First, this should have gone to Gaming Chat.

Second, only certain types of PS3's can play PS2 games. 20 gbs and 60 gbs can play PS2 games via hardware. Some 80 gbs can play PS2 games via emulation.

All PS3's can play PS1 game via emulation.

So what type of PS3 do you have? If you have a PS3 slm, then you're shit out of luck.

PS2 games can only be played on 60G PS3s. And even then, not all work. Hopefully sometime in the future Sony will grow brains and fix this, but after the release of PS GO, they're more likely to send a top secret spy team just to pull down Bill Gates' trousers.

EDIT: Frost was better and quicker. :suicide:

Well, i use to have a PS3 that can play PS2 games but that one had a problem running the PS3 games because it would show random lines and freeze on some games. Also i do believe my PS3 is a slim because of the silver (correct me if I'm wrong), and i believe its a 40 or 60G

Did you buy your current PS3 recently? Which of these does it look like?

The original model of the PS3 (60GB) was able to play PS2 games, later models however did not feature the same components that allowed PS2 games to be played, however PSX games are still able to be played. However other than the original 60GB model, no PS3 base unit can play PS2 games.

Only certain PS3 models can play PS2 games. However, for those who don't have PS2-compatible PS3s, I heard that there will be an update coming soon that will allow every PS3 to play PS2 games. I hope it will be compatible with MGS3.

I am pretty sure None can play ps2 unless you have an older model ps3. Which would be the 60g and all as mine is 60g and doesn't play them but mine is a newer one.

I very much doubt that tbh. Not as long as they sell the PS2 in big numbers. Also I even wonder if it's that easy.

Yeah, the PS3/PS2 compatibility issue was one thing, now PSPGO intimidates PSP users who have one of the 3 UMD models. It's been a nightmare.

Some sort of PS2 emulation should be coming some day since PS3 Slim (not sure about older versions) has internal PS2 memory card creation availability. Can't imagine why it would be there if they weren't planning to emulate PS2 games to PS3. I'm guessing they'll put downloadable PS2 releases if they're emulating them.

I never understood that either, you can make a ps2 memory card on all of the ps3 but you can't play ps2 on it unless it is an older model? I always thought they might making a firm updated that had a ps2 emulator on it or something.

Sony are villains I tell you! They just released the PS2 in Brasil. Yes the PS2. And it's more expensive then the PS3 here!!! It's selling for about 311 euro's, while in importshops you can buy one for less than 200.
What is wrong with them? I mean making money is okay, but Sony this is stealing.

In Sony's defense when they first started to manufacture the PS3 they were losing money per unit. In order for PS2 games to run properly they need the "emotion" chip included in the hardware. I can't blame Sony for wanting to cut costs since no company can sell a product that causes them to lose money. However, they should have projected most these problems to begin with. Yes the world would have moaned and groaned if they pushed back the PS3 date further, but the PS3 models should have consistent functionality and software emulation for PS2 games upon release (I think they will release the software emulation but it seems like they're having trouble figuring it out or something).

Another thing that Sony needs to get together in my opinion is the ability to play your music during gameplay. Even if it is up to the developer to incorporate this feature into the software, it doesn't seem like this feature is included their Kernel manual because no major titles have it. And I know they can frickin do it because my wife downloaded some Zen pinball game off the PS network and you can listen to your own music with it!

So there's my 2 cents.

Tekken 6 does it. But it's still rubbish because even when I turn the music volume down as far as I can and the game sound effects up as high as I can, I still can't hear the game. The music completely drowns out the game and doesn't work for online matches. I hope future games aren't affected like this. :hmm:

Yea Tekken 6 and DBZ: Raging Blast can, and a few other titles.. I guess their not major titles..

And I believe the reason that they didn't make it so all games can do that was something about the 360 owns rights to do that in all their games or something along that line. Plus I think if the company wanted to that could add it like they have with tekken 6 and the like.
