@g-fox Pretty rude of you, this forum is to discuss anything to with MGS and express our opinions, this is a pretty interesting topic.

I don't think Snake does, perhaps out of bitterness to himself and how he was created. He dosn't believe in the supernatural, that much can be said. Just from his character, I doubt he is religous in any way.

Hallelujah! Ah... nope.

Mostly because he never mentioned Him in any of the games, he is an ideologist and mostly uses "lines" to explain what's happening in life and he doesn't seem the type to believe in God. The Patriots seemed something like Him... controlling, manipulating and monitoring everything. If you're born in a world like that and your purpose is to erase this "God" why bothering believing in a real one in the first place? He's gone through a lot in his life and I don't believe God is the one that he relies or believes on.

Even if he does (possibility 1/1.000.000.000) I don't think their "connection" is too strong.

I'm thinking if he did believe in god Snake would most likely think he (God) has a sick sense of humor when it came to his life.

Well I think Snake after MGS4 probably believe in the supernatural to a certain extent since Psycho Mantis came back and remember that thing with Raven talking and his body wasnt even there anymore. But as far as religion I can bet my life he does not believe in anything.

^^Well he certainly dosn't in MGS2, which is after MGS1. Snake believing in God would defeat his purpose, I doubt anyone going through what he went through would have faith in God.

Yeah I remember him saying that. But I also think that Big Boss believes in the supernatural a little because of what happened to him involving The Sorrow. And remember after The Boss died and all the flowers turned red.

I certainly would have lost faith if I were him.
After going through things like that I would doubt there were somebody looking after me.

Søren Aabye Kierkegaard (pronounced [ˈsœːɐn ˈkʰiɐ̯kəˌɡ̊ɒˀ], but usually Anglicized as [ˈkɪəkəgɑːd, ˈkɪɚkəgɑɹd]; Listen (help·info)) (5 May 1813 – 11 November 1855) was a prolific 19th century Danish philosopher and theologian. Kierkegaard strongly criticized both the Hegelianism of his time, and what he saw as the empty formalities of the Danish church. Much of his work deals with religious themes such as faith in God, the institution of the Christian Church, Christian ethics and theology, and the emotions and feelings of individuals when faced with life choices. His early work was written under various pseudonyms who present their own distinctive viewpoints in a complex dialogue.

Kierkegaard left the task of discovering the meaning of his works to the reader, because "the task must be made difficult, for only the difficult inspires the noble-hearted".[4] Scholars have interpreted Kierkegaard variously as an existentialist, neo-orthodoxist, postmodernist, humanist, and as an individualist. Crossing the boundaries of philosophy, theology, psychology, and literature, he is an influential figure in contemporary thought.[5][6][7]

No. You.

Kierkegaard is one of my favorites to read theology and philosophy from.

The quote — "the earth was blue, but there was no God" — has been taken out of context, I believe. I don't think it was meant to signify Big Boss' personal beliefs, but what people saw when they went to space. Some essentially expected to see God with the heating up space race amidst the Cold War. He was actually quoting somebody else when he said that, if I recall the captions correctly. I don't know where the phrase originated from, if that is the case, but I surmise it relates to the expectations of some and the reaction. Obviously, that comes from Snake Eater

Snake referenced God "having a sick sense of humor" when discussing Otacon's family history of affiliation with weapons of mass destruction and his [Otacon's] corresponding birth date. He referenced the concept of sin, saying that it's "easy to forget what one is on the battlefield". The aforementioned was in Metal Gear Solid. In Sons of Liberty, Snake admonished Raiden to believe in something for himself and to have ideals. I recall footage of a church being used at the end, which was used to reiterate Snake's admonishment to Raiden as Raiden perceived them and acted on them. I'm not implying that Raiden "got religion" or any such thing, mind you, I see it as much more general than that.

Naomi references "ravens being God's creatures" if you kill them in Metal Gear Solid. She references the idea of sin and generations needing to work towards atoning for them in Guns of the Patriots.

I think things were left deliberately vague in order to not alienate players who do or do not believe in God. My take on it is that none of the characters necessarily believe or do not, as that is not really a defined and focal aspect, but the experience of the game is what you make of it. Kojima is all about video games being a rich, interactive medium and I'm sure he wants people of all walks to be able to enjoy his work. I can see how people of faith, atheists or agnostics could all get something out of the MGS series.
