Ok, sorry if It's already been discussed, but the search function isn't working for me keeps saying its offline so please don't lock the thread. Do you agree with Snake not going through with the suicide at end? Personally, I think Snake should have pulled the trigger at the end. I mean they talked so much about MGS4 being Snake's final battle so why end it where he just dies of old age? It would have made the story much more powerful if he suicided because he was thinking he was doing the right thing (like the games theme of history repeating itself; he thought he was doing right thing but really wasn't), but as we learn from big boss he didn't really have to. I know some people will say then what about the big boss conversation... well they could have still added the big boss conversation in it somehow, maybe Big Boss visits snake's grave later on in the game, and "talks" to snake. This, in my opinion, would have been epic. Well I guess it's just me, i like sad endings, but maybe more preferred the happy ending :/ |

Yeah that search thingy never works for me either... I didn't need the Big Boss appearance... Hearing the shot, not seeing Snake when it went off, that would've been fine. Leaving things to my own imagination as I watched Drebin get wasted, Meryl toss Jonathan to the ground in an arm wrestling match, and Otacon and Sunny's banter would've been a suitable way to end the game. I suppose, what I wanted was a conclusion to Snake's story, but left vague enough that the fans are left wondering and hoping. |

The search option is a ZB error. They've been supposedly sorting it out for about a year now. I wanted Snake to die at the end of MGS4. The whole i'm going to live thing was crummy. Now people are retarded enough to be saying I HOPE HE IS IN RISING because of it. Obviously he can't be, but if he had shot himself people would probably have stopped that shit. Also, the Big Boss scene was so messed up. That scene should have been so much better, rather than 'YES SNAKE, EVERYTHING WAS NANOMACHINES. OH AND ZERO BEING A NAUGHTY BOY AND TRYING TO LIVE ON IN A MACHINE. I WILL DIE NOW' If anything, both of them should have died, and a better reason for The Patriot A.I other than Zero created them and they went crazy and focused on war and money. |

He should have killed himself. It would have been the perfect end to what was supposedly "Snakes final mission". The way it ended has left (as karb said) the possibility of him making a return, which means the fans are going to be debating that instead of asking the important questions. |

I think it would have been right for him to kill himself at the end, but I deep down wouldn't want him to die, though unlike most other people here, I think Big Bosses appearance at the end was epic. |

When I first played it, I thought it was cool, even though i'd seen it coming. But then I realised it punched a hole through the plot, and was just kind of silly. It could have been done so much better, or they could have just kept solidus's corpse as Big Boss's corpse, and nullified that scene completely. It would have been much more effective that way. |

I would have prefered him to die, from either him shooting himself at the end or perhaps Snake and Liquid could have both killed each other in their fight. Oh, by the way, there's a google search bar at the bottom of the page that works, hardly anyone seems to realise its there ^_^. |

Marry me please. The part where Big Boss appeared and then died was the saddest moment in video game history for me. I cried like a child that day. Rest in peace, Big Boss. You will be missed. As for Snake, well, it would be really sad if he did die, but either way, B.B.'s death would still be sadder. Sorry guys, but I am a total B.B. fangirl, but Solid Snake is awesome too. Edited by Meryl719, Sep 16 2009, 10:38 PM.

I loved the Big Boss scene... Greatest scene ever... [FLAME SHIELD (ON) OFF] Anyway, Yeah, I'd like for Snake to live, but at the same time, his story appears to be finished...so I'm not 100% sure. |

i would've loved to see him retire back to Alaska.. I dont know why, but it seems like a peaceful resolution. His death (or soon to be death) wasn't really necessary imo. |

fucking word. What a lame and cheap-ass cop out. Nanomachines? SERIOUSLY? this is what all you fanboys get for bitching about everything needing to be explained and spoon-fed to you...you get weak-ass answers that ruin the series. |

i was shattered when the credits were rolling and i hadn't seen big boss, or at least sad at that time knowing he was dead, i mean surey no one thought that wasn't him. I was sad watching meryl and johnny's end part because i thought he(snake) was dead. But i like the idea of knowing that he probebly lived the remainder of his days with his only true friend, away from war and the battlefield which he had been stuck in for so long. And also, as someone who felt so sorry for Big Boss, i was glad to see him and see he and snake at peice with each other. when he says that part about him not thinking of snake as a son and respecting him as a soldier it was one of the greater moments in the series, for me. And when he sat at Boss's grave just added to it. i liked MGS4 and was satisfied with the ending, and how hopefully the series came to a close, well snake's part of it at least. sorry if i rambled on a bit too much but i could write a book about how much i like the series and each of the games. |

I saw him killing himself as poetic justice. It is beautiful in a sick way, and a perfect way to end his legacy from a story writing standpoint. I certainly didnt WANT snake to die in that way, but isnt that the point? Im sure Otocan wouldnt have wanted Snake to kill himself, from a freinds point of veiw, but for the sake of the story, it would have been perfect. And i really like that whole Big Boss standing over his dead body, narrating. Maybe even about how hes going to employ all of Liquid Ocelots leftover troops and create Outer Heaven now that he is alive and there is no Solid Snake to get in his way. You know? The same type of cruel villian we see at the end of Metal Gear 2. Now that would have been something. Snake is dead, and Big Boss is gunning for Outer Heaven again. Its up to Raiden to stop him with the assistance of Otocan and Sunny. lol sorry. Anyways, I would prefer the game end when the first set of credits start rolling. |

nah snake couldn't have died i knew it the moment naomi said he would be a pleague in the next three months. if snake had killed himself then he would be a hero. and as he always says "i'm no hero... never was never will be" so i thought it was all perfect in the end

Wow man... What a question! Hahaha... Of course I wanted Snake to live, I want Snake to be happy and I would have loved a cute short scene of Snake, Otacon and Sunny cooking eggs or something. I'm playing MGS for 10 years, I would have been devastated if Snake would have died at the end of the game! About Big Boss' appearing, well... I cried a lot too (who hasn't cried in MGS games??, please!!) it was so bittersweet... Big Boss at last finding peace and his son going to live peacefully, what his father couldn't do... At least for a few months. And, you know about the ending Kojima thought in the beggining? The whole Sacco and Vanzetti ending? If you don't, please don't google it... I would have died in pain if that ending was the one in the game, hope it never, ever happens and next MGS is the final one for once and Snake stills alive and stuff, man, I'm so scared! I found myself torn when I first learnt that Snake would have to die, so resolving that.. was actually pretty good to see in the end. The epilogue was one of, if not the most, cinematic moments that I have ever in my life exeperienced and knowing that Snake lives on.. that's perfectly acceptable in my books. |

I heard he was gonna sacrifice himself or something like that. I recall my friends talking about it for a while. I'm glad he didn't. Solid really pulled through and chose to live in the end unlike The Boss. |

Undoubtedly, he should live. I've been a Snake fan ever since.. forever man, and I would have seriously crrrriiieeed my heart out if he would have suicided. But, if he thought it was a "good cause" then I deeply respect and admire his decision. Though this would have ended the series (?) he should have stopped the fights after the Shadow Moses incident. He shoulda realized that he was just making his life a waste at war (though he was "created" for that). He can choose the type of life he wants to have no matter how he came to life. He's reaaally a heerooo. |
