How often do you text?; Do you like text messaging?

We live in a tech based society these days and most people as young as 8 are texting and it's quickly becoming one of the fastest growing methods of communication sense instant messaging. I send up to 50-100 texts per day to my girlfriend and I average an estimated 40 wpm while texting on my cell phone. I just zoom through that tiny keypad and can sometimes hold entire conversations through text for extended periods of time.

I know some people don't quite understand the whole texting thing and will simply ask, "Why not call the person?". Well, you could but in most cases you can't call a person if you are in an area where you can't talk on the phone or where it would be considered rude to be yapping. I text while out at dinner, while driving, while in my bed, while at work, while out shopping, while in the shower, while out on trips, etc. Often times my girlfriend texts me while she's at work in between her tutoring sessions. It's also a great way to stay in touch with friends and family (given they know how to text) because it's also cheaper than talking. For just $19.99 a month I can send unlimited text messages whereas I have a limited amount of minutes if the other party I'm talking to isn't on my service for mobile2mobile.

I'm texting mostly. I rarely call someone, unless he/she doesn't reply to text messages, or when I'm calling a store/bank — those things.

I rarely call people myself unless they also have AT&T in which case I get free minutes to them. But I spend most of my days texting.

I pretty much never text anyone. In fact, I hardly ever use my mobile phone at all (literally only like once or twice a year). I don't see the point. I have facebook & msn to keep in touch with people, so my phone's really only for stuff that needs to be said A.S.A.P.

I text ... while in the shower,
Seriously? You don't even put your phone down for 10 minutes to have a shower?

I don't even try. Why would I?

Text mainly, racked up close to 90 texts in three days to one person recently. All irrelevant crap, I usually moan at people for that, but hey ho.

If they think texting is rude then I just say whatever. Also, yes I do send a couple of texts even while I shower, if I don't respond to them I do at least read them. Now, did you enjoy trying to talk down to me?

Woah, calm down mate. Seems you read my post in the wrong tone. I wasn't talking down to you, I was stating a fact and asking a question.

 That kinda defeats the point of not calling to avoid rudeness

I don't (or very rarely) have conversations with people via text or by phone, I'd rather have a conversation with them there. I only thing I really use texting for is asking people to come out/being asked to come out and the occasional OMG I MUST TELL YOU THIS AMAZING THING RIGHT NOW texts to my best friend. I couldn't possibly text 50-100 times a day, I have better things to do with my time (I mean that in a non condescending way).

I dislike texting,(I send at most about 8 texts a year) I keep in touch with people on msn or on some rare occasions, bebo, but mostly I dislike textin because I really don't like communicating in a way that isn't instant.

I never really liked texting much but everyone I know is using it. It sort of grew on me though since you have the freedom to reply back whenever you feel like it and you don't have to continuously talk, when topic is over there's no awkward silences. I dislike it but it's my main form of communication with everyone :/

I usually text quite a bit while I'm in bed or bored at school. I usually send about 100(ish) texts a day.

I rarely ever call people (bar a small few, but even then i'd hardly do it, e.g. about 3 calls a months that'd last like 10 seconds.)
I'd say I send about 30-50 texts a day when I have free texts? Yeah that sounds about right.

I've gotta ask one thing (and please don't take offense to this): what on earth do you talk about?

Seriously, how do you send 100 texts a day without running out of stuff to say when you see them in person?

Well some people you just don't see that often as you'd like.
Sometimes like Roy said you have to get news through to someone as quickly as you can.

And I'd just basically talk about anything you'd talk about on networking sites, just simple things, how the week went, if they're going out, etc. etc.

I can understand texts for big news or arranging to go somewhere, but beyond that, I don't think it'd be long before I'm sitting there thinking "ok.... now I have nothing to say".

Even if I gave up facebook and msn and put all of that into text messages, I still would probably only average 10 a day.

Used to average around 1500 a Month, but it's a bit less now, maybe around 900 at the moment.

I'm in agreement with Gary. If I want to talk to them, i'll do it in person or if I can't, then msn. I mean, 100 texts at around 2 minute per text = over 3 hours a day texting. Fucking hell, I don't have 3 hours a day spare.

I generally have quite a bit of time to spare and I only spend this much time texting and talking with my significant other over the phone. As for anyone else, I would just call them or something as I rarely talk to other people that aren't the person I'm in a relationship with. This of course isn't unusual for me. I have never really been one to have large social groups or to be active in little "clicks".

I use my phone constantly because I deleted my facebook and other nonsense, so a phone or MSN is the only way to stay in contact with me.

I text at least 4 or 5 times a day. Use to be way more when I was in a relationship or seeing someone.
