So I suppose he just spend hundreds of millions of dollars building not one, but two Metal Gears, just to frighten the Patriots? The Patriots can't be frightened, they're a machine, emotion is a completely alien concept to them. |

The Patriots are still controlled by "The man with the same codename as Null" Spoiler: click to toggle during the 70's. If I'm not wrong, The AI's take control a bit before MGS2.

Hmm, I know Big Boss commissioned the creation of Metal Gears TX-55 and D, but I definitely don't recall Outer Heaven intending to use Metal Gear TX-55 to launch a Nuclear Missile, or Zanzibar Land for that matter. In fact, both times Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land had a Metal Gear, or a Nuclear Missile, they did not make a threat about launching a missile into a country, never mind the United States. In fact, the first time (game release wise, I mean) the enemy unit actually threatened to use a Metal Gear OR a Nuclear Weapon against the United States, or ANY country for that matter, was in Metal Gear Solid with Liquid Snake. Heck, the manual for MG2:SS implies that, while the Metal Gear D is capable of launching Nuclear Missiles, it's primary use is for combat. Also, I might as well point out that, while Big Boss mentioned in his speech to Solid Snake that he seemed to realize that endless war is a perfectly logical part of life, he does not mention anything about launching Nuclear weapons or making threats at all. |

Ok. My mistake. But they WERE designed to launch nukes. That isn't built by chance or mistake. Still, BB was a crazy madman during MG and MG2. |

I can accept Metal Gear TX-55 and D doubling as both a nuclear missle luncher AND a grounded combat tank (as this concept would later lead to the GEKKOs in MGS4.) With the nukes being there simply for deterrence (one of Peace Walker's themes) and the missile launchers, rail guns etc for on ground warfare (when it will really be used, something that even the boxart implies), so long as Big Boss' dream of never ending war remains intact, something that will either make or break Peace Walker for me.

I hope they don't retcon MG. That would really suck. I think Kojima learned the lesson with MGS4, anyway. |

That's what pisses me off about MGS4. I mean, so if I acted like "Larry the Cable Guy", the Patriots will think I'm Larry the Cable Guy just because I act like him? Edited by JohnKiller118, Apr 22 2010, 08:10:44 PM.

Oh! That actually makes it slightly better! Plus, there was the fact that the Patriots need "eyes", ie the military or similar government power, to understand what the hell is going on. I was under the assumption that they were just watching it all from space or something. :heh-heh: |

Y'know what's funny? How easy it is for people to forget that the game is being released in a few days and that spoilers are unwanted. |

Well, the Novelization hints that he was raised by the Military and basically trained since early childhood to be a soldier (going through several intense excercises), which might explain Snake's comment of "I was raised by many people." I don't know about Liquid, though, although given the fact that Liquid was shipped off to the United Kingdom shortly after birth (why Liquid was shipped off despite being the superior clone, when Nixon explicitly stated that he wanted the superior clone, and Clark agreed to it, I'll never know), and Zero is implied to be American by citizenship, and even live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, I kinda doubt Zero had a hand in raising Liquid. At best, Zero might have paid occasional visits to Liquid. |
