avoiding you Henry,”
“I ask you a question and you diverse. Is that not avoiding?”
“No. It’s not,”
“So what is it?”
“It’s called being curious and worried,”
“Worried?” Henry asked as he took a hold of the chair outside. Watching as Melissa took a seat on the chair in front of him. Smiling as she looked up at Henry. Feeling a little warm in the sun now as she looked down at her white vest and blue jeans. Her feet bare as she hung her right leg over her left. Staring up at Henry again as he asked,
“What are you worried about? I believe you told me that CTU was operating at its best?”
“It is.”
“… Today will go perfectly,”
“You know I’m not very good at throwing parties,”
“Yes, but I am here to help you. There is also Jack. And Paul and Annabella are also here to help you,”
“Yeah I know,” Melissa sighed softly with a sweet smile. Closing her eyes as she brought her hands to her face. Covering her face, shaking her head slowly as she groaned quietly. Henry tilted his head to his right as he pushed off from the chair he leaned on. Staring down at Melissa as he moved to stand beside her. Taking a step forward when they heard a scream from upstairs.

Melissa’s hands shot away from her face as both she and Henry looked up at the bedroom window. Finding both windows open. Hearing the same scream again before there was a familiar scream of,
“Dad!”
From Amy.
“Jack is awake,” Henry chuckled gently as he took a seat in front of Melissa. She smiled and nodded her head slowly. Lowering her head as Henry slightly pulled up the grey trousers he wore. A white shirt tucked in neatly. The two held in place by a slim black belt that wrapped around his waist. The white making his grey hair seem silver. His eyes having some spark in them as they met Melissa’s eyes. Asking her softly,
“How are you feeling today?”
She remained silent for a moment. Studying Henry's face and his eyes before she asked,
"This about that whole memory thing? Or are you actually asking how I am?”
“I am not very secretive, I know,”
She smiled and nodded. Folding her arms as she relaxed in her seat. Staring at Henry as he asked,
“How are you?”
“I still don’t remember anything,”
“But it has been three years,”
“Yeah I know it has… Should it have all come back by now?”
“I do not know… Have you spoken with Doctor Bradson?”
“Yeah, talked to him last week.”
“…And?”
“He told me I was fine. Nothing to worry about,”
“That is good news,”
Melissa smiled and nodded again. Shrugging her shoulder as she whispered,
“I guess it’ll come whenever it wants,”
“How can you be so calm about all of this? I would be terrified if I was waiting for those kind of memories to return,”
“That’s not helping,” Melissa laughed. Seeing the smirk on Henry’s face as he nodded his head slowly. Whispering softly to her,
“I apologize,”
Before he glanced back over his right shoulder. The two watching as Amy rushed down the stairs. Grinning and giggling as she ran out of the open door.

Henry sat up in his seat. Pushing himself to his feet as Amy whizzed past him and ran straight for Melissa. Grabbing a hold of the edge of the seat. Hiding behind her as Melissa asked,
“What’s going on?”
“Dad’s comin for me!” Amy giggled, peeking out from the side of the chair. Suddenly seeing Jack come down the stairs. Standing at the bottom of the stairs for a second. Quickly looking into the living room before he turned and looked into the kitchen and through the open door that led out onto the deck. Seeing Melissa and Henry awake. Amy peering out from behind the chair Melissa sat in. Smirking as he began to make his way out towards the back door. Laughing gently as Amy screamed and bolted. Racing down towards the beach as Melissa called back to her,
“You be careful down there, alright?”
Amy didn’t answer. Continuing to run down onto the sand. Giggling and squealing as soon as Jack came out onto the deck. Smiling and laughing as Melissa smiled and giggled. Shaking her head before she watched Jack approach Henry. Patting his shoulder gently as he spoke quietly,
“Morning Henry,”
“Good morning,” Henry replied softly as he watched Jack come round to Melissa. Holding her cheek softly as they shared a loving kiss. Smiling and brushing their heads lightly together as he whispered,
“Morning,”
“Morning,” she whispered back softly,
“How are you doin?”
“I’m alright. How about you?”
“I’m alright. Just gotta go get the birthday girl.”
Melissa smiled and looked back behind her. Hearing something crash behind them. Jack raised his head and looked down at the first step of the stairs. Seeing a small stone from the beach sat on the wooden floor boards. Amy giggled and squealed as she stood at the bottom of the flight of stairs. Making her way back up the steps as Jack called to her,
“C’mon baby! Come and get somethin to eat!”
“Okay!”
Jack smiled and looked back down at Melissa. Crouching down in front of her as Henry excused himself and made his way back into the kitchen.

Melissa shook her head as she sat up straight in the chair. Smiling at the soft touch Jack made on her as he took a hold of her hands. Staring into her eyes as he asked,
“Are you sure you don’t remember anything?”
“If I had remembered anything, I think you would have known about it,”
“Not even the smallest picture?”
“No. I don’t remember anything,”
Jack sighed softly. Staring into her eyes as Melissa repeated,
“I don’t remember anything… at all. It’s just… black. I just remember… well… y’know. That night. Then I’m in the clinic… I don’t know what came between that. Especially since you guys won’t let me look over the debriefs,”
“Bradson ordered us not to let you into those,”
“It might help me remember what happened,”
“And give you an emotional breakdown at the same time. He said it would be easier for you if it all came steadily. Tackle one step at a time. Not all at once.”
She sighed softly again. Knowing he was right. Both telling themselves that they couldn’t think about it that day. Looking back at Amy as she reappeared on the deck. Smiling at her as she came to stand between them. Stepping closer to Melissa as her mother whispered,
“Come here,”
Jack pushed himself up to his feet. Smiling as he watched mother and daughter embrace. Holding on tightly as Melissa whispered to her,
“Happy birthday!”
“Thanks mom!”
She kissed Amy’s cheek softly before whispering,
“Now go give your dad a hug too,”
Amy smiled and giggled as she pulled away from Melissa. Turning and running three steps towards Jack before throwing her arms around his waist.

Melissa pushed herself up to her feet as Jack leaned over and lifted Amy into his arms. Kissing her other cheek before whispering,
“Happy birthday sweetheart,”
“Thanks dad!”
“But you’re still goin to school,”
“Dad!” Amy whined as Melissa smiled and laughed. Walking with the two back into the kitchen as Amy objected,
“Shelly’s mom and dad let her have a day off school!”
“That's Shelly's mom and dad. That’s their problem,”
“Make it your problem too!”
Henry smirked and laughed gently at the rebound from Amy. Shaking his head as Melissa asked,
“Why is everything a problem in this house?”
“I don’t see any problems in this room,” Jack replied, smiling as Melissa smiled and shook her head. Turning to Henry as he asked,
“What would you all like for breakfast? What time do you both have to be at CTU?”
“Is today the meeting?” Melissa asked as she looked back at Jack. Seeing the quick nod he gave her before he leaned over and placed Amy back down on her feet. Running his hand over the little girl’s brown hair. Watching her run off into the living room before he stepped closer to Melissa. Explaining the details of the day to her briefly before they were interrupted by Amy’s shouts from the living room,
“Which one can I open first?”
“Hold on!” Melissa called back to her as Jack turned round and made his way into the living room. Soon followed by both Melissa and Henry with drinks and breakfast. Taking up the seats in the room to watch Amy open her cards and presents before she disappeared upstairs to get ready for school.

Henry gathered the mugs and small glasses and placed them on the tray as Melissa picked up the plates. Looking over at Jack as she asked,
"What time do we need to leave?"
"Not yet."
"I know that," Melissa laughed as Henry took the plates out of her hands. Making his way into the kitchen. Quickly glancing back behind him. Watching Melissa make her way over to Jack as he stood by the window of the living room. Staring out onto the road outside. Smiling a little as Melissa wrapped her arms around him. Holding onto his shoulders as she kissed the back of his neck softly. Whispering to him softly,
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing,"
"I hope you're not going weird about today,"
"What do you mean?"
"Amy's only ten years old, Jack. Not sixteen or eighteen,"
"Yeah I know," Jack breathed out quietly as he brought both of his hands to hers. Holding onto her as Melissa asked,
"So what's bugging you? And don't say nothing. Cause I can tell,"
Jack smiled. Hanging his head gently as she kissed his neck again. Blowing out a soft breath against his skin as she eased her arms out from around him. Reaching for Jack's hands as he turned round to face her directly. His shoulders dropping as he stared into her eyes. Leaning closer to her as he interlocked his fingers with hers. Squeezing her hands gently as he whispered,
"Just... are you okay?"
"I'm surprised you're not ill yet with all the worrying you're doing. Wasn't it you that told me to not worry about everything?"
"But this is you I'm worryin about,"
"I know. But look at me, I'm doing fine."
"But for how long?"
"I start to worry about this memory thing, I'm going to turn out more paranoid than what you're being right now,"
Jack closed his eyes and hung his head. Tilting his head towards Melissa as she laid her head against his. Sighing softly as she whispered,
"Look... I'm okay. I'm okay right now. So... Just... You'll know when something's wrong. Cause I doubt I'm going to be able to hide it when it comes..."
Jack sighed softly. Not sure how to respond to her words. Deciding to stay silent. See if she would continue on.

Melissa sighed softly herself. Shaking her head as she stepped even closer to him. Releasing the hold they had on each other. Hooking her arms around him as Jack wrapped his arms around her. Closing his eyes as she whispered softly,
"I know you're scared and worried about me. And some people probably think I'm not thinking right since I'm not thinking about it or anything. And just carrying on with life as normal. But that's what you, Henry, and my parents told me to do. So..."
Jack opened in his eyes and inhaled quickly but shortly. Raising his head as Melissa whispered again,
"Just... Try and not to think about it. Cause if you keep thinking about it, then I'm going to start thinking about it. And you know what will happen if that happens. Going to have a whole different situation on our hands which will probably be more difficult to handle than that bomb scare the other week."
Jack smirked and pulled away. Sliding his hands down her arms that slowly fell away from him. Taking a hold of her hands as Melissa whispered a slight laugh,
"So, don't turn into me cause you won't like it,"
He shook his head. Almost laughing if it wasn't for Amy to shout from upstairs,
"Dad!"
"You got rid of that spider didn't you?" Melissa asked as Jack kissed her cheek quickly. Moving to walk out of the room as he answered,
"Yeah I got rid of it,"
She nodded her head slowly. Turning and watching him walk out of the room. Taking a stand at the bottom of the stairs as he asked,
"What baby?"
"My computer doesn't work!"
"Why?"
"I don't know! Come fix it!"
"You want me to handle it?" Melissa asked as Jack turned a little. Smiling and shaking his head before he replied,
"No, it's okay. Don't worry,"
Melissa snorted and shook her head. Walking towards him as Jack began to climb the stairs. Smirking and looking back at her as Melissa spoke sarcastically,
"And you tell me not to worry. Born comedian, you are,"
"I'll be right back," he laughed gently, making his way half up the stairs before Amy came rushing out of her bedroom. Crying out again as Jack continued to climb the stairs,
"Dad!"
"I'm comin. Hold on,"
Amy whined and turned away. Rushing into her bedroom again as Jack steadily followed her into the room.

Henry turned and faced Melissa as he leaned back against the counter. Folding his arms as Melissa slowed her pace. Almost hesitant to take another step as she asked, curiously,
"What?"
"Anything?"
She closed her eyes slowly. Slapping her thighs limply with her hands as she walked forward. Opening her eyes as Henry defended,
"I am only curious,"
"You've been curious for the past three years... And all morning too,"
Henry sighed and hung his head. Staring down at the floor as Melissa approached the breakfast bar. Holding onto the edge. Raising her shoulders as she looked down at the table. Letting her head fall back as she breathed out softly,
"You guys are doing all this worrying. Can't you let me worry sometime? You've done more than enough of it,"
"We care about you," Henry responded, lifting his head to focus his eyes on her. Her hands tensed and pushed her away from the table. Taking a step back as she whispered,
"I know that. But please... It's been three years... Maybe it's not what Bradson thinks. Maybe it is actually permanent,"
"You wish for that?"
"Yeah I do, to tell you the truth. That way, I won't have to get paranoid at night thinking that if I go to sleep tonight... those memories are going to come for me in my dreams,"
"Have you told Jack this?" Henry asked, pushing away from the counter and unfolding his arms, "I do believe you have not told anybody that information,"
"Oh bloody hell!" she cursed, turning round so her back faced Henry. Walking away to escape from the situation. Only to have it follow her as Henry called to her,
"Do not walk away from me,"
"I'm not a little girl Henry. Just... Please, let me be alone for a few minutes,"
"You have spoken of something new. I wish to help,"
"You guys have helped enough with all your worrying that you're doing,"
"Please stop and look at me. Do not turn into what your sisters were," Henry requested. Playing the emotional card. Having no will or desire to stop the smirk from coming over his face as Melissa came to a dead stop in the living room.

Her brown eyes flickered left and right. Holding back guilt filled tears with a deep breath. Turning round to face Henry as she whispered,
"I'm going to-"
"I am sorry for saying that, but you need to speak,"
"Oh I'll speak alright,"
"Do not take that path," Henry cautioned kindly. Watching as Melissa sighed. Shaking her head before she began,
"Look, I really don't want to talk about this. Can't I just have some time to... register, this,"
"This? What is this?"
"Whatever... this is..." Melissa answered quietly. Shrugging her shoulders as she stared at Henry. Smiling, almost laughing as she continued, "Cause this is really doing my head in. Whatever the hell... this is,"
Henry smiled and laughed. Shaking his head as Melissa whispered,
"I'm sorry about that,"
"No. I am sorry for pushing you. Of course I know you need your space. But just remember that we are here for you, and we are worried. We do not want you to break down or anything,"
"I know. I will. Don't worry," she fell silent for a second. Looking back towards the front door after hearing a pattern of knocks hit the window. She quickly looked back at Henry. Backing away towards the door as she finished telling him,
"I promise to tell the closest person to me whenever anything happens,"
"Including the enemy?"
"Well the enemy sees me going berserk or not, they'd probably shoot me anyway,"
Henry smiled and laughed again as he took a hold of his left wrist with his right hand. Standing straight as Melissa turned fully and jogged over to the front door. Unlocking the door on the right. Pulling it open to see Paul and Annabella outside. Seeing the huge grin on Annabella's face. The rolling of eyes from Paul. She knew what had happened. Unable to hold back her laugh as she asked,
"How long?"
"Six bloody hours," Paul whispered as Annabella stepped inside. Kissing her daughter's cheek as she asked,
"Where's the birthday girl?"
"Amy's upstairs in her bedroom," Melissa answered as Paul stepped inside. Hugging and kissing her cheek before he stepped away. Looking round as Annabella asked,
"Amy's still in bed?"
"Oh, no. She's awake. Got some problems with her computer. Jack's checking it out now," Melissa explained, closing the door behind them before following the three into the kitchen.

Jack glanced back over his right shoulder as he leaned over the small white desk in Amy's bedroom. Hearing the laughter and occasional shout from downstairs. Wondering what the hell was going on until he heard Paul and Annabella downstairs. Jack smiled. Turning his head to look down at Amy as she whispered with a broad smile,
"Nana and dada are here?"
"You wanna go down and say hi?"
Amy grinned and nodded her head quickly. Staying still for a second as Jack kissed her hair softly. Whispering to her quietly,
"Go on, I'll be down in a sec,"
"Thanks dad!"
Jack smiled and stayed still as Amy climbed off her chair quickly. Racing out of the room as Jack straightened his back. Staring down at the screen as he listened to her quickly rush down the flight of stairs. Hearing her reach her destination as Annabella cried out happily,
"There she is! Birthday girl! Give us a hug and a kiss!"
Jack shook his head and folded his arms as he studied the blue screen in front of him. Not sure what to do with it, he turned off the monitor and the computer. Deciding to leave it alone for the day as he turned and followed Amy's steps downstairs to join the rest of the expanding group in the kitchen.

Melissa smiled and folded her arms as she looked down at the present Annabella and Paul had bought Amy. Smiling more as Amy held up the white dress and whispered,
"It's so pretty!"
"Yeah! You going to say something to grandma and granddad now?"
Henry smiled and watched as Amy gave the two her thank yous. Giving them both hugs and kisses. Smiling and laughing gently. Even as Jack came down the stairs and stepped into the kitchen. Smiling as Amy rushed round to him with the dress. Holding it up for him to see as she told him,
"Nana and dada bought it me!"
"You gonna wear it tonight for your party?"
"Hmm mm!"
Jack smiled. Ruffling Amy's hair gently as she giggled and shouted,
"Dad!"
"Go hang it up in your bedroom, you need to go get ready for school,"
"Okay!"
"Good girl,"
Amy smiled and ran out of the room and back up the stairs. Leaving the adults alone as Melissa asked,
"What's wrong with her computer?"
"I don't know. I'll have to get Chloe or Morris to come check it out,"
"That bad?"
Jack nodded slowly. Stepping further into the room as Paul asked,
"So, what's this about one of your agents going MIA?"
"MIA?" Annabella asked, following the voices in the room as Jack asked,
"What are you talkin about?"
"There's an agent that's not been in contact with you guys for almost six months now," Paul answered quickly,
"Who's he talking about?" Melissa asked, turning her head to lock eyes on Jack. Shaking his head before he turned to Paul. Staring at him as Paul explained,
"Some agent called Karl Simpson. The undercover agent in Saudi Arabia. Last contact with CTU was six months ago,"
"He said he was needing to go dark."
"Six months?"
"Depending on the situation, dark periods can last for however long is needed,"
"Jack's right," Melissa agreed,
"But come on... six... months?" Paul asked,
"If there was any need to worry, Buchanan would have said something by now,"
"But you guys are in charge of field operations,"
"Karl Simpson is a nephew of Bill's," Jack replied, "Bill said he would personally look over the work. Me and Mel were in contact with him six months ago when he said he would be goin dark with us until he knows it's safe to contact again. But he's stayed in contact with Bill throughout these six months,"
"Bill told you this?"
"Yeah he did. Last method of contact was a text message two weeks ago,"
"Saying what exactly?"
"Sayin he was fine and still undercover,"
Paul nodded his head slowly. Sighing with relief as he turned slowly on the spot.

Melissa smiled and laughed gently. Looking back at Paul as Jack commented,
"Think you can still handle the surveillance work in field ops?"
"I'll get there," Paul breathed out heavily. Running his hands over his head before letting them hang by his sides. Turning his head to Henry as the eldest man offered,
"I shall take Amy to school. If you both need to get out of here,"
"Where you guys going?" Annabella asked, looking between Jack and Melissa until one of them spoke,
"We need to head over to CTU. Look over the new team we're developing," Melissa answered, "Need to get over there for about ten o'clock... I think,"
"What about the party tonight?" Annabella asked, "Need any help?"
Paul turned and left the room. Taking Jack with him. Leaving Melissa to speak off the items that were still being to be crossed off. Laughing as she called to them,
"Oh thank you."
The guys smiled and laughed gently. Taking a stand in the living room as Henry stepped closer to Melissa. Annabella moving in as Melissa began to share the plans for the party that night. Explaining her and Jack's schedule for the day. Explaining the plans for the night. Grabbing a pen and a scrap of paper. Quickly scribbling down the food, drinks and decorations they were still needing before Annabella took the list. Smiling as she whispered,
"I'll sort that out. Got the day off today. No patients,"
"Thanks," Melissa whispered, smiling still as Henry whispered,
"I will take and pick Amy up from school. Anyone else I will need to bring?"
"No. I got the messages and everything from the parents. They'll be bringing over their kids when the party starts,"
"Mom!" Amy shouted from upstairs,
"What's up?"
"I'm ready!"
"Okay. Henry is taking you to school today baby. Me and dad have got to go to work,"
"Okay,"
"I'll start the shopping now," Annabella whispered as she began to make her exit. Taking Paul with him as Henry left to help Amy finish getting ready for school. Leaving the couple downstairs to get ready for work.

En route to CTU - Los Angeles

The house was empty by nine o'clock that morning. Henry was out just a few minutes the hour, taking Amy over to a friends house before taking her to school. Annabella was on her way downtown to buy what else was needed. Paul sitting in the back seat of the car Jack drove himself, Paul and Melissa over to CTU in. The car filling with an awkward mood. Sliced in two as Paul asked loudly,
"So... How's it going?"
Melissa looked up into the rear-view mirror of the car before she looked at Jack. Turning her head away from both men as Jack asked,
"What do you mean?"
His eyes wandering over to the rear-view mirror for a second. Seeing Paul nod his head towards Melissa. Jack shook his head. Facing the road again as Melissa responded,
"I saw that. I really wish you guys would stop this,"
"It's been three years," Paul answered back,
"Jack and Henry told me the exact same thing. And my brain isn't that burnt out just yet. I know how long it's been. I've been for weekly check ups for the past three years... Can't you guys have a day off?"
The two men sighed softly. Looking in opposite directions for a second before Melissa whispered, desperately,
"Please, just... Be quiet about it. The way you guys talk, it sounds as though I should be scared stiff about what might just come back to my head,"
Melissa fell silent quickly and looked over at Jack. Still seeing concern in his eyes. Fear all over his face,
"That bad huh?" Melissa asked, leaning over slightly to get his attention. Jack turned his head quickly to the right. Locking eyes with her for a second before he looked back at the road. Glancing up at the rear-view mirror as Paul's phone rang out from the back. Grateful for the disturbance in the back. Looking back at the road as Melissa fell the tiny distance back into her seat.

Melissa shook her head and turned to look out of her window. Watching traffic zip past them. Continuing to stare out of the window as Jack whispered,
"I'm sorry. I know you're annoyed and frustrated with us asking you about this. But what happened to you was... Traumatic,"
"Yeah I know," she breathed out softly as she turned her head away from the window. Looking back at the road as Jack added,
"We're just worried about you."
"I've been doing my job for the past two years." Melissa told him as she turned her head to the left. Staring at Jack as he whispered,
"Yeah I know,"
"So... Just... I don't know. But, can you guys just knock it off. I'm trying my best not to worry about it, but with you guys keep going on and on about it. It sounds as though I should be a wreck by now."
Jack smiled weakly. Quickly looking at her as Melissa whispered,
"Just, please stop worrying for a bit. I told you, if something came back to me, I doubt it would keep me quiet... It'll probably scare me to death first, but I'll make sure I scream before I drop down dead,"
"That's priceless," Paul chuckled. Getting the two to look up into the mirror together as Jack asked,
"What is?"
"That that she just said,"
"Well I'm right," Melissa replied, getting another laugh from Paul, "You guys just need to cool off a bit."
Jack nodded slowly. Smiling as he whispered to her,
"Alright,"
Focusing his attention on the road again as Melissa looked back through the two seats. Watching and waiting for Paul to mutter with a smile,
"You got it lass,"
She smiled for a second before thanking them. Turning back in her seat as the three became silent. Seeing CTU off in the short distance away from them.

Comm Team, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

The three agents made their way through security with ease. Holding no weapons and all metals were the regular accessories they carried with them. Stepping out and round into the next corridor to find Bill Buchanan and Karen Hayes approaching them. Slowing their pace as the three suddenly became two. Paul diverting away, remembering a phone call he was needing to make to DoD. Quickly excusing himself and spinning on his heels. Taking the opposite route round to Field Operations. Melissa shook her head as soon as she noticed the worrying looks on the two faces that made their way towards them.

Slowing her own pace as Karen got straight to the point and informed them both,
"The teams have already been selected,"
"Both FOX and VIXEN?" Jack asked, "Who selected the teams?"
"Davis,"
"You allowed a comm member to select two field ops teams?"
"He was in field ops before he transferred to comm,"
"He was in field ops for three months and couldn't handle the pressure,"
"He still has experience,"
"Not as much as we do,"
"Well, it's too late now. They've been selected,"
Jack shook his head and stepped round the two. Melissa following closely as Bill called out to Melissa,
"Bradson wants to see you as soon as possible in the clinic,"
Jack stopped and turned. Staring at Melissa as she shook her head and muttered angrily,
"Not again. I'm going to hit someone,"
Jack sighed heavily. Running his left hand down her left arm as she walked on. Taking a hold of her wrist as he called out to her gently,
"Wait, hold on,"
She huffed angrily still. Freezing on her feet. Never turning round as Jack asked,
"What's Bradson wanting to see her for? He only saw her yesterday,"
Bill shrugged his shoulders. Answering back vaguely,
"That's all he told us,"
Jack nodded his head slowly. Looking back at Melissa as she whispered to him,
"The doctor can wait. I'm not messing about with this right now."
Jack nodded again. Looking back at Bill as Melissa fought to get away from him. Telling them both quickly,
"We'll deal with that later,"
"But-" Karen began. Interrupted by Melissa,
"We'll deal with it later... Not in the mood right now,"
The two stood still as they watched Jack turn and follow Melissa as she broke away and walked off. Leaving them both stunned and confused at what had just happened.

Jack followed her down into the next corridor. Watching the space between them grow as Melissa tried to escape the subject that had cursed her for the past three years. The year off to recover and receive treatment had been hell enough as it was. Closing her eyes as Jack told her the truth,
"You can't run from it."
"I can try," She rebounded, opening her eyes and continuing to walk away. Turning as soon as she heard Jack jump into a steady run. Getting a hold of her hand and turning her round to face him as he whispered,
"Hey,"
"Look, I'm not angry."
"Really? I couldn't tell,"
Melissa smirked. Shaking her head before she whispered,
"Funny... Look, all I want to do, for just... bloody... day, is for people to just let me live. It's Amy's birthday. There's the birthday party for her tonight. And I don't want to be in a bad mood for it. And I don't want to ruin her birthday with this memory stuff going on. So, just for one day please. Can we just leave it?"
He nodded his head slowly. Staring into her eyes as she whispered,
"Just one day... Please?"
"Alright,"
Her eyes fluttered steadily. Taking a hard swallow. Nodding her head slowly as she whispered,
"Thank you,"
"Are you alright?"
"... Eventually, I guess."
"I mean right now,"
"Yeah, I'm alright. Probably just need a few minutes to calm down,"
Jack nodded again. Kissing her cheek softly before whispering,
"C'mon. I'll handle Louis."
Melissa nodded. Closing her eyes for a second as Jack kissed her cheek again. Squeezing her hand gently before turning her round again. Making sure she was still with him as they made their way over to the training rooms.

Training Room, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Louis was stood by the observation room window when the two directors step inside. His short curled blonde hair barely moved with the amount of gel that coated it. Piercing blue eyes focused on the door that opened with a loud buzz. A smirk curling on his lips as he watched Melissa walk inside. Looking back behind her as Jack stepped inside. Allowing the door to close by itself as he moved towards the window. Looking through the sheet of glass as Louis turned to train his eyes on the four members in the room next door to them. Folding his arms as Jack hissed,
"Get outta here Louis,"
"I'm doin my job, Jack,"
"Your job is with the comm team."
"I've been in field operations,"
"Who selected you to look over the testing?" Jack questioned as he turned his head to Louis. Continuing as Louis turned to Jack and folded his arms, "You're not a field operative. You're part of the comm team. You don't have the right or clearance to do this,"
"Too late Jack. It's already done,"
"I'll have it reversed. Get outta here. Now!"
Louis shook his head and threw apart his arms. Looking back through the window until Jack called out,
"Mel, get security,"
She nodded and took a step away before Louis cried out quickly,
"Yeah alright! Alright!"
Jack turned and watched as Louis backed off and made his way towards the door. Quickly glaring at Melissa as he commented,
"Don't see what you see in this guy at all,"
"Just get lost," she huffed, stepping away as Louis reached for the door handle. Clearing the lock on the door. Waiting for the buzz from the lock to activate before yanking open the door. Watching him leave and for the door to shut fully before she walked over to Jack.

He huffed gently. Looking back at the window. Folding his arms as Melissa came to stand by his right side. Looking into the room as she asked,
"Can you reverse this?"
"... No, I don't think I can,"
"But you're going to try anyway?" she asked, turning her head to him. Jack looked back at her and smirked. Making her smile and laugh, "Okay. I guess you wouldn't want a team to suddenly get caught up in gunfire and have them drop to the floor with their laptops,"
"My point exactly," Jack replied as he turned to the computer in the room. Unfolding his arms as Melissa nodded her head. Looking through the window again. Finding the FOX team made up of a Caucasian and African America agents. The VIXEN team made up of two Caucasian agents. Staying perfectly still as she listened to Jack pull the chair back and take a seat. Bringing up four new windows on the screen as Melissa asked,
"Who are they anyway?"
"Checkin now... FOX team is... Michael Tucker and Adam Lister. VIXEN team is Faye Atkinson and Laura Romano."
"We're still sticking with the set up?" Melissa asked as Jack stayed seated at the computer,
"Yeah. You take VIXEN. I'll handle FOX."
"... Anything on their backgrounds?"
"They were all members on LAPD. Got referred to FBI six months ago by their sergeants. Looks like the FBI thinks they're good enough to be part of the team,"
Melissa sighed softly. Bringing her hands round to the back pockets of her jeans. Slipping her hands inside as Jack added,
"They're clean from what their background tells us,"
"But you don't trust that?"
"I've seen agents in CTU have the cleanest backgrounds." Jack began to tell her, climbing out of the seat and returning to Melissa, "And they turned out to be one of the worse people to step foot in the building,"
"So, what do you think we should do?"
"I have an idea,"
"That idea an interrogation?"
"Possibly,"
"An interrogation to see if they're moles?"
"We need to be sure,"
"They look like kids, Jack," Melissa argued, "How old are they anyway?"
"Early twenties,"
"What? All of them?"
"Youngest is on your team,"
"Who?"
"Romano. She's twenty two,"
"Twenty two. And already referred to the FBI?"
"You sound surprised," Jack commented. Looking at Melissa as she smirked and fell silent. The two looking back into the room to watch the new teams agonizingly wait for their bosses to set foot into the room.

They studied the teams for the next eight minutes. Taking in the details from what their eyes could already see. Hair colour. Eye colour. Body height and shape. Any scars or distinguishing tattoos or marks. Watching their behaviour. The way they reacted around each other. Making sure each other was ready to introduce themselves when the door buzzed behind them again. They spun in sync together. Turning to the door to see a different agent step inside. Jet black hair instead of the bleach blonde that Louis' head had been covered in. Melissa turned away and looked back through the window again. Listening to the guys behind her as Jack stepped away and greeted quietly,
"Hey Greg,"
"Hey Jack. What you guys doin?"
"Just checkin in on the new teams. What's up?"
"What's this about that MIA agent?"
"Karl Simpson?" Jack questioned as Melissa turned round and watched the two men, "Bill's nephew?"
"Yeah. He hasn't been in contact for months,"
"He was in touch with Bill two weeks ago,"
"That's now what I heard,"
"What did you hear?"
"Heard that was a screw up. Some guy with the same number sent to Buchanan's cell,"
"That's not possible,"
"I thought Buchanan's cell number was a hidden number?" Melissa asked, "I thought it had been given out to only a select few?"
"It was." Jack answered, keeping his eyes on Greg as he asked, "Who told you that?"
"Some guy in comm,"
"... Louis Davis?"
"Yeah. How'd you know that? He told you guys the same thing?"
"No. The past three months, he's been messin around with the logs. And data on the servers,"
"So why doesn't Bill give him the boot?"
"Cause he's apparently good at his job,"
"What job would that be?"
"Being an asshole from the sounds of things," Melissa answered. Turning back to the window as Greg chuckled. Shaking his head as he moved to join the two by the window.

The teams inside were still on the floor. Sat down together in a group. Smiling and joking between themselves. Greg shook his head. Wrapping his arms around his chest as he commented,
"You guys are field ops. Why don't you do somethin about this MIA agent?"
"Karl called six months ago and told us that he was going to have to go dark until further notice. But explained that he would send text messages to Bill whenever he could,"
"But still, don't you think it's suspicious?"
"Unless Bill says somethin, then we wait."
Greg shook his head. Staring at the group in the room as he asked,
"You're not worried then?"
"Not yet," Jack sighed, "When Bill comes to us with a problem. We'll deal with it,"
Greg nodded his head slowly. Staying still as Jack ended the conversation,
"Right now, we've gotta sort out these two teams. We're not reachable for the next few hours. Got it?"
"Yes sir," Greg replied. Watching as Melissa led them both to the door next to the edge of the window. Entering the code to unlock the door. Waiting for the buzzer to sound before she pulled open the door. Hearing Greg leave through the door behind them. Quickly glancing back at the two as they disappeared into the next room with the two teams.

Training Room, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

The group of four inside jolted at the sound of the door being unlocked. Cursing quietly between themselves as the door opened. Each of them scrambling to their feet as Melissa walked inside. Bringing her hands behind her back, she held onto her right wrist with her left hand. Taking a step back towards the wall. Watching the group stand to attention as Jack stepped into the room. The door closing behind him as his hand slipped away from the door handle. His eyes scanning the group of four that maintained straight faces. Fighting to keep their eyes trained on the wall. Hands clenching tightly. Looking slightly tense as their arms hung by their sides. Feeling a part of them shiver as they heard the buzzer echo from the door. Hearing the lock clunk firmly. The girls blinked hard. Taking in a deep breath as their eyes fluttered open. Looking over at Melissa as she asked them both,
"What are you scared about?"
"Nothing ma'am" they responded together. Melissa shook her head and released the hold on her wrist. Her arms hanging limply by her sides as Jack moved to stand between the two teams.

The short sigh that Jack gave out sounded almost threatening to the two teams in front. Threats that weren't directed at the four, as far as they knew, innocents in front of him. A threat that was brought on by the thought of Louis wrecking a plan created by himself and Melissa. He shook his head slowly. Turning his head ten degrees to his left. Focusing his eyes on the African American agent after hearing his voice speak out in request,
"Permission to speak sir,"
"This isn't the army,"
"I know sir. But the agent before you guys ordered us to talk like this sir,"
"The agent who selected you all isn't qualified to make the decisions surrounding these two teams,"
"Sir?"
"What you've been told is futile information,"
"Does this mean we're not on FOX team sir?"
"No,"
"... I don't understand sir,"
"What's not to understand?"
The agent remained silent. Taking a hard swallow as he blinked slowly. Jack staring at him as the female agent on the end asked,
"What's goin on sir? I thought the agent who was here before was in charge of the teams, sir?"
"He did appear qualified sir," the other female agent commented.

Melissa smirked as soon as she heard the words that had been uttered from her mouth. Watching Jack's head snap to the right. Seeing the judder of the woman's body as Jack's intensity was brought onto her. Gulping at the feel of his eyes on her. Bringing his hands round to the back of him. Holding his right wrist with his left hand. Taking a step closer to her. Applying more pressure to her nerves as he asked,
"Did he tell what experience he had in the field?"
"Excuse me sir?" she asked shakily,
"Would you trust an analyst to give you the training you need to handle a bomb disposal situation?"
"No sir. Of course not sir,"
"A hostage situation?"
"No sir,"
"The man who selected you is an analyst for our comm team,"
"Does this mean, we have to go through the exam again sir?" the male Caucasian agent asked. Jack took a step back. Staring at the woman still until he was back in his previous position. Turning his head towards the other agent as he answered,
"No. You're staying here,"
The group relaxed. But only for a millisecond as Jack added,
"For now. That was only one test,"
"There's more sir?" one of the female agents asked,
"Myself and Agent Bauer behind me haven't seen you perform in the field. We have no intention of letting any of you go into the field until we know you're good enough,"
"Good enough, sir?" the African American asked, "Sir, I think we're good enough already,"
"You think so?" Jack whispered. His eyes squinting as he stepped towards the agent.

The girls next to him attempted to shuffle away. As soon as they saw Jack move in. Brought to a stop as Melissa shouted to them,
"No one told you to move!"
They both froze. Standing still on the spot. Taking up their stance as they muttered,
"Yes ma'am,"
"You think you're ready Agent Tucker?" Jack asked. Addressing him by his name now as Tucker straightened his back. Raising his head higher as Jack continued, "Nothing you have seen or done can compare to what you will see and do during your time with us. Let me tell you... You've not seen anything yet,"
"... Is that a threat sir?"
"Consider it a warning,"
Tucker exhaled silently. Nodding his head as Jack growled,
"Got it?"
"Yes sir... Crystal sir,"
Jack eyed him for a moment before taking a step away. Nodding his head slowly as he looked upon the remaining male agent; Adam Lister. Shaved brunette hair. Brown eyes with a square-ish face. Strongly built. Surprised he was still covered by his khaki jumpsuit. Jack took a small step to the left as Melissa moved forward to join him.

The girls quickly checked out Jack before they saw Melissa from the corner of their eyes. Quickly standing to attention as their commanding office came to stand before them. Staring straight ahead as Tucker asked,
"Ma'am?"
"What?" Melissa asked as Jack walked away. Turning his back on the group as Tucker inquired,
"Are you director of field operations here ma'am? Or is it Agent Bauer, ma'am?"
"We're both directors," she answered kindly,
"I don't understand ma'am,"
"Neither do I, ma'am," Adam added, "Can you explain please ma'am?"
"I thought Bill Buchanan was director of the office?" Faye Atkinson added further,
"As well as Karen Hayes," Laura Romano finished,
"It's a new system." Melissa started to explain, "Bill Buchanan and Karen Hayes are directors of the officer. Me and Agent Bauer are directors of field operations. It's sort of like a tag team system,"
The team appeared more at ease now. Nodding their heads in sync as Melissa asked,
"You guys understand me?"
"Yes ma'am!"
Melissa smiled and sighed softly. Looking back over her left shoulder as a squeal erupted from behind them. The teams tensing up again as Jack turned and approached the group once more.

Melissa stayed on the spot she stood on. Turning her head back to the others as Jack moved to stand beside her. Deciding to move things along before Louis could weasel his way out of work and come check out his hard work. The team watching Jack as he began,
"Alright, out in the back of CTU's grounds is a compound that's been built for field agents to train within. That's where the majority of your training will take place,"
"We're not goin there today sir?" Laura dared to ask him,
"Not today. You all need to be processed,"
"Processed sir?" Adam repeated, "Are we prisoners sir?"
"No. But we need to create new records on the field op servers. As well as security and clearance details,"
Adam nodded his head assertively. Continuing to stare at Jack as he continued,
"I will be training and monitoring FOX team. You'll be coming with me to Bill Buchanan's office. And VIXEN team will be trained and monitored by Agent Bauer. You'll follow her to our office in field operations,"
The team nodded but replied verbally now,
"Yes sir,"
Jack nodded. Turning to look at Melissa as she asked aloud,
"Where's Bill?"
"He's in the situation room," Jack answered back quietly. Melissa nodded. Smiling a little before Laura asked,
"Is everythin alright ma'am?"
"Can we help with anythin ma'am?" Faye pushed. Melissa smiled at their generosity they showed. Hoping it was genuine and neither were trying to kiss up to teacher.

The guys rolled their eyes. Shaking their heads. Almost laughing at the two girls before Jack stepped forward and growled,
"Problem?"
They soon tensed up. Standing to attention as they responded,
"No sir!"
"There better not be,"
"Yes sir!"
Jack eyed them up for a second. Turning away as Melissa asked softly,
"We going?"
"I'll take these two over to Buchanan's office,"
"Okay,"
"I'll call as soon as I've finished processin them,"
"Sure,"
Jack nodded. Smiling at her before he returned to his serious, threatening side. Forcing the two agents out of the room as he ordered,
"Get movin,"
"Yes sir!" the FOX team barked. Pivoting to the right and marching away in perfect rhythm. The girls relaxed and watched the three men leave. Waiting for the guys to disappear from sight completely and the door to shut fully before they loosened up.

They sighed heavily. Almost laughing between themselves as Melissa turned away and reached into her pocket. Taking out her phone and flipping it open as she listened to the girls chill out behind her. Faye finally letting out the nervous giggle that had been building up in her throat from the start. Shaking her head as she confessed,
"God, he's scary!"
"No offence ma'am!" Laura quickly excused,
"Yeah! Ma'am, we just..."
"It's alright," Melissa laughed lightly as she continued to check her phone,
"Are you okay ma'am?"
"I'm fine. Don't worry,"
The two rookies nodded slowly. Both curious to know the answer to the question Laura forced herself to ask,
"Ma'am, could I ask you something?"
"Yes,"
"Why are you so... kind and welcoming? And your husband is..."
"Threatening?" Faye finished for her. Melissa smiled again. Relieved to see no new messages. Hoping it was a sign that everything was going perfectly that day. Turning round to her team as the two asked,
"Ma'am?"
"Jack likes to set down some ground rules. He likes to make sure that people know who is in charge,"
"You don't do what he does?" Faye asked, adding quickly, "Ma'am?"
"It's nice, and helpful, to have a mix of the two. Sometimes you need that,"
The two smiled and nodded. Relaxed still as Melissa ordered,
"Come on. Get going,"

Corridor, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Jack was ahead of the team in the corridor as they made their way over to the director's office. Listening in on the two as they muttered and whispered between themselves behind him. Jack shook his head. Smirking as Tucker whispered,
"I don't know about this guy but his wife, I'll have her as my teacher,"
"I bet the girls are sayin the same thing about him right now,"
"You think man? I'm sure that Romano woman was after me,"
"... Yeah... Sure,"
Jack stopped and turned round as the two agents staggered to a stop behind him. Staring at him as they stood to attention. Wondering how far he could push them before they broke. Jack stayed silent. Simply standing still and staring at the two. Waiting to see if either of them would say anything. Ignoring the few people that walked past them. Jack keeping up the frozen gaze on the two agents as they watched the few analysts walk past them. The other agents taking an interest in what was happening in the corridor.

Adam shivered slightly. Clearing his throat as Michael shook his head and sighed. Looking back at Jack as he asked,
"Sir, is there a reason we're stood here like sticks in mud?"
"You tell me," Jack replied, looking at Adam now as he asked, "Think the girls will be gettin treated any differently?"
Adam bit his bottom lip. Looking to his left as Michael answered,
"I do,"
Jack smirked. Staring at Tucker again as he added,
"They don't seem like strong women. Looks like a gun would break their wrists,"
"Don't judge a book by its cover," Adam whispered to him. Looking at Michael again as he asked Adam,
"What?"
"He's right," Jack answered, "And one of them is my wife. Who you don't want to cross. She might appear sweet-"
"But she'll have your balls for your breakfast sir?" Adam interrupted, accidentally. Apologizing quickly, "Sorry for interrupting sir,"
Jack shook his head. Sighing softly before he replied,
"Adam's right..." He paused for a moment. Directing his eyes on Michael as he asked, "Crystal, Tucker?"
Michael nodded and quickly but shortly stood to attention. Nodding his head again before muttering under his breath,
"Yes sir,"
"What was that?" Jack asked, almost taunting him. Getting a short huff from Michael before he answered, loudly,
"... Yes sir,"
Jack nodded slowly. Twisting and stepping aside as he commanded,
"Get movin. Now,"
The two agents nodded. Clipping their heels together before marching away. Stopping themselves from not turning to look back behind them.

Jack shook his head and slowly followed them out into comm. Spotting Morris and Chloe close by. Arguing between themselves again as they took turns in pointing fingers at the screen and each other. His attention distracted from the couple as Tony called out,
"Jack!"
The blonde agent came to a sudden stop. Looking to his left as Tony quickly exited the corridor close by. Walking with him as Jack breathed out gently,
"Hey Tony,"
"Bradson's lookin for Mel. Where is she?"
"Not again," Jack huffed as he quickened his pace suddenly. Shaking his head as Tony picked up the pace and walked with him,
"What's up?"
"Nothing,"
"... Right,"
"Mel's not in the mood for Bradson right now."
"She's been seeing him daily for the past three years,"
"There's her point. And it's Amy's birthday, she doesn't want to make a scene today of all days,"
"This is important,"
"So's Amy's birthday. She doesn't want to ruin anythin,"
"You think she'll ruin today?"
"I never said that. And no I don't."
Tony nodded slowly. Stopping as soon as the two reached the bottom of the stairs that led up to Bill's office. The two tilting their heads back and watching as both Adam and Michael walked into the empty room. Briefly glancing down at Jack before they dashed deeper into the room.

Tony snorted. Placing his hands on his hips as they stared up at the room still. Turing back to each other as he asked,
"Those are the guys for the FOX team?"
"Yeah," Jack sighed,
"Why did you choose them?"
"I didn't. Louis did,"
"Louis? Why don't you have it reversed?"
"Too late now. Just gonna see how this goes. If they're no good, I'll send them home and try again,"
"But the testin took a year to complete."
"Yeah I know." Jack mumbled, taking a step forward. Placing one foot down on the first step before he turned back to Tony. Taking in a quick breath before requesting,
"Delay Bradson will you. I don't want him to stress Mel or anythin. She's already on edge today,"
Tony nodded. Mumbling back to him,
"Sure Jack,"
"Thanks,"
Tony nodded again. Taking a step back as Jack turned away and climbed the stairs to the office. Seeing a quick glimpse of the girls making their way up to field operations.

2 Hours later...

Director's Office, Field Operations, Second Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Faye had been processed and her details saved to the servers in the department. Taking a seat behind the chair in front of the desk. Allowing Laura to take up the seat and go through her details for Melissa to input into the system. The girls looking round the room. Checking out the guys across the floor. Melissa quickly glanced over to her left. Finding Jack on his feet and talking to the two agents in the room they occupied. Looking as though he was laying down more rules and guidelines. Faye shook her head. Sighing heavily before she asked,
"Agent Bauer?"
"Yeah?" Melissa asked in return as she looked back at the monitor. Entering a few details she knew; appearance and name. Looking past Laura and directly at Faye as the agent asked,
"Do we have to keep calling you Agent Bauer? I mean, with Agent Bauer over there with the guys and you with us. What's gonna happen when we work together and we both yell out for you?"
Melissa smiled. Shaking her head as Laura giggled and agreed,
"Oh that will be funny!"
"But it won't happen will it?" Faye asked, putting the mood down a notch,
"No," Melissa laughed, "I don't think it will,"
"So what do you call you by ma'am?"
"You might as well call me Mel."
"Really? But that sounds like a nickname?"
"Well if you guys are staying here with us. Which, I'm guessing you probably will be anyway. You might as well start calling me by that name. Everyone else around here does,"
Laura turned and looked back at Faye. The two smiling still. Feeling more and more at ease as the friendliness of the room grew. Melissa smiled and looked at the two. Shaking her head as the two girls whispered between themselves. Acting like children enrolling in a new school, rather than hardened women working for a federal agency.

Laura looked back at Melissa and sat up straight in her seat as Melissa read out loud,
"You have two sisters?"
"Yes ma'am,"
"... You're the middle sister as well,"
"Yes ma'am, I am,"
Faye snorted and laughed. Quickly apologizing before Laura asked,
"You have sisters as well ma'am?"
Melissa smiled a little. Shaking her head before she whispered,
"Not anymore,"
"Oh... I'm sorry,"
"No. Don't be sorry." she whispered, solemnly, "... They got in the way,"
Faye pushed away from the back of her seat. Leaning forward as Laura took in a quick breath. Staring at Melissa as she found herself frozen. Staring at the screen in some sort of daze. Her eyes flickering left and right. Taking a hard swallow before she whispered,
"They're dead anyway. Been dead for a very long time,"
"I'm sorry ma'am," Laura whispered. Shaking her head as Faye whispered,
"Really sorry ma'am,"
"No. No apologies. It was my fault anyway. So, nothing to worry about,"
"... You weren't close with them?" Faye asked softly,
"Not really. Only time we were close was when we lived together when I was a little girl,"
The two girls smiled and giggled. Shaking their heads as Melissa smiled and looked back at them,
"So you can imagine what the house was like. Think we started enough world wars to bring the world to an end,"
The girls smiled and giggled again. Shaking their heads before Melissa called out above the high pitched giggles,
"Okay, come on. I need to get all of this finished. Then we'll see about the training as soon as I know Jack is finished with the guys over there,"

Director's Office, Second Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Adam fidgeted nervously in the chair he sat in. Sat behind the desk, before Jack. His fingers interlocked. His hands settled on his lap. Shivering occasionally. Fighting to hold it all back as Jack tried to finish off the files on screen. Looking back at Adam. Seeing his eyes wandering uncomfortably around the room. Michael twisting and looking through the wall of the office. Staring down at the comm team below. Jack smirked. Shaking his head as he looked back at the monitor. Asking gently,
"Feelin alright Lister?"
"Yes sir," Adam rushed to answer. Hoping nothing of his nerves would seep through,
"Sure?"
"... No sir," Adam sighed. Knowing he wasn't fooling anybody, "I'm sorry sir. I wasn't expecting any of this,"
"What do you mean?"
"Well... I'm sorry sir. I don't know."
"Relax a little. I'm not gonna kill you,"
"Not yet," Michael added. Snorting gently as Adam attempted a rebound,
"He won't kill you either... Yet,"
"Nice try buddy," Michael breathed in loudly. Turning round to face the two as Jack stopped his typing and watched the two. Shaking his head as the two agents argued between themselves. Adam trying to fight back first,
"Just cause I can't do some of the things you can,"
"Nah man. Just cause it's you,"
"Chill out,"
"You're shakin,"
"You're an asshole,"
"You both can shut up," Jack ended the fight, "You can say whatever you want. But until I see you both respond to threats in the field, you can't do anythin,"
"Then let's go out to that compound! Right now man!" Michael demanded as he jumped up from the couch in the room.

Jack raised his head as his hands slipped away from the keyboard. Pushing himself up to his feet. Seeing Adam quivering slightly as he looked between the two men. Looking between the two as Michael whispered,
"I can show you how good I am,"
"Sit back down Tucker," Jack growled,
"I can do whatever you tell me to do sir! Let me show you! Instead of messin around here all day!"
"Take a seat!"
Michael shook his head. Refusing to back down until Jack warned him,
“Disobey my orders and you’ll be thrown off the team. If you’re so desperate to show you deserve to be on this team, take a seat.”
Michael snorted. Shaking his head before Jack repeated, more aggressively,
“Now!”
Adam glanced back behind him. Looking up at Michael as he nodded his head this time. Backing off as he whispered in defeat,
“Yes sir,”
Jack sighed heavily. Watching as Michael backed away further. Nodding his head as the agent took a seat on the couch at the back of the room. Staring at Jack as the higher ranking agent took a seat. Looking back at the monitor as he spoke out loud,
“Something I noticed about you Tucker. You’re overly confident. And that can get you killed in the field,”
Michael shook his head. Looking away as Jack commented,
“And Lister, you need to start having more confidence in yourself. You’re still here for a reason. So I wouldn’t sit there shakin in your boots. Just carry on as you would normally, and you’ll do just fine,”
Adam nodded. Thanking him for the words as his body eased up and soothed its rattles. Sitting up straight in the chair again as Jack gave them both what they wanted. Deciding to add an event to their schedule that day,
“If we’re finished before the girls over there, I’ll take you guys down to the weapons training room in the basement. See how you guys are and have the girls join us down there as soon as they’re finished,”
Keeping up the rapid tapping of the keyboard as he noticed the smirk grow over Michael’s face as they moved on to finish the processing.

Director’s Office, Field Operations, Second Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

The girls were just a few minutes away from finishing off the details on their files. Sitting together now around the desk. Staring at Melissa as she checked over the details. Smiling as she noticed in Faye‘s background,
“Your parents are both English?”
“Yes ma’am. I was born in England. Raised in America,”
“Where about’s?”
“London ma’am. Moved to Los Angeles when I was seven months old,”
Melissa smiled and nodded. Looking down at the intercom as it buzzed loudly in the room. Waiting for the automatic answer to come over the speaker,
”Agent Bauer?”
She shook her head and reached over for the small device. Pressing down on answer before she answered herself,
“Yes?”
”Agent Bauer, Doctor Bradson is lookin for you,”
“I’m busy right now. Tell him it will have to wait,”
”He says it’s urgent ma’am,”
“I don’t care. Tell him to wait,” She quickly ended. Lifting her finger from the device as Faye and Laura looked between themselves. Exchanging curious looks before turning back to Melissa. Asking a question they had already asked before, Faye speaking softly but loud enough for them to hear,
“Is everythin alright ma’am?”
“It’s a… very, very… long story,” Melissa breathed out heavily. Shaking her head before she realized, “You’re both the middle siblings of three daughters?”
The two smiled and nodded. Waiting for a short period of silence to pass between them both.

Melissa smiled but shook her head. Looking back at Laura as she began to describe a memory to the two of them,
“My little sister was a brat. She always got herself into trouble at school and then I’d be the one who came to her rescue,”
“That sounds familiar,” Melissa commented, staring at Laura still as she added,
“But even when I did that, she was never grateful for it. She just kept on giving me shit to deal with. It’s like, whoa girl! Chill! Take it easy! I just saved yourself from some serious embarrassment!”
Melissa smiled and nodded. Looking back at the screen and working on bringing up extra windows as Laura told her,
“There should be a photo in my family ma’am if you want to look,”
“Oh this should be fun!” Faye giggled, leaning forward as Melissa found the file Laura had told her about. Opening it into a larger window. Recognizing Laura immediately. Stood in a photo Melissa remembered having taken of her, in a similar way, when she was younger. Looking at the two other faces of her sisters. Suddenly feeling light headed. She closed her eyes for a moment. Opening them again as she looked away from the screen. Looking down over the comm team. Hoping the focus on distant objects would help her eyes. Hoping it was her eyes that had caused the light-headedness. Her fingers frozen in a mix of arced and flexed shapes. Staring down at the ground floor as Faye and Laura looked on with more than worry now. Their voices asking worriedly,
“Ma’am?”
“Are you alright?”
Falling silent when there wasn’t any verbal response. Or even a physical response from her. Seeing her brown eyes flickering left and right. Her lips parted by mere millimetres. Her eyes stuck on an object below as an image hit her square on.

Feeling hardened concrete beneath her knees. Looking up to see a tall shadowed figure in her mind. An open doorway between stone walls. Seeing Suzanne stepping inside. That smirk on her face. Lips that moved but no noise was emitted. Hearing a ringing in her ears instead. Watching, who she thought was dead, sister step towards her. Feeling her head lift without her needing to do any movement.

Melissa jerked and shook awake as the door to their office opened. Looking up to see Doctor Bradson step inside. Looking slight annoyed and frustrated that she’d been avoiding him. But now looked terrified and worried with the sudden change in brown eyes he saw before him. Two younger agents sat between the two. Looking as worried and as terrified as he was. Watching as the doctor came rushing round to her side. Crouching down in front of her as Melissa turned in the seat. Holding onto the arm of the chair with her right hand. Taking a hold of the desk with her left hand as she whispered heavily,
“I need some air.”
“What is it? Did you remember something?”
“I need to… get outside,” She panted heavily. Shaking her head as she pulled her hands away from the objects they gripped. Turning to the two agents as she tried to regain herself. Ordering quietly,
“Go and find Agent Bauer. Stay with him until I get there,”
The two nodded and moved without question. Moving as quickly as needed. Leaving the room as Bradson reached for the remote on the desk. Darkening the walls as Faye and Laura tried to look inside. Their worry peaking when they were blinded by the darkness. Almost frantically running away to find Jack and explain what had just happened.

Jack was passing by Chloe's station as he made a quick retreat back to the comm team. Spotting Louis at his station. His sympathy going out to Milo as he watched the group leader become the main target of more of Louis' outrageous demands. Jack shook his head once before his head snapped to his left. Stopping by the station as Chloe hissed at him,
"What's goin on with your office?"
Jack squinted his eyes for a moment. Turning his full body towards Chloe as she quickly looked up at the director's office up on the second floor. Looking back at Jack as he asked her,
"What are you talkin about?"
"The walls have just suddenly gone dark,"
Jack sniffed gently and looked up towards the office he and Melissa shared. Finding the walls to be darkened as Chloe had told him. Seeing two shadows gliding away from the office. His lips parted slightly. Staring at the room still as he answered back,
"I don't know."
"I heard Bradson's been looking for her all morning,"
"Yeah I know he has... Have you seen Mel leave?"
"No but I only noticed the walls changing when I heard you coming back here,"
Jack nodded his head slowly. Turning around to join Michael and Adam down in the corridor he had left. Quickly glancing over at Chloe as he muttered,
"Anythin else happens up there, tell me. Alright?"
"Sure Jack,"
Jack nodded. Breathing out quietly,
"Thanks,"
Before taking his leave. Turning away from Chloe as she looked back up at the room. Shuffling in her seat a little as she eyed the room. Expecting something to happen as she looked back at her monitor.

Adam nervously looked round the corridor as Michael whistled and tapped out a hip hop tune on his thighs. Shaking his head before finding his own beat. Biting his bottom lip as he head banged the tune out. Adam shook his head. Facing his team-mate as he commented, more confidently now,
"Agent Bauer is right about you,"
Michael jerked to a stop. Staring at Adam as he asked,
"You think so man?"
"You're too confident,"
"And that's a problem?"
"Damn straight it is,"
Michael stared at him for a moment. Snorting before breaking out into hysterics. The hip hop tune ending with a harsh slap of his hands against his thighs. Pushing away from the wall and stepping closer to Adam as he slipped his hands into his pockets. Studying his 'weaker' team-mate as he became just millimetres from touching the ends of Adam's boots. The two locking fierce gazes as Adam fought down the nerves that began to peak. Wondering if he was pushing things now that Michael was so close. Wondering if an apology was in order when Jack stepped onto the scene. Marching round the corner with a dominance that intimidated them both. His voice threatening and commanding,
"Back away! Now!"
The two agent swallowed hard together in perfect synchronicity. Taking a step back. Followed by a second step. Michael standing casually as Adam stood to attention and saluted.

Jack shook his head as he slowed his march. Looking up at Michael before lowering his head to look upon Adam. Jack sighed gently. Shaking his head as he ordered gently,
"Stand down Lister."
Adam nodded with a quick jolt of his head. Throwing his hand down to hang by his side. Rolling his eyes at Michael as the other agent tutted and shook his head. Freezing as soon as Jack turned to face him. Easily slipping into the space between the two rookies. Pivoting on his right heel. Glaring at Michael as he asked,
"Got a problem Tucker?"
"No sir,"
"Really?"
"No sir. No problem here sir,"
Jack nodded his head ever so slightly. Glancing back over his right shoulder. Checking on Adam as the other agent shook his head and responded to the silent question,
"No problems here sir as well,"
"Good," Jack answered. Moving faster than Michael anticipated his commanding officer to move. Catching the over confident agent in another teasing phase. Smirking when he saw the change in posture from Michael when he found Jack watching him. Jack folded his arms loosely. Staring at Michael still as he called out quietly,
"Adam,"
"Yes sir?" the agent answered immediately. Keeping his distance as Jack continued,
"The shooting range. You know where it is?"
"... The one inside the compound sir?"
"No. There's one in the basements here in the building,"
"Yes sir. I understand which you're referring to,"
"Go to the stairs that lead down into the basement and wait for us there,"
"Yes sir," Adam answered quickly. Nodding his head before stepping away from the two. Keeping his eyes focused on the pair before he turned to make sure his path was clear. Feeling Michael's eyes on him as he disappeared from their sight.

A comm member quickly rushed forward. Passing the two in the corridor but not without giving her own worrying look at the two. Finding Michael stuck before Jack. Knowing he was heading for trouble, she couldn't stop herself from glancing back behind her. At least three times before she collided with an agent heading her way. Knocking the small pile of CDs out of his hands. Jack stayed motionless. Registering the noise but not taking interest. Watching as Michael became distracted. Turning his head to the right. Watching the pair scramble to their feet and gather the CDs. Recognizing the agents in the corridor. They turned and dashed back towards their places in comm. The tapping of their boots drifting away as Michael faced Jack. Stiffening in his stance as he asked,
"Permission to speak sir?"
"Refused,"
"Sir?"
"If you want to be on this team Tucker, you're gonna have to learn to co-operate."
"I am co-operating sir,"
"And learn to get along with your team,"
"Sir, Lister's an arse kisser,"
"To you he may be,"
"No sir. To everyone sir,"
"How about we go ask my wife? I bet she'll have a different opinion,"
"That's because she's a woman sir,"
Jack blinked quickly. Unfolding his arms as he asked,
"And that means?"
"... I'd rather not say sir," Michael hesitated to respond. Knowing he'd gotten himself into hot water again. Jack shook his head. Closing the distance between them. No matter how short it was. Staring at him still as he growled quietly,
"Next time, you won't be so lucky,"
Michael snorted. Testing Jack's patience and his own luck. Closing his eyes as Jack growled again. Holding back his desire to hit him as he ordered, strictly,
"Get moving!"
Michael opened his eyes and stayed frozen. Pushing it a step forward still until Jack barked,
"Now!"
The sudden boom forcing his body to jerk. A surprised gasp of air taken in as Michael stomped his foot on the floor. Meeting Jack's gaze as he felt his boot graze his. Sliding, almost dancing, away from Jack. Keeping their eyes locked until Michael turned his back on Jack. Hearing him following from behind as Jack traced his steps towards the stairs Adam was located.

Staircase 3G, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Adam stiffened as soon as he heard the two approaching. Turning his head ten degrees to the left. Finding the corridor in front of him that he had just made his way down. Standing straight on his two feet. Monitoring the exit of the corridor. Rolling his eyes as Michael stepped out of the corridor and greeted,
"Arse kisser,"
Adam shook his head. Turning away as Michael added,
"Tiny arse kisser,"
Jack shook his head as he stepped out of the corridor. Coming round quickly to walk between the two agents. Making sure no brawl could explode between the two. Eying each of them before he came round to the locked door. Reaching into his pocket as he cautioned Michael,
"Everythin you say and do while in front of me, will be recorded in field operations servers. So, I suggest if you're serious about being on this team. You start changing your actions. Agent Bauer will be the one who looks over the records. She might look sweet on the outside but she's seen worse than you can imagine. She won't run you guys over lightly."
Michael snorted. Shaking his head as he placed his hands on his hips. Looking away as he mumbled,
"Yeah right,"
Adam looked to his left and watched as Michael shook his head again. Looking back at Adam as he defended his two bosses,
"What the hell is your problem man? What got shoved up your arse this mornin?"
"That a question or an insult?"
"Both,"
"Knock it off," Jack growled, swiping his key card across the small scanner built into the door's lock. Reaching for the door handle as he commented, "You're acting like five year olds. Grow up."
"How about we go down there and shoot caps into your arse?" Michael asked, aiming his question at Adam but Jack couldn't stop his body from responding to the question.

Michael jerked and took a step back. Holding his hands up in surrender. Taking another step back as Jack took a step forward. Staring at him as Michael objected to the looks,
"Hey man, I was talkin to arse kisser!"
"I'm not your man, kid,"
Michael whistled. Shaking his head as his hands dropped to his sides. Smirking and laughing even as Jack asked,
"How about I take you both down to the kindergarten close by and let you play with their water guns?"
Adam gulped. Standing back as Jack warned them both now,
"One more step out of line and you're both off the team and sent back to the office you came from,"
...
"Understood!?" Jack demanded. Looking back at Adam quickly as he responded instantly,
"Yes sir,"
Turning back to Michael as the second agent nodded his head slowly. Muttering,
"Yes sir,"
"Good... Go down into the basement and wait for me there. I'll be down there in a minute,"
The two nodded and responded together,
"Yes sir,"
Before they made their way over to the open door. Carefully slipping into the staircase as Jack turned and watched them leave. Forcing himself to play teacher fully now and standing at the top of the stairs. Making sure neither of them would cause any hassle while he was away. Bully each other further. Not wanting to take any risks as he reached into his pocket for his cell phone. Entering the number that he needed and bringing the phone to his ear,
"Basement,"
"Chopper, it's Jack."
"Hey man!"
"I'm sendin two guys down there. Make sure they don't kill each other,"
"Sure thing. You comin down after them?"
"Yeah. I just need to go see someone first,"
"Do I need to call Bradson?"
"I think he's busy with Mel. I'll be right back,"
"Sure,"
Jack grunted gently as he hung up on the call. Slipping the phone back into his pocket as he made his way back to the comm team.

Director's Office, Field Operations, Second Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

The door to the office had been locked as soon as the two rookie agents had left the room. Bradson turning back to the desk to find Melissa climbing up out of the seat. Holding onto the desk. Still feeling light headed from the shock that coursed through her. Taking in a quick breath before forcing out,
"I need to get outside,"
"No. Sit down," Bradson ordered, racing over to her. Taking a hold of her shoulders and guiding her back to the seat. Leaning over as soon as Melissa was back in the chair. Her hands coming to her face. Covering herself as she leaned over and gasped again. Staying in the position she was in as Bradson crouched down in front of her. Holding onto the desk with his right hand. His left hand hanging by his side for a moment. Hesitant to bring up the subject he was wanting to tell her.

Melissa huffed and pulled back out of the blue. Startling Bradson as he felt a blow of wind hit him in the face as her hands fell from her face. Looking up into teary brown eyes as she tried to wipe away the tears in her eyes. Keeping his silence as Melissa whispered,
"I killed my sisters. But they're still alive... Okay... I would really like to wake up... And I mean it. I'm not... I'm not..."
Bradson shook his head. Watching her crumbling before she whispered heavily, holding back her tears as she asked,
"Are they still alive?"
"No. They're dead," He answered bluntly. Not taking any consideration to the facial expressions that came over her. Melissa smiled with frustration. Shaking her head before hissing,
"Don't you bloody start screwing with me here. They're dead... But not dead... Let me take a look at that file-"
"No,"
"I need to know what happened!" she argued, pushing up from the seat but was forced back down again by Bradson. His hands on her knees. Forcing her down as he argued back to her,
"You look in that file, you'll regret it,"
"... You're not helping," Melissa whispered quietly. Trying to get back up again but found herself pinned down by the doctor's hands. Shaking her head as she twisted her upper half and dug her elbows into the desk. Covering her face with her hands as the movements she had been making began to affect her once more.

Bradson pushed up gently. Leaning over, leaning in closer to her as Melissa groaned gently. Shaking her head as Bradson snatched a hold of the arm on the chair close by. Pulling it round to the side of the desk. Speaking softly to her as he asked,
"What did you see?"
"My dead sister... On her feet. In this doorway,"
"Can you describe the room?"
...
"Did you see any other figures?"
"There was... someone. But I couldn't see their face."
"Any other details?"
"... No,"
Bradson nodded slowly. Clearing his throat gently as he muttered to her,
"I want to take you down to the clinic,"
"No, I'm alright,"
"No you're not."
"I'm just feeling a little light headed. I'll be okay,"
"I want to run some tests on you. See if anything has changed,"
"I haven't lost my mind... Just yet,"
Bradson smirked. Chuckling gently as he shook his head. Watching and waiting for her to move again.

Situation Room, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Bill and Karen were still occupying the situation room when Jack stormed into the room. Almost battering the door open with his hand. Focusing raging eyes on the two agents at the far end of the table in the room. Watching as Karen stayed seated and Bill took off his glasses as he got to his feet. Barely getting an opportunity to speak his name before Jack growled,
"Louis needs to be fired,"
"What's happened now?" Karen sighed "I thought the teams were going fine,"
"Yeah, I've got a pair of five year olds!"
"What's happened?" Bill asked, slipping his glasses into a pocket on his trousers. Jack shook his head. Closing the door behind him as he stepped closer to the table. Taking in a quick breath before he repeated his first line,
"Louis needs to be fired. Right now,"
"He was a field agent," Karen began to argue. Cut off immediately by Jack,
"Was a field agent, Karen. He had no idea what the hell he was doin."
"Then go talk to him,"
Jack blinked. Pulling his head back as he asked,
"You want me to go talk to Louis?"
Bill shook his head. Massaging his forehead with a finger and thumb as he made his way round the right side of the table. Commenting aloud,
"That's not a good idea, Karen,"
Karen sighed and fell back into the seat. Staring at the two men as Bill came to stand by Jack.

Jack shook his head and covered his nose and mouth with his right hand. His left hand holding his waist. Staring down at the table as Bill whispered to him,
"Just do what you can,"
"That's not gonna be easy," Jack responded instantly as his hand fell from his face. Turning to look at Bill as he offered, "Want to come and see these kids for yourself?"
Bill shook his head and sighed gently. Focusing his eyes on Jack as the agent continued,
"They're five year olds. I wanna know what made you both think that Louis could select two teams as important as these two are. I have two kids that are fighting each other."
"... How about Mel? How's it goin with her team?"
"I don't know. I haven't talked to her since we took our teams to be processed,"
"Where is she now?"
"Field operations... I hope,"
Bill blinked quickly. Placing his hands on his hips as he asked,
"You hope?"
"Chloe told me that the walls had been darkened in the office. She hasn't seen Mel come out of the room yet. And I haven't heard anything from any of the three,"
"I'll have security check it out now."
Jack nodded slowly. His head lowering slightly as he muttered, gratefully,
"Thank you,"
"I'll handle Louis. Go back to your team."
Jack nodded again. Taking a step back as Bill turned to use the phone in the room. Glancing back behind him, making sure Jack left the room. Watching him take a quick look up at field operations. Finding the office still in darkness before he turned and left. Making his way back to the staircase down into the basement.

Director's Office, Field Operations, Second Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Bradson's 'pep talk' wasn't pushing any good buttons. Aggravating her further as Melissa growled and got up from the seat. Attempting to get around Bradson until she felt his hand on her arm. Snatching her arm out of his hold as she hissed,
"Bloody get off me!"
"You need to let me check you over,"
"I don't need you to do anything,"
"You had an event. You need to come with me,"
She shook her head quickly. Taking a step back as Bradson moved into a more dominating position. Blocking any path that she could use to get out and away from him. Waiting until Melissa had taken a seat before starting to speak softly,
"Just come with me down to the clinic. Let me run some tests. Have you checked out. Then I will clear you for active duty,"
"Don't even think about doing that,"
"I won't think about it if you come with me."
"Look," Melissa huffed. Lifting her head to look up at Bradson. Meeting his gaze as she continued, "I can't do this today. I'm not going to wreck my daughter's own birthday by having everybody worry about him and what the hell is going on inside my head. I'm not having it,"
"You can't just throw this away! This is important!"
"So is my daughter's birthday! And I'm not going to miss out on this."
Bradson folded his arms. Shaking his head as he watched her turn into her usual self; stubborn and selfless.

Melissa sighed gently. Shaking her head as she wiped her eyes free of the tears she could feel welling up in them. Planting her hands firmly on the arm rests of the chair to help her in getting to her feet. Stepping forward as Bradson became the weaker agent and stepped aside. Watching her walk on towards the door of the office. Coughing a little. Catching Bradson's attention as he spun round and watched her. Noticing the quick shake of her head before she told him,
"If you're not going to tell me what exactly happened. Then how am I suppose to cope with all of this? If you're not going to give me a simple yes or no to a question about my own bloody family, then I might as well just keep going."
"Going out there without the required treatment will make you worse,"
"No, having doctors here that won't help, will make me worse."
Bradson shook his head. Jumping into defend himself as he approached her,
"I'm tryin to help you. But you won't help yourself,"
"That's because I'm busy. When I'm not busy, I'll help myself,"
Bradson shook his head once more. Huffing as Melissa turned to the door. Unlocking it again with her keys before gently pushing on the glass and walking out of the room. Leaving Bradson to create a more convincing plan of attack.

Shooting Range, Basement, CTU - Los Angeles

Both Laura and Faye had made their way to the basement by the time Jack returned. Hearing his footsteps rapidly making their way down the staircase. Chopper, the security guard down in the basement, looked up from his screen and smirked as soon as he saw Jack. Chuckling as the African American cheered,
"Hey!"
"Hey,"
"You got some more men in your posse now man,"
"What do you mean?" Jack asked, slowing his pace as he made his way over to Chopper. The two seperated by a glass pane. Chopper nodded his head towards the sign in sheet on the wall close by. Watching Jack's eyes flicker to the right. Looking down at the two last names on the page before he looked back at Chopper. Asking quietly,
"Mel's with them?"
Chopper shook his head. Snorting before he replied,
"If she's down here, she got in pretty fast,"
"She wouldn't sneak in here if that's what you're sayin,"
"Nah man. I'm sayin she must have forgotten to sign in if she's here down here."
Jack nodded quickly before Chopper continued,
"But I get a good look at the guys come down here. Those stairs are right in my face... And I haven't seen her,"
Jack looked back behind him. Shaking his head before he muttered aloud,
"I'll call her."
Before he glanced back at the stairs. Turning back to join the group down the corridor. Thanking Chopper quickly before he walked quickly down past the security booth.

The girls were standing back as the guys took over the guns. Covering their ears as the guys taunted each other. Pushing to make the more dangerous shots. Laughing and hissing between themselves before Faye spotted Jack coming their way. She pulled her hands away from her ears and slapped both of the guys on their shoulders. Jumping back as they dropped the guns and spun round. Focusing their eyes on the one that hit them both before Jack yelled out,
"Back off!"
The girls jumped and took three steps back. Grunting as they felt their backs hit the wall behind them. Looking down towards Jack as the men turned and faced the targets they had been tearing apart. Frozen on their feet as Jack ordered,
"Don't pick up those guns until I tell you too,"
Staring at the two rookies as he waited for the two to respond in unison,
"Yes sir!"
Jack nodded. Studying the two. Expecting Michael to at least make a cocky move and take up a gun. Fire off a round just to see how much luck he had left. But silence filled his ears and the surroundings. Wondering if Michael was either playing him or finally at an understanding about who was in charge. He twisted away from the two and faced the two new members of his posse. Turning slightly softer as he asked,
"Where's Agent Bauer?"
"She was in the office sir," Faye answered. Leaving Laura to shake in her boots,
"Why isn't she here with you?"
"A doctor came into the room sir. He said he needed to talk to her about something, sir,"
Jack shook his head. Quickly thanking her for the information before spinning round and racing down towards the bottom of the corridor.

Chopper glanced up at the glass in front of him. Hearing the tapping start up again and reach his booth. Smirking as soon as he saw Jack. Leaning back behind him as Jack breathed out quickly,
"Hand us your phone Chopper,"
"Forgot yours?" he asked, getting a hold of the phone and pulling himself forward towards the window,
"The signal down here is terrible,"
Chopper snorted and smirked. Shaking his head as he slipped the portable phone through the space between the glass and the desk. Folding his arms as he slouched in his seat. Watching as Jack entered the extension code for their office. Bringing the phone to his ear as Chopper suggested,
"How about her cell?"
"I don't know where Mel is," Jack answered, listening to the continuous ringing down the phone. Seeing the look of confusion that came over Chopper’s face. Responding to the answer with a slight twitch. Watching as Jack realized what he’d said. Shaking his head before he muttered,
“Never mind. There’s no answer in the office,”
Bringing the phone away from his ear and hanging up on the call as footsteps thundered from behind.

Jack placed the phone down on the small plate beneath the glass. Sliding the phone through the gap as he turned to the new visitor. His anger exploding inside him as soon as he laid eyes on Louis. Almost growling as he demanded,
“What the hell are you doin down here!?”
“Came down to tell you about your girl,” Louis started. Seeing the anger fade from Jack’s face. Now filling with worry and frustration as Louis toyed, “But if you’re gonna take that tone-”
“Where is she?”
“Last I saw her… The clinic,”
“With Bradson?”
“No. By herself… Didn’t look too good either,”
“What are you talkin about?”
Louis shrugged his shoulders. Carefully stepping towards the corridor next to the security booth. Coaxing Chopper out of his seat. Jack quickly side stepping to his right. Lashing out with his right hand. Getting a hold of Louis’ shirt. Yanking him closer to his face as Jack growled,
“What was Mel doin at the clinic?”
Louis smirked. Lightly placing his hands on Jack’s wrist as he whispered,
“Go find out for yourself. What am I? Your slave?”
Jack growled and shoved him away. Looking to his right to see the two teams leaning over and spying on the scene at the opposite end of the corridor. Shuffling to disappear as soon as they noticed Jack staring at them. Hiding away completely as soon as Chopper stepped out of his booth.

Louis gulped and stepped away. Not wanting to get tackled by the six foot nine security officer. Glancing quickly at Jack before he turned and bolted. Leaping up the staircase, four steps at a time. Hearing the occasional stumble as he tried to get away from the two down below. Jack shook his head. Running his right hand over his forehead. Shaking his head again before Chopper offered,
“Can drag his arse back down here for ya?”
“No. Leave him. He’ll just cause more trouble anyway,”
“What about Mel?”
Jack sighed. Shaking his head as he looked back down at the team. Seeing a few pieces of their shadows on the wall. Hearing whispers and small cries of negativity before Jack shouted to them,
“Stop acting like three year olds! Come out!”
Chopper turned and looked down the corridor. Chuckling in pure amusement as the group timidly shuffled out from hiding. Turning to look down on Jack as he muttered,
“Kindergarten duties today?”
“Louis picked them for the teams.”
“Who let him do that?”
“Buchanan,”
Chopper snorted before commenting,
“Feel sorry for ya man,”
“Yeah,”
“Why don’t ya get back to da kids and call the clinic?”
“Yeah, thanks,”
Chopper nodded. Quickly patting Jack’s left elbow. Putting more power behind it than planned. Watching as Jack almost fell forward. Stumbling three steps before recovered and walked on.

He was only half way down the corridor when Melissa’s voice came from the staircase,
“What the bloody hell was he doing down here?”
Chopper turned and walked away. Hearing a small squeal as Jack skidded to a halt and spun round. Almost sprinting as he made his way back to the bottom of the stairs. Finding Melissa making her way down the last six steps. Her left hand pressing gently against the wall. Brushing down it as she asked,
“Is Louis back on this or something?”
Jack smiled with relieved and sighed lightly. Shaking his head as he answered quickly,
“No. He’s not,”
Melissa nodded. Taking a hard swallow before she stepped out into the lighter space of the basement. Noticing the sudden change in Jack’s posture and the emotion that came across his face. Figuring the change in her mental state was more than obvious. Remembering the worried faces she had passed on her way over to the basement. She shook her head. Closing her eyes as she covered her face with her hands. Resting her back against the wall as Jack stepped closer to her. Taking a soft hold of her hands with his. Peeling them away from her face. Ducking a little, fighting to catch a glimpse of her eyes as he whispered,
“What’s wrong?”
She bit her bottom lip for a moment before releasing the pressure she placed on it. Shaking her head quickly now as the phone in Chopper’s booth rang out. Shaking her head almost frantically as she whispered back,
“Nothing,”
“Somethin’s happened,”
“I… I can’t tell you here,”
“Why not?”
Melissa turned her head away. Turning it in the opposite direction. Focusing her eyes on the blank wall on her left. Training her eyes on nothing as Jack questioned with a soft breath,
“You remembered something?”
“Hey!” Chopper shouted suddenly from his booth. Knocking on the glass with a powerful left fist.

The couple jerked and twisted to face Chopper. Watching him as he dropped the phone onto the desk. Nodding his head towards Melissa as he explained to them both,
“That was Bradson. Wants to see you up in the clinic,”
Melissa shook her head. Almost laughing as she replied,
“No. I’m not going up there. He can get lost,”
“He said he knew you would say that.”
“And?”
“I have to take you up there myself.”
Melissa rolled her eyes as Jack twisted round fully. Asking him,
“Why can’t he come get her herself?”
“You kididn me?” Chopper laughed, “Bradson? That pipsqueak tryin to bring down her? You kiddin me!”
“I’m not going up there. He can get lost,” Melissa huffed. Trying to get passed Jack but was brought to a complete halt as Jack reached for her. Getting a hold of her arms as he whispered,
“Hey wait,”
She sighed heavily. Turning back to Jack as she whispered,
“I’m not going to see him,”
“Tell me what happened. What did you see?”
“I-”
“C’mon,” Chopper interrupted as he appeared outside of his booth. His right hand on his handgun as he cautioned, “I don’t really wanna use this,”
“Chopper, stand down. Mel isn’t a threat to you,”
“If she’s gonna make it hard, it’s a threat,”
“It’s called stubbornness, get with it,” Melissa snapped, “Just bloody leave me alone!”
“Easy!” Jack cried out above her outburst. Softening his voice in an attempt to calm her, “Take it easy,”
Caressing her arms with his thumbs as she hung her head. Closing her eyes as she felt Jack lean in and kiss her hair softly. Closing his own eyes as he laid his head against hers. Waiting for her to make the first move. Pushed forward by a beeping from the top of the staircase. Hearing the judder of a door being pulled open as Chopper took a step away from the two.

Hearing the footsteps on the staircase, the two opened their eyes and raised their heads. Looking towards the new visitors down in the basement. Finding two security officers stepping out into the basement. Finding their ‘suspect’ directly in front of them. Melissa shook her head. Pushing herself away from the wall as she submitted quietly,
“Fine… I’m coming,”
Chopper folded his arms and watched as she stepped away. Stepping towards the guards. Pulled back slightly as Jack slid his left hand down her arm. Bringing his hand to hers and holding on tight as he whispered,
“Hey,”
Waiting for her to turn to him before asking,
“Want me to come with you?”
“No, thanks. I’ll be alright. I’ll be back here as soon I can,”
Jack nodded slowly. Feeling her fingers slipped away from his as the guards instructed,
“Careful now,”
“She isn’t a threat,” Jack growled to the two, “Treat her with respect.”
“I’m sorry sir but we have orders,”
“I don’t think you should mess with em Jack,” Chopper advised as Melissa began to climb the stairs. Filled with guilt, with having to leave Jack to handle it all again. Looking back behind her to find one of the two guards on the step behind her. His right hand hovering above his handgun. Staring at her as she turned away and continued climbing up the stairs. Hearing the second guard start to follow them as soon as she reached the door.

Jack stared at the entrance to the staircase as he listened to the steady patter of footsteps. Waiting for the slam of the door to sound before he heard the two teams come racing down the corridor. The girls in the lead as Laura asked worriedly,
“Where are they takin Agent Bauer, sir?”
“Is Agent Bauer in trouble sir?” Faye added. Leaving the guys in silence. Staring at Jack intently as he shook his head and muttered,
“No. She’s being taken to the clinic,”
“Is she alright sir?” Adam asked, “She’s not sick or anythin?”
“… I don’t know. We’ll have to wait til we hear somethin from her or the doc,”
The teams nodded. Not arguing for once. Making more than just Chopper smile. Finding the kindergarten kids had grown up during the few hectic minutes that had just passed. Jack looking between them all. Smiling a little before he reassured them,
“She’ll be fine. Get back to your positions. I need to check you guys out,”
They nodded and quickly moved to return to their positions. Leaving Jack alone with Chopper. Taking a step forward himself. Leaning closer to the guard as he asked,
“Tell me when Mel gets back down here, will you?”
“Sure man.”
Jack nodded and thanked him quietly. Taking a step away as Chopper patted his shoulder again. Staring at the stairs himself as Jack walked away. The two teams already started as he made his way towards them.

Clinic, Ground Floor, CTU - Los Angeles

Bradson had his team ready for when she arrived. Hearing her arrival as the guard got a hold of her arm. Hearing the hiss before snarling at him,
“Get your hands off me!”
Bradson sighed and stood up. Taking off his glasses as he told her, almost taunting her,
“If you had just done as I’d said, this wouldn’t have been necessary,”
“I’m not doing any of this. You can just…” Melissa reacted to the words and tone in his voice, “Today is important! For more than one reason! I can’t mess around with this right now!”
“So when would you like to mess around with it?”
Melissa huffed angrily and looked away. Folding her arms as Bradson dismissed the two guards. Closing the door behind them as Bradson came to stand in front of her. About to reach for her when his hands were swatted away by hers. Her head snapping forward as she warned,
“Don’t touch me!”
“Have you remember something else?”
“No,”
“Really?”
“Think I had, I’d be as mad as I am right now?”
“Possibly.”
Melissa blinked and twitched. Confused slightly before Bradson spilled,
“With a memory I’m predicting you’ll remember, you might be reacting the same way you just did to me then.”
“… Why don’t you just come out with all details? Why not show me that file?”
“And allow your mind to overload?”
“It’s going to overload anyway if you keep pushing me like this!”
“You need to calm down before I have you sedated,”
“You think I’m that far gone that I need to be sedated?” Melissa asked, feeling slightly threatened as she moved to take a step back. Forced to stop as Bradson pleaded kindly,
“Please don’t take another step away. I don’t want to call for security again,”
A short exhale escaped her as she shivered a little. Not really wanting to hear what was coming next when she caught sight of Bradson’s team making their way into the room.

Her brown eyes moved away from his team and back onto Bradson. Starting to feel herself cracking on the inside. Feeling no more desire to back away and run away from it. Surrendering to the softer voice Bradson spoke to her with now as he described,
“All I would like to do is some scans and blood tests. Then you’re free to leave the clinic and continue,”
“Why do I have a feeling that that won’t be all you’re wanting?”
“Well… I would like to know more about the image that you saw,”
“I told you what I saw. I’d rather not bring it up again.”
“You have to,”
“Why? So you can hopefully trigger off more memories?”
“That’s always a possibility,”

“What do you say?”
“… Alright.”
Bradson smiled, more with relief than happiness. Turning on his left heel til he stood on his side. Watching Melissa walk away and follow a nurse into the back rooms of the clinic. Following her into the rooms as the second doctor stepped in to take over any emergencies to come in.
