Let's face it. There's a huge bunch of people that say that MGS1 is the Daddy that was never surpassed. Others say that MGS2 had such a twisty plot that it just decks out the competition. In other peoples opinion the story & gameplay in MGS3 was what the MGS legend is all about and most recently that the MGS4's epicness has to be it. But what about the darker side of MGS? For me - the biggest disapointment in the series was MGS3. Certainly, the gameplay was multiple times more fluent than in MGS2 and then refined even further in MGS4, but what ticks me about this episode was the simplicity of the plot that was taken straight out of a James Bond film. Well, suppose that's not the whole deal really, this would have been fine, if the story wouldn't have been spoiled by the mere official trailers. There really wasn't much left for the player to find out after watching the trailers. In MGS2 this wouldn't have been even possible. You could have shown any portion of the game in the trailer, from any point in the game and it still wouldn't have made ANY sense AT ALL for the viewers and wouldn't have spoiled a thing, since nobody would have known what the hell was going on. Hell, most people didn't know what was going on even after playing the damn game. Granted, the plot in MGS1 is propably even simpler than in MGS3, however it was not spoiled and you can dig so deep that you can find out what was happening in the background as well and that was some really sneaky stuff. Not even MGS2 pulled that off later on, although the main plot was indeed more complicated. Regards, Caldera |

The only thing i can think of is MGS2 Even though i have learnt to love it, the gameplay seemed shocking, Likerooky said, freezing the bombs ticked me off, shooting the bombs on the other side of the bridge, finding aimes, other things like that, i didnt really enjoy playing MGS2, maybe this what steered me off from liking the story, but something did. Now that i think about it, MGSPO also, they should have sticked to console games. fullstop. |

I'll make a list, it seems fun MGS2: -Rose... -Raiden, slightly annoying. but he did make me love Snake even more, so... -Ocelots hand. kinda stupid? -Solidus octopus arms -Emma, really annoying but I guess it was a good thing to have her there anyway. MGS3: -all Bond references -EVA (please die?) -all the supernatural stuff (Pains bullet bees, Furys fire ghost, Volgins electric powers etc. it was cool, but too much.) Spoiler: click to toggle thats all I can think of for now =P and no I cant find anything bad about MGS1. probably because it was my first MG game, had I played MG2 before it I had probably thought it reminded way too much of the previous title =) EDIT: MGS4 spoilers, sorry about that! In relation to that, They shouldnt make the bike chases so tedious on TBE and the last boss is way too hard on TBE. |

Well... I agree about MGS3's plot, although I can't help but feel that is what they wanted to bring across. The whole, spy scene; it's something they hadn't touched upon, though it was a bit too much of a rip. Spoiler: click to toggle But my biggest disappointment is Big Boss; I've said this in other topics (I'm like a broken record with Big Boss) but he is such a huge character, he does not get nearly enough air time. There is so much more a game, or cutscene, could explore; and they didn't. Without metal gear database, you miss out on a brilliant character's more gritty side. |

you mean MGS4? yeah, the bike chase was almost impossible, had to do it like a hundred times and when I finally did it I had like no life left. x) what last boss are you talking about? the only one I had problem with was Wolf cause of all the frogs (it might have been even more irritating than the bike chase actually) |

They're all way too easy, even on the hardest setting most parts (except like, bike chases, etc.) are a breeze even for inexperienced players, it's been said a million times before but that doesn't make it any less true, it needs to be harder to remain unseen, and the health bar needs to be chopped to about an eight of it's size. |

i think the linear plot from MGS3 ruined the series....everything after that has been way too straightforward and not enough plot twists...but aside from that i dont have much problem with the story. its THE GAMEPLAY THAT MAKES ME WANNA SCREAM!!! You throw a grenade off a roof far away. it explodes. BOOM! ALERT MODE! SOMEHOW THE ENEMY KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE AND THEY ALL CONVERGE ON YOU! WTF? MPO is the worst offender here IMO. i cant tell you how many times i set up a claymore by the truck at the airport, ran off upstairs, someone walks on it, but instead of investigating the explosion scene, everyone *yep!* rushes upstairs! no jumping! wtf we have to wait till mgs4 to jump? lame. stupid AI. |

I hated the Cobra UnitT to be brutally honest. A man who controls Hornets. An astronaut / Pyromaniac. A Pyronaut if you want. A guy who is double jointed in most limbs with a forked tongue and stealth camouflage. An old guy, probably born before the Austro-Prussian War, who can remain in a state of 'deadness' until the time is right, running round the jungle with a fairly heavy Sniper Rifle. Meh. Most will disagree but I hated the Cobra Unit so much. |

I do suppose it was a challenge, i was so bloody happy when i beat it though, with 3/4 of my health also xD Yeah the last boss Spoiler: click to toggle To me it seemed it wasnt really part of the MGS gameplay, it felt weird, although the scenes were awesome. Wolf was hard too, i dont know if i could have beaten her without stun grenades. |

i actually agree....they all seemed supernatural. although i love the fury, compared to the other villains in the series the cobra unit was pretty weak. I mean, they never talked to each other like dead cell and foxhound did. they didnt seem like a cohesive unit. |

BINGO! The difficulty in MGS4 was a complete joke,I never even tryed the two easy difficulties. Normal felt like Easy,Hard felt like Normal, and Extreme just felt like a toned down hard. Extreme is really what pissed me off,its hardly any different than Hard. Hell, the 5hr play through was no where near the difficulty I was expecting. I remember being so challenged on both Hard and Extreme modes with 1-3,hell I find European Extreme to be completely impossible! MGS4's felt like cake for some reason. As for things that pissed me off in the series,I really only have problems with 2 and 4. 1 and 3 are practically perfect to me,minus some lame Bond stuff in 3. MGS2: Raiden - Its been stated a million times, but the second I started playing as Raiden I was just like,WTFFF,I've waited THIS long for 2 and now I can't even play as Snake? I found Raiden to be REALLY annoying, and I thought the whole Raiden/Solidus stuff was just a poor recreation of the relationship between Snake and Big Boss. However,I did grow to tolerate Raiden, but I still never really liked him that much. I can appreciate Kojima trying to make 2 different and all,but jesus,I was SOOOOO pumped for 2 after being memorized by 1,the second I started playing as Raiden it just depressed me. Length - Probably the shortest MGS. It doesn't bother me really that much, but if you skip all the cut scenes, the game feels SO short. Fortune - Biggest fail of a MGS character, hands down. Emma - Do I need to say anything here? Story - Ok now this is where I tend to flip flop. I really appreciate Kojima trying to just change the landscape of the story, and try to not make it feel like just a rehashed version of 1. The twists in the beginning were great, but I think their might of been way to many. Also, the story was SOOOO confusing,it took me about 7-10 play throughs to COMPLETELY understand what was really going on. This also kind of destroyed the franchise,in the sense that 2s sequel would need SOOOOO much explanations to do because of the confusion here. I don't really blame all the casual gamers who got turned off to MGS by this. However, part of me still enjoyed all of the story. While it was really confusing,I still felt suspense through out all of the game. The end of the game was truly a jaw dropper, and it just left me stunned. I personally think 2 gets way to much hate. Despite all this,I still think the game is amazing, and in some ways is underrated in its own right. With all of Raidens annoyingness and confusion over the story,I had a blast playing it. It also had some excellent side characters, great boss fights, epic cut scenes and a huge step forward in gameplay. I love 2 to death. MGS4: Raiden - I was expecting so much more with Raidens story. It all seemed so rushed through. It was like "YEA HE GOT FUCKED UP SAVING SUNNY AND NOW HES A NINJA,OK? DONE!". This was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to in 4,and I thought Kojima completely dropped the ball. I hated the fact that you never got to see Dr. Madnar in the game. I thought he would of had relevance since he was in the original MG's and came back to rebuild Raiden. Its almost feels as if because he was now a Cyborg Ninja, there was no need to give him a deeper back story after his importance to MGS2. I really hope later down the line in a possible expanded MGS4 game or some PSN game we get a Raiden tales or something,we still deserve more explanation. I also couldn't stand the scene where he looses his arms in ACT IV. We get it Kojima, you want us to like him. Side characters - Easily the MGS game with the least deeper side characters. I thought Ed and Jonathan would be alot more important to the story. They turned out to be complete wastes. B&B Unit - This is kind of two sided for me. All the boss fights were a ton of fun,and I liked how Kojima recreated old MGS bosses through the four of them. What I didn't like was that their was barley any backstory on why you were fighting them. Yeah they were victims of war,and worked for Ocelot and shit, but I want MORE of a reason to fight these bitches. Every previous MGS boss battle had great build and reason. These were kinda just thrown out at you without proper backstories. Also,am I the only one who found Drebins codec calls after every B&B fight annoying? Lack of newer characters - Besides Ed,Jonathan,Drebin and the B&B members,I would of liked their to be some newer faces in the game. I know Kojima wanted to bring back as many old characters as possible, but it wouldn't of hurt to have a few newer people in the game that were relevant to the story, unlike Ed,Jonathan and the B&B unit. The rest of my complaints I have labeled "fanboy rants": X as the navigate button - GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY No Nikita - I loved the Nikita,I still can't believe it wasn't in the game Saving on the start menu - Comeon, saving on the codec was WAY cooler Lack of people to call on the codec - WTF is with only being able to call Otacon or Rose? Not being able to hit up Campbell is straight up criminal! Other than those complaints,I thought MGS4 was amazing. Can't really say much more than that. MGS4 pretty much speaks for itself. The only thing that I really don't like about MGS is Rose I think. I honestly don't know why I despise her so much, but she pisses me off so badly. I also really like the idea and image of The Boss, but her character really annoys me at times in MGS3. Even though the scene before the dual with her is great, she really annoys me during that speech. |

I never liked the fact that Liquid could control Ocelot through his arm... And i would of preferred it if Liquid had survived MGS to then carry on to MGS2 (again surviving) then finally dying in MGS4... That would have been Epic |
