Just started a new play through, and haven't played this for a very long time. Anyway, beat Ocelot, got out there, then was searching for a while for Meryl's frequancy, not actually paying attention to where it actually was. Complete and utter fail moment. Anyone else ever experience that? |

Can't say I've ever had a failing moment finding Meryl's codec number. I always had the CD case present with me. Besides, I memorized it. |

That's the thing see, not played in years so couldn't remember off the top of my head AND I was looking at the CD case. ![]() Completely idiotic to be honest, it was right there infront of me yet it took me ages to actually notice it.

Completely understandable. I remember when I first played it; way back when, I didn't get it.

Nowadays I own an original game with case, but when I was younger I had a copy and I didnt knew where the hell to find the code. So I just dailed all the 200(?) possible frequencies hahaha.. |

My first time playing MGS1 was on the Essential Collection. For me the code wasn't on the case, but on the box that holds all three games. So basically I was just looking on the back of the case not seeing anything until I found it in the instruction manual. I didn't even notice it was on the box a few months afterwards. |

A fourth wall? What's that? Yeah, I've never owned a copy with an intact back cover to the case, and had to resort to a walkthrough book as punishment for not paying attention myself the first time. But now I pretty much know it by heart, and always have the back of the MGS:TS pack to look at if I forget ![]() I never did get how the characters KNEW how to look through the screen at the cases as a kid XD |

Breaking the Fourth Wall — when fiction acknowledges its fictional status. I remember scratching my head, trying to figure out how to read the back of the CD case... Of the MO Disc Baker gives you in-game. It didn't occur to me until later, after a bag of chips, I believe, and an episode of Xena, that the the goddamn screenshot of Meryl in codec (on the back of the case) was a clue. Totally failed. Ai me... |

lol, I know all codec frequencies by heart, from all the 4 mgs parts. But anyway... the first playtrough I was stumped too. I had a copy, and just like Roxis, I had to dial all the codecs to get it. But even when I got the original copy straight after my first play-trough, I was like 'uuuuhhhhh' when he mentioned the cd-case. This is probably THE most classic fail of every MGS fan

that happen to me 2. see my dad was playing for years so i thought i saw enough to know how to play and yea i beat the first boss in three tries (i was 5) when i got to that part i looked on the case and saw a codec # i thought they were just the product # but after a while i tried the codec # and found the number. it was like 11:00 A.M. so i was really tired so i saved it and died 3 times trying to beat the gas part. |

Yeah, I've experienced it. Kind of emabrassing. When I contacted Colonel Campbell about it, he said to look at the back of the disc and I though he meant the MO disc (or whatever disc you get in game). I had to look it up on the internet what the frequency was. Then I was looking through the MGS booklet and it's in there too. |

I remember them all too. Wooooooooo. When I rang up Campbell and he said 'look at the back of the CD case', I thought he meant the MO disk. I tried equipping it, using it on the computer in the hangar. I didn't realise it was breaking the fourth wall. How silly of me. Actually, I think I accidently realsied it was on the box when I got angry, and started looking at the back of the case. |
