Hey guys, I LOVED, playing thourgh mgs1, 2, 3 and 4, I replayed the mall at least 6 times, finding jokes, easter eggs, funny codec moments, and simply enjoying the great visuals, story and gameplay. There are some things I cant undestand yet, and dissapointed me on MGS4 (I loved it anyway, my fav game so far): 1.- No codec moments? in mgs3, I had to call at least 10 times or so for a conversation to repeat, in MGS4 its like in MGS1, conversations repeat instantly, cmon! with bluray they should have been able to add a LOT of conversations. 2.- If one enemy spots you, everyone knows where you are already. Yes the SOP system explains why, BUT then, why do other enemies dont know where you are when you say "freeze" at them? or go infront of them and search for equipment? whouldnt the SOP alarm enemies of your position in those situations too?? 3.- Not so many details. I found a truck in act 1, shot it in the windows, and they did not break. Cmon! those kind of details had me all the time in the rest of the games, exploding fruits, breaking windows, wet clothes, lack of vision when losing your eye in mgs3, those kind of things, and that is not that present in mgs4, I shot the truck with an rpg and it didnt explode, dissapointing. And when you talk with the codec with Otacon when he does not have his glasses on, his anynmations are the same, and at one time he used his hand as if he was pushing his glasses back to their place, obviously without glasses on, those kind of things shouldnt happen in an MGS game! 4.- Snake's melee combo. It is sooo slowed down, looks terrible, I liked the fast punch-punch-kick combo. Ok that's pretty much it, thats what bothers me the most in the game, awesome game anyways, but those things were pretty much expected as an MGS fan, and were not there, specially the codec convesrations. |

To short, to little acts (I don't like the "act" thing either). WAY to many cut scenes with little to no action in between (Like an entire "act" is you sneaking about in the dark, I know it's an MGS game but come on). I know it's a Kojima specialty... but the amount of times a major swerve happened was just to predictable if that makes sense, every time something big happened you were WAITING for the next swerve to happen, that isn't a good sign. |

I agree with Niomi's story being pointless and making little sense. It seemed like something they coughed up to make the game seem longer. Also how Mei Ling goes from having an asian accent to an American one (I'm CERTAIN she did, or was it just me?) |

She was born and raised in America but had Chinese parents (or a Chinese parent) so it makes sense that she'd have an American accent rather than Chinese. |

I believe that the voices were ret-conned, and they just said "To hell with it, The Twin Snakes Mei Ling and Naomi is canon. |

Nobody can say it better, agree in every point, but you missed the OST sucks balls, kojima liked the idea of emotional bosses but what the hell? every boss is fucke'd off, i only don't agree with laughing octopus, it was a good change (terror style) but still it's fucke'd |

^ The soundtrack is OK, but MGS1 and 3 will always have the best soundtracks IMO. Anyway, my list of things I didn't like in MGS4: - The gameplay didn't seem like MGS. - Mei Ling and Naomi don't have their accents, so it's like Twin Snakes all over again. - The nanomachines stuff. (i.e. Vamp being immortal because of nanomachines. That's just stupid.) - "It rained on the day I was born." (worst line ever!) - Ed and Jonathan (two of the worst and most useless characters EVER!!!!) - Drebin - Act 3 - Act 5 was waaaaay too short. - Mission briefings. Were they really necessary? (but the scenes with Otacon and Sunny sure were cute though) - AkibaXMeryl - B&B Corps - All of the boss battles except for Snake vs. Ocelot. |

I remembered something else, Big Boss has a different voice than Snake, thats lame. Big Boss has the same voice in mgs3, and snake is old now, just as big boss, so if snake ahs the same voice, shouldnt big boss too?? o well... |

Nope, genetics don't determine what you sound like. If that were the case David Hayter would have voiced every Snake in the series. From the story POV it makes sense that Big Boss' 'elder' voice would sound different to Snake's because he has had the time for his voice to mature, Snake's voice maturation on the other hand is forced. The two characters also grew up in different circumstances. From another POV it would have been too confusing to hear Hayter voicing two different characters in the same scene, you wouldn't be able to tell who was speaking and when. Technically speaking Hayter should have never voiced Naked Snake, the only reason he did was because Hideo was afraid of another Raiden backlash. |

I've only played MGS3 and a bit of MGS1 but.. The new camo system was terrible and I hated the octocam, it made everything easy. Drebin points. Drebin. The 3 million weapons I picked up and never even used. Drebin. The points system. The B&B were bad, just.. bad. Extremely easy and boring. The mission briefings were really really boring as well. Drebin. Too short, it took me about 17 hours the first play through on Solid Normal. In MGS3 on "VERY EASY" it took me a whooping 25-30 hours to complete my first play through! Did I mention Drebin points? |

I didn't like how the gekko were sparse and wasn't as much of a challenge as Hideo hinted they would be. I mean I wanted to be blown out of the water like damn! I was supposed to hear sounds of cicadas chirping. Then boom, some 6 ton robot mofo with humanoid leg muscles comes out of no where to hunt my ass down. They also weren't integrated as much on the battlefield as I'd hope. I use to think that every time an alert occurred, sounds of cows from a distance and then the chirping of the cicadas followed by three, or four Gekko falling from the air. I also liked the idea that you simply just couldn't take one out... Liked you had to run for your life, avoid sentries, and try to make it to your goal in one go. That's really my only disappointment. The Gekko are kind of intimidating, but not nearly as much as I would have thought them to be.
Wait, I thought it was, to a degree. I mean of course you might not sound exactly like your father, because you get a different assortment of genes as well as genes from your mother (how the guy's sound on her side maybe). I think twins sound the same. Technically all the Snakes should sound the same, but you know this is the same guy that gave Liquid Ocelot, Liquid's voice in MGS2. Maybe just so we can better identify with them. I think environemntal factors also plays a role in how people who are related and are of the same sex, sounds. Accents, dialects, and what not could also play a factor. I know in the Japanese version, they used the same voice actor for Solidus and Solid Snake. Though, that probably doesn't prove anything... |

Twins sound the same because generally they grow up in the same household, in the same family and in the same circumstances. How your voice sounds has nothing to do with genetics, at least in my opinion. Taking myself for example. Seven years ago I had a broad Brooklynese accent, I sounded almost identical to my father and my two elder brothers. I had this accent because I was born and raised in a Irish-American family, lived in Brooklyn and most of my friends were fellow Brooklynites. Right now, while I've still got a recognizable American accent (I've been told I sound like the Joker in TDK, personally I think I sound more like E from Entourage), there are times when I slip into a British accent (Black Country to be exact). My genes have fuck all to do with that, I sometimes slip into BC because I've been living in the West Midlands for the last six-ish years. Your environment determines your voice, not your genes. The only way Solid and Naked Snake would sound the same is if Naked had raised him from a small child. He didn't. |

Heli is correct, accents and the way you speak aren't much determined by genes at all. I knew somebody who lived in CT his whole life, and when he joined the army he was in a platoon with a bunch of people from the south. He was so used to being around them all the time he now has an accent like he was born in Mississippi, and prior he had no trace of it. |

I thought both environmental and genetic factors played a role. When I said they should sound the same, I should have actually said they could have actually sounded similar. And I agree that the environment has an effect on how you sound. But I think genetics play a role too. Your statement can be applied to a lot of things, even twins's body types (one smokes and lays around, while the other works out and eats healthily [could be an example]. Yet having the same genes, they come out differently, yet look somewhat alike. Same concept could be applied to the voice I guess. I mean some people have naturally deep voices, while others have a bit of a higher tone. Edited by The Merciless Warrior, Jan 18 2010, 08:58 AM.

That's true, also, tone and pitch are more or less genetic (in some cases), but with a completely different accent, it's hard to assume similarities within that voice. I mean, Richard Doyle's voice, although obviously different to Hayters, does share a similar gruffness, and CAN be chalked up to his aging. I don't think it's a million miles off, but that's just my opinion. I think I agree with Heli, in the sense that Snake wasn't aged in the "normal" way, so I'm sure, scientifically, this wouldn't alter his voice in the same way as natural aging. Big Boss had a lifetime to age naturally and his voice would have adapted during those years (time spent being frozen in his Dr. Evil basket aside lol) but you're right, I think at some point, I thought the same thing when I heard Solidus and thought, why is it the OLDER snakes get your voice, Doyle? On a side note though, I'm a big fan of both voices. I think Doyle plays Big Boss masterfully, and Hayter is so suited to Snake. I wouldn't have it any other way
