ok dont hate me but yea. i actually like gangsta rap. not that i try to live that life stylr or look the least bit like a "wigger", i just enjoy it,, among other genras

but anyway, i feel like this market has been really dry through this last decade. yea, we still have rap but it seems really lame. just club music with catchy hooks trying to sell records. believe it or not whenim in the car i dont listen to any hip hop stations at all because i cant tolerate it. but you could throw on some old dre, eazy and cube and id be happy :)

anyone other rap fans think its just been lame as hell in recent memory?

oh and btw, lil wayne sucks IMO, i think will smith has better hip hop songs out

and btw, im not at all intrested in hearing from you people who dont like rap at all and will just have negativity to add to this

Justify my thug.

Well yeah 90's gangsta rap was awesome, not just westcoast either. You gotta think about the heat Mobb Deep was dropping aswell, Big Pun etc.

This should probably be in my classic hip hop discussion thread though.

ya, but when you say "classic rap" i start thinking or guys run dmc and all that "clean" rap before people like NWA got on the scene

Old school has no cursewords in the lyrics, atleast not the music from the mid-80's to the late 80's, then gangstarap came, NWA, 2pac, Biggie etc.

But still, we have already a thread about rap, but nice to hear there's one more member who likes rap ;)

BTW: Who's your favorite rapper?

i guess id have to go with Dr Dre. it seems like everything he's been a part of, in or produced has been rap gold. i guess hes not exactly a rapper, more of a producer, but he's definatly my favorite figure in the hip hop world

I don't think he's put anything good out since Death Row, but I can see why fans of mainstream hip hop would like him, he has been pivotal to the success of plenty of other artists.

Didn't his son kill himself recently?

In my opinion, i have to say i dont lie rap, but im sure as hell, rap was better in the old days rather than some of the rap now. E.G 50 cent.

^That's why Nas wrote his song ''Hip-hop is dead''.

He's true. Real hip-hop/rap is dead, he's prpbably the only one, and perhaps Jay-Z, who does real rap these days.

There's still a ton of real hip hop artists, how about Rakim, KRS One, Mos Def, The Pharcyde, Gang Starr, JMT, Immortal Technique, I'd even consider Wu Tang to still be doing real hip hop, certainly more so than Jay Z.

what is this 2003

50 cent has been a punchline even to the mainstream for a while now. also i don't know what the term "real rap" is supposed to mean, anybody who knows anything about hip-hop knows that lyrically the very foundation of the genre is about getting money and spending it frivolously

What? I am not a huge fan of rap, but even I know that Jay Z is a shitty rapper. I remind you of 'numb'.
Favourite person of the week: NinjaGirl
Reason: Quite obvious, really.

Feck off!

I'm normally not a fan of rap of any kind but I must confess that I enjoy NWA rather a lot, I guess it's one of my guilty pleasures.

Anyways anyone these guys are good. There an unknown rap group I met when I visited New York City during the summer. I talked to them for about 10 min and they gave me a free demo CD. I thought they were pretty good anyone else?

Ice-T is like a legend when it comes to gangsta rap... He was also the one who started talking about guns, and using "bad language" in rap. And he's one of my favorites ^^
