I think I'd say the one where Snake is dubbed a worthy opponent is canon. I know pretty much nobody who had trouble with Ocelot (when not strapped to a torture contraption anyway), so it doesn't surprise me that not many have seen this cut scene considering the purported parameters one must meet in order to trigger it. Not really... I've experienced this before. Thought I had seen and heard everything that is to be seen / heard in MGS1 already and after a year, or so BOOM.. a new codec conversation, or a scene comes in. It's true that MGS2 was more complex and more in depth, but I haven't gotten this many "post-experiences" from it, let alone the other titles!  Really, if you call someone (Most likely Campbell, or Nastasha) even after the TINIEST event in MGS1, it is almost a necessity that there's a lengthy conversation covering it.
