Sounds like the wound was inflicted as the burgular supposedly lunged at the kid, hand outstretched to grab him, the kid slashed downwards, hit his hand and carried across his chest.

But again I ask — who'd lunge at a sword wielding opponent? Sad already mentioned about how scary something like that would be. I guess I'm having difficulty accepting that part... It doesn't make alot of sense to me, an unarmed burglar lunging at a kid with a sword.

Am I the only one who's thinking he stood over the man with blood all over his face with quite a sadistic looking anime smile :P

Guarantee the kid saw this first.

To me it looks as though it's what Sad said about the guy attacking the student thinking he's not going to do nothing, I mean the guys a robber he's probably had quite a few tuffs and a scrawny anime geek holding a samurai sword probably didn't faze him too much so he stupidly attacked, I think the kid will get away with it.
Waiting for Shenmue III like...

why a sword? Why not a kitchen knife?

In Texas, under the Castle doctrine, it wouldn't matter.
If someone forcefully breaks into your home, you can use lethal force on them, and it doesn't matter what you use to get the job done.

Hell, you can even shoot them in the back as they are running away OFF THE PROPERTY and the Castle doctrine will keep you from being charged.

I think Maryland has a similar stance when the intruder is in your home, and it shouldn't matter what they kid grabbed to fight with. He probably grabbed it because it was the most formidable thing he had in his inventory and he felt more protected with it. Any good defense lawyer can tell the jury that.

I've collected katanas for some time but I got rid of them, for the GF..
Takes guts, to actually cut someone with a katana. I'd pause and probably just run away.
I bet he knew quite well how to handle one.

You're certainly more connected with your opponent in a way with blades. Shooting your attacker sort of desensitizes the whole affair in a way.

How well do you live?.....In your Mind?
But but......why Murderizes? Lol :)

In any case interesting story because of the rarity. At least it's rare to my ears. But perfectly understandable and defensible.

HAH, one of my fav scenes in Kill Bill.

When someone lunges at you I don't think you really have time to think it's more like your body goes in self defense mode. I guess it's similar to when you're just exchanging words prior to a fight, as soon as the first punch flies you really don't have time to think, you either defend yourself or get pummeled by hesitating. Best thing I can think of to compare ti to at least.

Plus as Ollie said the burglar probably thought the kid was some Nerd who'd never react, never good to judge someone on first impressions guess he learned the hard way some people are natural Born killers :P . I like that Law though Sor, nothing pisses me off more than someone stealing something that I worked so hard for and breaking into your home, somewhere that's suppose to be safe and your sanctuary, gets folks extremely pissed that someone will invade their territory.

Balde = Ultimate intimidation factor , being gutted is alot more scary then getting shot in teh head.

Even if he didn't lunge at the kid, you still can't blame him really. In situations like that, fear takes over. I know I would be so scared I would have swung at him before he had a change to lunge at me.

Same, if I some a random person in my house/garage. I would probably attack them, and ask questions later. Might be dumb, but there is no reason a stranger should be in my home.

This is as ridiculous as that story of some guy trying to rob a house and almost getting eaten alive by a dog...
Later on, the robber sued the home owners of which he tried to rob, I believe he won?

Fuck America.

Eeh. Well, it's the American law system's fault, not just the lawyers. The lawyers are just subject to the system itself. Which is that of the highest bidder/best at finding loopholes wins.

Really? I don't recall Roy ever mentioning being a pacifist.

But for me, as I said in the last burglar thread, if the guys is running out the house or isn't a threat to you, then it's not right to kill them over possessions.

But what if he returns and eventually brings a weapon in the mix so this time he doesn't have to run? Isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

Because that's what burglars do? Why would they come back? Moreso with a gun? It's highly unlikely.

No it's not. If you go by that logic, then you better kill anyone who ever stole anything ever.

How do you know it was the same people? Besides, that's a business, not a student room.

YOUR FACE!

Cause they broke in at first but workers on the night shift sort of scared them off after. The descriptions matched up with my dad's.

Wasn't a big business, was a neighborhood sort of thing.
