1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? It was fukkin hard, but it somehow got me glued. specially after joining S3. 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? Konami has fuckud up MGO itself. I used to be thrilled playing survival with mates. Now survival has become a fucking joke with the mess Konami caused. 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? 1. Deathloop 2. extreme lag is a normal thing 3. DCs are a normal thing 4. lack of Konami doing anything about anything 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? Yes. I love and hate it at the same time. It keeps me coming back, but I have almost no fun anymore.... 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? No. It has elements. But those elements itself ruined MGO with the damn boxpopping thing. It's a disgrace and a joke. Stealth is not MGO's strenght at all. Only RES and TSNE come close. 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? I remember playign with Zen / Young Snake every single day. Now it was just survival eves and as of yesterday next to nothing as oldschool S3 has decided to call it quits on survival. Konami killed it itself. I dispise of Konami. |

1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? I loved this game, it was so different than FPS games that I was used to playing. There was definitely a strategy factor that I couldnt get on other games 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? Yes, all of the glitching and laggy stuff you run into gets frustrating, but really, I still love playing the game. 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? Does it bring out the worst in people? Yes, it's the internet toughguy syndrome. Everyone seems to think they are the best and when they die they want to make excuses or kick someone. I think the majority of the players aren't old enough to purchase the game themselves (in the US, I dont know the rating systems in other countries) so they are pubescent angry teens that dont know how to act in social situations or be mature in any way. 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? If so, why is that? Yes, it seems that most days i can enjoy it, but certain days it gets frustrating when you HS someone then 5 seconds later they kill me before they die. that lag is frustrating. 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? Really, the only MGS game i played has been 4, so I dont really know the answer to this one. 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? I played it too much to begin with, but now a days i play less, mostly because my gf and her daughter live with me now and i dont get that much time to play. |

1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? Interesting... online gameplay with a lot of tactical potential... lots of hilarious moments. 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? I think the playerbase has changed, less people who're just playing for a laugh, more people who're super-serious about winning. I think most of the fun people already left. 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? I think there's a lot that happens in the game that seems unfair... and it happens to everyone... shots missing when they (from your point of view) shouldn't, being CQC'ed from miles away, getting shot from around corners, team stacking, kill stealing, the wild framerate. Then there's the people whining at you, getting vote-kicked for not playing exactly the way someone else thinks you should. And then if you care about your stats, there's the pressure to perform. It's all a perfect storm for stress and people losing the plot. 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? Yep. Although lately I have less patience for the hate side of things... the hate has been replaced by just not being bothered and quitting. 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? The way most people play, it feels more like a crappy 3rd person Counter-Strike. Run-and-gun works... I play a whole lot better when I do it, but it's not fun for me... why wouldn't I just play some other online shooter? 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? Probably 200+ hours clocked up. Hardly ever play it now. |

1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? This is awesome, nothing like hiding in a cardboard box, choking people, watching people fly in the air from nades or being able to switch from first person to 3rd. 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? Its way too hard to set up a lag free game with other Aussies or New Zealanders, we're in with Europe so you create a game with a big "AUSTRALIA/NZ ONLY" and you get some wanker who doesn't speak English lagging it up. You need to use genious passwords that only Aussies will understand and then even finding other Aussies is nigh on impossible, it seems not many play the game anymore. 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? Does it bring out the worst in people? Hell yes it does, its one of the WORST online communities for people having a go at each other, "OMG LAG YOU'RE A SHIT HOST" because of how glitchy the game is, for instance grenading someone and you run out of cover like "YES!!!" to kill them and they teleport along the floor and shoot you dead. Or how you can pull off insanely bullshit shots like 1 hit kill from all the way across the map with an M4 against a Sniper who shot at you a few times and somehow the bullets missed. All these things contribute to the "lag" callings and general rage within the game, if the chat is being used for something its accusing someone else of being "Euro" "Lagger" "Shotgun noob" "You're shit" etc rather than "enemy here" and the like. 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? If so, why is that? Yeah its fun to play when you get a full game going, but the general glitchyness of the game and lack of support for Aussies/New Zealanders from Konami pisses me off, fancy having Survival matches at 2AM in the morning for us or sticking us in groups by PAL or NTSC, it should be sorted by latency lowest (WITH A NUMBER) to highest. 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? I don't mind but I do admit Sneaking Mission is my favorite out of all the gameplay types. 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? Less now, since one of the patches made my game lag out the moment it gets more than 8 players, I'm limited to 8 player games max, perfectly fine with 8, once it hits 9 i instantly lag out and im the only one who does. I asked everywhere and no one replies because its an unpopular game. There seems to be a common complaint amongst all of us regardless if you're in the southern hemisphere or northern, its that our servers arent maintained at all, we're left to die. 1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? I was like, holy crap, this is it - i dont need a girlfriend anymore, i got mgo 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? Oh god, i hate this game so much, thank god i have a girlfriend... and the if so part ill get to later! 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? Does it bring out the worst in people? Yeah, the flaming, ppl dont respect anything or anyone. So many ways to cheat. Konami created its own beast and let it run wild 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? If so, why is that? Dont agree here, either u love it or hate it 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? idc 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? At first i played every single second i didnt have to work or please my gf. Now, almost never. Now, on to my rant, and the single reason i registered here: I FUKKING HATE Konami and MGO. U have to understand, i was the biggest fanboy there was. None of my RL gaming friends played MGO or cared about the game. They told me to switch it up, play other games, but no, all i ever wanted was to play Teamsneaking. Ever. It was so great, i played for hours daily. But since Modern Warfare 2 came out and i played it online, i realized what a big shiithole MGO really is. The lagging, the animation lag, ppl ending games, the teamkilling.... etc. None of that ever happens in MW2. Ppl cant host their own game here, and if host quits you have a delay of 5 seconds and pick it up right were you left off. Also, the expansion packs - not too many ppl must have bought em cause if i joined free battle no one ever played it. Always the same old classic maps: Fukk UU, MM, GG, BB. I could go on for days about how bad MGO sucks now, but i think most of ya´ll know yourself. For the last couple days i played MW 2 exclusively, now just a hour ago i decided to check back on MGO. What happened? Major stacking in first game, teamkilling in the second, host quitting in the third because he got killed........ haahahahahaa, so pathetic. MGO is dying slowly - i play on euro servers and theres hardly 1000 ppl online - 1000!!!!! Out of all of europe only 1000 if at all. I´d never thought i´d say this....... but FUKK MGO! See you when MGO 3 rolls around, i hope! Sorry for the rant! |

1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? I thought MGO was very unique online game. I had never played a shooter that had such an emphasis on close quarters combat and surprising your enemies. The camera angles are what made the game for me, I think. I loved how you could use them to you advantage, just like you were playing the single player campaign. The fact that you could be stealthy was what absolutely sold me. Being able to use CQC online was also awesome. When I first started playing, I thought it was the coolest online game around. In general, I thought all the mechanics were well made, and the game overall felt very well thought out. 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? Although I've come to recognize some of the faults in MGO's gameplay, I don't really fell that much different about it. I love the format of this game. It's set up in such a way that the player can assume almost whatever playstyle they want, and be fairly successful at it. MGO feels very open-ended, very sandbox, and I like that. 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? Does it bring out the worst in people? People get frustrated when the enemy has a skill/weapon that is better than theirs, or they feel is overpowered in some way. MGO has both a tiered weapon system and a skill system, so I guess that's why so many people are frustrated all the time. But it's no more frustration than what's present in every other online game. All in all, though, it's annoying as all hell and I hate it. Grow up, people. Edit: Ok ok, I'll be honest. The MGO community SUCKS. They moan, whine, and cry more than anyone else out there. I sometimes find myself shocked at how over the top idiotic some people can get inside MGO, and it seems to get worse all the time. 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? It used to be like that, but now I assume a more casual stance about how I deal with MGO. I've discovered my playstyle, and I do fairly well with it. If I'm having a bad day, I either stop playing or try my fix whatever I'm doing wrong. 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? Hmm. I feel that when MGO was created, their first priority was to make it feel a lot like MGS. The camera angles, CQC, opportunities for stealth, and the various crawlspaces/trapdoors scattered around the maps are an obvious attempt to make MGO feel as authentic to Metal Gear as possible. Sure, not many people USE what's given to them, but I guess that just makes them the mindless guards who wait around for Snake to grab em'. What sells me on this is the addition of the box to everyone's inventory (and the fact that MGO makes the box an actual stealth tool with the dummy boxes scattered around) and the fact that CQC is as developed as it is in single player. 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? My internet connection when I first started playing was horrible, so I didn't really play much. And when I did, I lagged horribly and got really frustrated. Now I have a great connection, so I play much more than I used to. To sum it up, I really like MGO. This is the longest I've played any online shooter, simply because I like how this game is set up. Although the community can get a little frustrating from time to time, the gameplay is fun enough to overshadow that. Edited by Skeptopotamus, Nov 21 2009, 02:58 PM.

^This. I can agree with pretty much every point you make there. Since playing MW2, I've lost all desire to play MGO. Hell, I've even been playing Killzone 2 online just to get away from the everyday rubbish that goes on in MGO. I went back to play MGO the other day. First game= I was kicked for being level 16 by a host who was level 14. Second game= I was called a 'RUSHER NUB FFS' for killing 3 enemies in a game of Rescue, and then grabbing the target on the last second of the round. Third game= I disconnected. ('Connection Unstable' message) Fourth game= My disc crashed when loading up TDM on MM. (The disc icon appeared in the top left corner, with a question mark hovering over it) To think that in the three or four random games I played, I was made to put up with utter nonsense. Hence why MW2 is the online game for me now. |

1. When you first ever played MGO, what was your opinion of it? Thought it was amazing, I was hooked from the beginning, been a MGS since the first and I loved the improvements of MGS4 such as OTS view. I also loved the teamwork side of it such as SOP and Clans, made it great fun when you got your own team of friends that have your back. 2. Has that opinion changed? If so, how? Everyone plays different now, It used to be about wall camping, spraying and side rolling then box pop came and so did elitism. It was a lot better when we were all newbies. I used to care about my stats, I wanted to be the best like everyone else probably did, but then you see what a tw*t it turns people into leaving to save their level, so I figured f*ck it, they're just numbers that no one else cares about apart from me and what will I achieve by holding a high level and grade? nothing. I'd rather play with lower levels in survival, they aren't worried about their stats, they just want to play and earn some reward and don't rage at each other. Now I just like to keep my head down and watch the elitist part of the community destroy the game, deathlooping and lag switching just to win. 3. In your eyes, does MGO have a key problem that causes people to behave so angrily and foolish on this title? Stats. Most people are worried about their Grade or Level, don't know why, its just a number and no one cares about yours. The lag can be awful sometimes but I don't really care, just shrug it off. Also, live commentary about someone's grade, I don't give a sh*t if you lose or gain 10GP or whether you get a ++ or - - neither does anyone else in the team. Then claiming the target in the next CAP game. 4. Would you agree that MGO is a game that you love on a certain day, and can possibly hate on the next day? Yes. It gets tiresome a lot of the time, mostly because of the childish behaviour, or network problems but then the next day I can't wait to get back on there. 5. Is there enough 'Metal Gear' in 'Metal Gear Online'? Does the game really feel like a Metal Gear title to you, or does it feel more like a casual shoot 'em up that features characters and music from the MGS universe? Most people say there's no sneaking etc. but i'm usually sneaking around, listening for other people, deciding where to hide. I don't think you can compare it to MGS because you were against A.I that had limited vision and a set route. 6. How often did you play when you first discovered MGO? Do you play it more now, or less than you originally did? Used to play atleast 4-5 hours a day when I first got it, not so much now, and I have YLoD. I think if MGO had maps like some of the areas in MGS3 such as where you fight The End, that have a lot of dense areas people would sneak, be cautious and it would really change the game. I could imagen everyone wearing ghillie suits lying down in the grass and bushes waiting for someone to pass by being ready to CQC them. That is what Metal Gear Online should be like in my opinion. I agree.^ If there were maps that actually FORCE you to camp and use tactics, MGO would be a much better gaming experience. Just as you said, the area where you face The End would be perfect for this. |

I was suprised i could do all the MGS stuff in online game and i soon grew addicted to it. But i didnt fully understand the way to headshot constantly, like most players i met did, so i tried to do CT, which proved to be very bad experience. Up to today i havent met anyone doing real CT, its always full of level 14+ guys who just kill each other for Instructor skill and no stats.
I still love the game, but i hate 75% of the players in MGO. I mean all those glitchers, moaners etc. I know its in every online game, but i never saw so much hate like in MGO.
I dont think its the games fault, but the peoples. I dont care about my level, grade or anything, i play it for fun, so i dont understand those that act angrily and foolishly. If i would have to pick one thing it would be that your level and Grade Points can drop, thats what makes the anger if you ask me.
I love it on Survival and Tournament days. Only then i can play Free Battle in peace, since most of the players that care about level, grade points, or rwd are there.
It feels very MGS to me, since all the characters are there and even without the MGS stuff, like box etc. it would be my favourite online game, for its tactical options and lot of possibilities, like CQC, weapon upgrades, Codec messages etc.
I play it a little less, because right now theres a lot of new games i want to play out there, like Assassin's Creed 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Borderlands. But after i finish those i get back to MGO. xD |
