OMG, NOT YOU DIDN'T.

Read this article. Yeah, the guy its a bit up himslef because he's the founder of Creation who Oasis are signed on but what he says is true non the less.

The music world does need Oasis. They're the last of a dying breed. A breed of 'proper' rock and roll stars. You don't get 'em like this anymore. You get all the 'bedwetters' as that article so rightly put it. Oasis are my favorite living band and I am highly looking forward to 'Dig Out Your Soul' on monday. The single 'The Shock of the Lightning' they just released is beyond amazing. The best song since Icky Thump at the beginning of 2007 - and I hope the rest of the album follows suit.

The idea of not thinking Cigarettes and Alcohol or Morning Glory is a fucking Godly song is perplexing in my mind.

They have attitude yes, Noel said in a interview with Q mag recently [when asked about winning Brit Award] (October issue - you should get it - 50 page Oasis special): "I don't give a fuck what some spotty, divvy little indie bands think about me. My peers are fucking Bono and Chris Martin (strange choice with Chris there but he is his friend) and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. I don't give a fuck about what some cocksucker from The Wombats thinks of Oasis, or anyone from the Last Shadow Puppets, y'know? I'm not arsed about any of them. They're so beneath me it's unbelieveable". While Liam said [about Spongebob]: "He's a fucking mental, full of beans, enthusiastic sponge that lives at the bottom of the sea at Binkini Bottom. He's mad for it. He's got a mate called Squidward, who plays the clarinet and is a grumpy cunt like our kid." And the whole interview was like that - total madness.

Yes, they have attitude. Yes, they're controversial. Yes, some of the things they do/say are wrong. But thats what being a 'proper' rock and roll star is all about. And by God do they know how to make a fucking awesome song.

I tip my hat to you Oasis. I could go on forever about them. Amazing.

Quote:

"Nirvana had this song called 'I Hate Myself And I Want To Die', and I thought 'II'm not fucking having that. He's got everything i fucking want. He's in the most fucking critically acclaimed band in the world, hes got millions of dollars. Couteney Love, well he can have her, but he's got everything i want and he wants to fucking die? Fuck that, fuck the song and fuck him. You and me mate? We're gonna live forever!"

EDIT: Wait, I didn't even talk about the topic at hand, "Are Oasis overrated?" No. The Shock of Lightning is getting beat by Pink. Fucking Pink. Have you seent he state of her recent? Says it all. I don't know one other person in my College that likes Oasis. I'm in the minority. Its all Chemical Romance and Lost Prophets and all that shit with people my age. Oasis are underrated, severely.

To fuck are Oasis underatted. They are one of the highest selling bands of all time. Everybody fucking bums them off.

I acknowledge Oasis are a good band, but that article by whoever that cunt was is the prime reason I made this topic. Oasis have one mode, stadium anthems - which yeah, can be pretty special but also very fucking bland when done over and over again.

And don't even get me started on Noel Gallagher. I hate the twats that idolise him, it's the same type of people who idolise Jeremy Clarkson. They are both bellends that don't know when to shut up.

Underrated was a bit to far maybe but if I rate them as the best living band and they are obviously not rated as the best living band, does that not then make them overrated in my eyes? Meh. Anyway, I think the times have changed considerably. 14 years ago, Oasis were the bollocks. Heck even 5 years ago they were still rated very highly. However, the whole music revolution of the past 5 years have put Oasis back a lot. Lets look at this forum. Who likes Oasis here. Me and...err...erm...Alex likes them...a bit... How many people on this forum like Slipknot? Or Metallica? Shit loads. Who likes Oasis at my College? Me and err...erm... What about the general public on the internet? Just browse over to youtube for a few minutes and take a look for yourself "OASIS SUCK, DAD ROCK, DAD ROCK!!!!" I despise all the people who waste their time commenting on youtube. I have no idea what has happened to the huge fanbase Oasis had. Its seems the only people who like Oasis now are the people who actually know a thing or two about music such as Newspapers, Music Magazines, Music Awards and musicians themselves. Dizzee Rascal, Metallica, U2, Paul Weller...I could go on, they all fucking love Oasis. If Oasis is a band thats being branded overrated, then we may as well brand 99% of bands out there because there are shit loads of band that are overrated far more than Oasis without getting called overrated.

Anyone stupid enough to idolise Noel Gallagher was a moron to begin with. Who in their right mind would idolise Noel? I mean, he can be funny with what he says, he's a master at song writing (which it is OK for people to idolise him for but unfortunatly, that seems to go unnoticed) but he's one fucked up guy. Take Pete Doherty for example. I often here in interviews with him "What do you think about the kids who idolise you?" I mean, what the fuck? I love Pete for his awesome work but what idiot would idolise Pete Doherty? Let alone a kid. Most kids have probably never heard of the Libertines or Babyshambles so I call bullshit on that one. If there's someone out there who has turned into a druggie because they idolised Pete, they were fucked up to begin with for idolising Pete.

Oh and as for the article, yes, that guy is a tit. He's just doing a bit of free advertising though so don't get too worked up about him.

Personally i think they're a little overrated, but not as much as people are saying. I don't really like their new turn in music, i preferred the old stuff. I don't like the new pop-rock type (not all songs, but a lot of them).
But they certainly were the bollocks. Are they still? Not for me.

You make good points Roy. This is why I like stroking your hair gently at night.

But every bloke I knows think Oasis are amazing. Which led to make this topic, I didn't think about that the general demographic on MGSF doesen't really know about them.

I haven't even heard anything from Oasis in last 2 years.

Are they over-rated then? Who cares?

I think the band is ok (or thought it was ok 5-10 years ago), but as I said, I don't have any clue about what they've been doing since then.

Oasis is a band you have to respect..but i never considered myself a fan of the band. I do consider them overrated because everytime i hear about them somebody is always preaching like they are god.. same with Nirvana. Both are bands i never cared for.

But i do respect what they did for music.

You keep spelling overrated wrong, it's slightly annoying.

Anyway, I agree. When they first came out, they were quite good. But now they are just boring. Even at the time, they weren't exactly original. They are also the biggest two moronic bigots the planet has ever had the scourge of creating. They have on many occasions said they are great and everyone else is shit, they take the piss out of better bands. Case in hand, Nirvarna. He attacked Kurt Cobain. He had bipolar, a heroin addiction, and excrutiating stomach pains. Liam and Noel had an average life (with the exception of an abusive father, but that is nothing compared to Kurt Cobains life.) Another hilarious statmet that Liam said was "Americans want grungy people, stabbing themselves in the head on stage'' Riiight. He also said that 'they (Americans) don't like smart people like us'. Yeah, if he is smart, my IQ is 30000000000000000000000000000. A more recent statment: Noel has previously said games desensitise kids from crime: "People say it's through violent video games and I guess that's got something to do with it. If kids are sitting up all night smoking super skunk and they become so desensitised to crime because they're playing these video games, it's really, really scary."

He also said Guitar hero was better than WoW and Onimusha style games by stating :"I'd rather that genre of videogames than somebody getting their f***ing head chopped off with a samurai sword while getting f****d by a goblin up the arse with a laser. Do you know what I mean?"

My opinion, they are the most shitty, sub par, sub intelligent bands in history.

Also, they have terrible haircuts.

I kinda liked them in '90s, I like Noel because he says what he's really thinking, but as far as British bands go, The Stone Roses and The Libertines are ten times better than Oasis, so yeah, I'd agree, overrated.

And yeah, their haircuts are just disgraceful.

Yes, that's a spring roll.

I like them, but they're just a standard rock band to me, not really doing anything special. I think the statement 'the music world needs them' is stupid, what does that entail? If they were to break up or if they never existed then music would just stop?

They are probably overrated, but I don't really know how popular they are on an international scale, here in Australia they're just 'the guys who play Wonderwall'.

You trying to correct everyone's grammar is getting pretty annoying as well. Seriously, no one really cares. While we're talking about that, you spelt Nirvana wrong. It's not Nirvarna ^_^

_________________________________________________________________________________________

I agree with them being overrated. I don't know that much about them, just a few songs really. Most known being Wonderwall, of course. It's pretty much like Lloyd said, for me they're just the guys who played that song. I mean, the dude that wrote the article compared them to The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. That's fucking crazy. Oasis can't match up to those two legends, in my opinion. They're a alright band, I suppose. Nothing special though.

Also kkarbo pretty much summed up my views about them.

here in Australia they're just 'the guys who play Wonderwall'.
And to many British people that's all they are, they're a great band, but if their first two records - or more specifically the singles from their first two records - had never existed, I imagine they would not be nearly as highly rated. They're from Manchester too, so people automatically think they're amazing.

Edit: I think the answer to the topic title is, Oasis were underrated, in 1995, I remember them getting good reviews, and I remember seeing them in London and they put on a fucking awesome show, but people didn't really appreciate them as much as they should've, however now, it's 2008, they are extremely overrated, Oasis have had their chance at a comeback, and they blew it with two shit records, time for the Gallaghers to step aside and host a talk show or something.

Liam's take on Wonderwall:

liam

[When told Dig Out Your Soul is a dark album] It's a dark album with some dark lyrics. But at least there's no Wonderwall on there. I can't fucking stand that song. Every time I have to sing it I want to gag. The new songs are at least saying something a bit different. Problem is, Wonderwall was a big, big tune for us and so you go to America and they're like "Are you Mr Wonderwall?", and you just want to chin someone

I have to concur with him though...Wonderwall is like, their worst song. Its a shame that thats the only song most people know - which indicates most people truley haven't got the slightest clue about Oasis.

God

I don't really know how popular they are on an international scale

As suggested by Austrailia's opinion and the above quote (with reference to America), Oasis isn't really that popular on an international scale, its more of a British thing.

OJ

Oasis have had their chance at a comeback, and they blew it with two shit records

I slightly agree with the latter part but disagree with the first. For a start it wasn't exactly a comeback. They never stopped. They have continued making albums since their formation so it can hardly be called a comeback. I think the reason for most people not liking Oasis as much these days is the quality of their last album. That was back in 2005 and the album before that was in 2002 (which was an awesome album). Thats why not as many people like them, the number of years between albums + their last album means it was 6 years since they released an awesome album. And with the music revolution of the past 5 years, thats fucked them right up. I don't undertsand it when people say "I used to like them 10 years ago but no anymore" as if their albums have suddenly changed. Supersonic sounds exactly the same now as it did all those years ago. Everyone still loves The Beatles even though they're from the 60s, why can't it be the same with Oasis? Also, I LOL at people who get wound up by Noel.
