I got MPO this summer and really enjoyed it despite its flawed presentation. I'm wondering about getting its expansion pack though. I'm not to concerned about online play, but I would like more missions and the addition of Snake and Raiden is enticing. What say you?

It may have been worth it right when it came out, but right now, not really. Its really meant to upgrade you soldiers and take them online with the new maps. Not that many people play online anymore. I say keep the money for Peace Walker.

Just another lack of God.

I occaisionally play the offline version, I really like the 20 stage challenge. I'd pick up a second hand version if you're desperate to play it but for what it was originally intended for it's not worth getting.

I paid $8 for mine...
Brand new, on sale at GameStop...

Just get it, it's more fun anyway and it's not like NO ONE plays the servers.
There's enough people to have fun in my honest opinion.

Don't get it. It's out of date and I doubt many people play it anymore.

Sure it is, it doesn't cost much and offline can be fun.
Online's problem is the community but you can have a fun time if you find a good group to play with.
And it's not like Peace Walker will be out soon. ?D

I don't really do online (not since the second SOCOM way back in the day), but got Plus anyways. I REEEEALLY wish it had included the regular PO campaign mode. All the new goodies and tweaks to the system would have been super ultra fun to use in single player campaign mode.

Alas . . .

I have been debating this for a while. I just got a PSP not too long ago, and I've been looking for a used copy of Portable Ops because I've only played it once and didn't even get through the full story. However, I can only find used copies of PO+ for some reason, and nobody at Gamestop can seem to be able to tell me anything about the game. I think I might just wait for Peace Walker in the long run. I played the demo and it's ridiculously fun.

Portable Ops is kind of hard to get at times. I've seen a bunch on Ebay and Craigslist recently for $15 or less but I rarely see a used ones in stores. For some reason, even when it was not OOP yet it was difficult to locate. When I finally located mine in 2007 (at HMV of all places) I paid $60+ (highest I've paid for any PSP/PS/PS2 game) and haven't seen a brand new one since the day I got mine. It was $57 plus Canadian taxes, it was nearly $65.

I went through hell to get Portable Ops and it was the only reason I got a PSP to begin with. The day I bought my PSP the nerds at EB told me they had a used copy of MPO but after 8 minutes of searching they couldn't find the UMD and I reluctantly took the PSP Daxter bundle anyways. It was months before I finally located a PO, but the saddest thing is that I only played it for a few days because then MPO+ abruptly came out 2 weeks later with a superior online mode. I only ever wanted to fill the void of MGO anyways.

In a nutshell, in the past 2 years I have only played MPO+. It's just a lot easier to put on and feel like you're getting something accomplished. I have about 140 completed Infinity Missions on Extreme, and about 1400 hours of battle time online/offline. It's been nothing but fun during the great depression of 2009 when I had more free time than money.

And I agree about MPO being better if you were able to import MPO+ data backwards. I started all save files without previously completing a related game, so I didn't import any data to MPO+ or Acid2 at the beginning. It would also be nice if you could import after you begin a save.

IMO, I think you're better off NOT getting this game and playing online. You're only going to get frustrated due to 99% of the people who still play this game are going to own you with hacked soldiers that have 500 HP and Stamina with S3 stats on everything and also uber careers such as Athlete, Artist, Scout, Acupuncturist, etc.

Thank God I quit MPO+ lol, it was so time consuming. xD

Here's to hoping that Peace Walker will be better online...... if Kojima decides to put online multiplayer in it.

I know the demo is ad-hoc only, but I'm hoping they would implement online for the full version.

I forgot to add this to my previous post but 2 additional reasons why I quit MPO+ was because...

1) The majority of the community are assholes (mostly the "pros")

I don't know if it's just me but if you tread on GameFAQs and ask for help, most likely, you'll get flamed by the "pros." I remember when I was just starting out back in October '08 and I would ask for help on GameFAQs, immedietly I was flamed by the so called "pros" of the community such as NPA Mata- whatever and his "followers." The only "pro" I think that had class was Cellphish IMO.

It's not just in the boards where people show their assholes, they also show it in the way they play sometimes. There were times when a player gets killed, he/she would ragespam the number 0 (In case you don't know, 0 = noob in MPO), and I don't know if anybody has experienced this but if you pwn the host and his teammates "too hard," he/she and maybe their teammates may accuse you of hacking and will kick you.

I've noticed how players bitch about other players who use Sub-Machine guns, Auto-locking, and the RPG > Headshot combo, although I can symphathize about the A-Locking since there are players who just spam it all day long to get easy kills and it can easily take down a pro who is actually trying to shoot while strafing.

2) The online experience of MPO in general just doesn't feel like what an online MGS should feel like.

This was my first online MGS game I've played and I was under the impression that an online MGS game emphasized stealth, tactics, teamwork than just rushing in like Rambo. Since this is on the PSP, I understand that the online couldn't be like what MGO1 was obviously, but in most TDM matches, you see 2 teams of 3 players running around in the open trying to shoot each other. In AR TDM matches, which are supposedly Semi-Pro and Pro players who player under those rules, 99% of the time, you just see them strafe shooting. To me, that doesn't feel very MGO-esque at all.

Also, the fact that the devs didn't put any dummy boxes almost makes the C. Box useless. Anyway, I think I was one of the few players who actually tried to be sneaky and use flanking and ambush tactics in TDM, hell I even used the C. Box and it saved my ass a couple of times.

Anyway, that's what I have to say, while MPO is fun for an online PSP game, there are so many things that can be improved, which is why I'm hopeful that Peace Walker will have online. :)

man, dont listen to the naysayers. at 20 bucks or less, this game isnt going to leave a hole in your wallet and its fun to play with the new weapons (m4, m4 SOPMOD, p90, mk23, just to name a few) and as the new character types (navy seal, tengu) even if you never take it online, its still a fun stealth challenge to try to get big boss on extreme, since you start off infinity mission in true MGS fashion, with no pre-equipped weapons and everything is OSP.

All you americans say it's tricky to find MGPO but there are loads of copied on the UK ebay (which you can buy from in America but shipping will be more obviously) for quite a reasonable price.

Outer Heaven.We'll need one soon.

I would say get.I loved this game so much.Yes the online is not very great but you do sometimes get good people to play with, to me the single player in this game is the best part because it had a real MGS feel with the OSPness for infinite missions.Plus infinite mission is a pretty good challenge.

But if you cannot get any more money by the time Peacewalker comes out just wait for it and don't spend it.
