Take a look at this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avanquest-Software-Fallout-Collection-DVD/dp/B000FUD16A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1240944536&sr=8-4 This is where I ordered my copy of the Fallout Collection, which is all the old Fallout games on one DVD disc. Fallout 1 works perfectly. Fallout 2 is an entirely different matter. Whenever I install it, it comes with a 'Can't read/load text error and won't play the game. After searching, I discover that this is a common error and gamers on forums have offered vague advice on how to fix it that may or may not work. I have been unable to get my Fallout 2 working, and I feel that is is time I warned people of the dangers of purchasing such a faulty piece of software that says on the back that it is compatible with XP. Pah! I've seen this collection on sale in video game shops, the store people unaware of the fact that each one may or may not work on a person's computer, and I feel as though I should inform them of this. I have already informed Amazon in a review, and hopefully if I can spread this message, they will be taken off the shelves and the company behind the game will be sued and the staff responsible for making such a faulty piece of shit will be sacked! The only drawback to this however is that the company I am refering to made Fallout 3, and I love that game. Tell the people! |

Just because it didn't work on yours and a few other PCs, doesn't mean it's faulty. Welcome to PC gaming, things don't always work. |

You have to use the mega install, or it doesn't work. |

I've used it on this PC and on my laptop, both use XP and have the same problem: 'Can't read/load text error'. Mega install or not, it doesn't work. Like I said its a common error. I've followed the advice of many gamers on forums, nothing works. It is a badly programmed faulty piece of shit that is on sale in stores and should be taken off the shelves. |

You probably just need some update for windows or it won't work. Stop calling it faulty just because you can't get it to work. I know lots of people who can't get games to work on their computers, but that doesn't make them faulty, because I can get them to work on mine. You just need to learn how to fix PC problems before you go PC gaming. |

I read the specifications at the back of the box, my PC has everything it needs and so does my laptop. It should be going like a bat out of hell. Basically, it has something to do with a file that has a fault in it. I can't seem to fix said fault, and neither can my dad who knows alot more about computers than me. This fault has been seen in other copies of the game, so what part of 'the game is faulty' do you not understand? If certain games have glitches in them, it is because the programmer did a bad job, not because of the gamer. Look it up on forums. Google it, Fallout text error. Concurred. I had this version of fallout 2, and it works.
it's not the software. Most people who get this haven't installed it correctly. FYI, the game has various glitches in it, but none of them cause the game to not install. |

You don't have much experience in PC gaming, do you? Just about every PC game ever has problems for certain people, many preventing them from installing. |

Well I was curious about this so I tried searching for it on PirateBay. Found it and read the comments. 3 out of 20 had this error the others say it works fine. Since there all using the same source that tells me it's your computer and the way your OS accesses the software.

I've read about this since seeing this topic and it seems like there are definitely a lot of people who did install it without any issues. Either way, I mostly wanted to post in here to say that I gotta get this. |

The fucking mega install won't work coz of the fact that one of the files is corrupted! It goes through mega install and it says there is an error with one of the files. I install it using any other methods, it completes installation but it won't run coz of 'Cannot read text error'. I bought another copy today and its got the same problem. I'm gonna take it back and get a refund. Its not my fucking fault, ok? I follow the installation instructions, it doesn't fucking work. Stop blaming me! I got a small victory out of it though. I managed to copy Fallout 1 from the disc onto a copy disc, so at least I can play Fallout 1 whenever I want. The offending Fallout 2 can go back and rot for all I care. Did that surprise you? The fact that I had enough knowledge to pull that off? You gonna stop telling me I don't know what I'm doing? Edited by WHiTeFaLCoN, May 1 2009, 04:52 PM.

It's your fault. I tried it earlier today, works fine on my PC. It doesn't take a lot of knowledge to copy a game. The programs practically do it for you. All you have to do is click create iso, then click burn iso. So fix your PC and stop blaming the game. Do you not understand that fact that all PC games have issues? It's your PC. It's the exact same version, and it's a common problem because many people have the same setup on their PC, causing it not to work? |
