Note: the Opinions & Confessions forums will be closed for a couple days to familiarize yourselves with these new rules. Preface Contrary to popular belief, the Opinions Section is more of a privilege than a right, even more so than the rest of the forum. We intend to provide our members with an area to civilly discuss and debate the important issues that affect all of us, but this is not without preconditions. Therefore, by posting in the Opinions Section, you are agreeing to these rules, whether you have read all of them, some of them, or none. I. Privilege Just as posting on MGSF is a privilege, so, too, is posting in the Opinions Section. Like any privilege, abuse of said privilege will result in revocation. Abuse includes, but is not limited to, spamming, trolling, flaming, et cetera. Revocation of the privilege means you are no longer allowed to post in the section, and each time you do so afterwards will result in a warning. -> Appeal Clause: The only way to have the revocation of privilege overturned is by gaining permission to post again. II. Burden of Proof Due to the nature of an "opinion," it is not always the case that one will be based on fact. However, if you intend to state something as a fact, the burden of proof falls on you. That is to say, if you can not readily cite legitimate sources, repeating it will be considered spamming. (For the record, Wikipedia is not a legitimate source.) ->Put Up or Shut Up Clause: If someone calls you on you to provide sources for a fact as you can not, that means you do not repeat whatever you were called out on. III. Discrimination Dealing with opinions on personal matters— including, but not limited, race, religion, sexuality, et cetera— is extremely touchy. MGSF will not tolerate any form of discrimination. ->Belief Clause: There's a vast difference between discrimination over things that can not be controlled, such as race and gender, and matters of belief, such as religion and political affiliation. More leniency will be given when dealing with matters of belief, but caution is still advised. ->Keep Your Mouth Shut Clause: If you intend to say, "It's my opinion that black people are niggers," or anything of the sort, that is an immediate removal of privilege and a warning or warnings to boot. IV. Repetition Consistently repeating your opinion while adding nothing new to the topic will be considered spam. V. Flaming When dealing with matters of opinion on controversial topics, it is understandable that people get heated and upset. We are willing to tolerate such hot-headed behavior, but we also have the final say in what is and in what is not acceptable. VI. Preaching/Condemnation The Opinions Section is meant to be a place for people to exchange views on important modern issues; it is not a place for people to assert their religious views on other people. Preaching (regardless of religion) will be considered spamming; condemnation (telling a member he or she is going to hell) will be considered flaming. VII. Cessation Any post made in a thread after being asked or told to stop will be considered spam. Edited by the_cobbinator, Nov 28 2008, 05:16:49 AM.

After a recent incident in the Opinions forum resulting in multiple members being warned, the staff would just like to remind everybody about a couple of things: 1. This forum isn't a place for spam and meaningless talk. Topics of the Opinions section are intended to be of a generally serious nature. Therefore, mindless discussion and out-of-place jokes will be deemed as spam, and will result in a formal warning at the staff's discretion. 2. As noted in the opening post, any post made in a thread after being asked or told to stop by a moderator will be considered spam, and will also result in a warning at the staff's discretion. We don't like having to babysit and repeat ourselves multiple times. All in all, if you want to avoid getting burned, don't play with fire. And, on a side note: the "Sick Sad World" topic has been pinned. We encourage any horrific and sick news to be posted in there. |
