Quick question I thought I'd put out there for debate; if Big Boss is to be proclaimed as an enemy of the state in PW, how is it that they'd allow him to command the most elite Special Forces unit in their military as we know he will leading up to the events of MG?

We know Big Boss secretly creates Outer Heaven at some point, but how is he planning on taking on a faction that is backed by the C.I.A. without giving away his identity?

Seems a bit of a hard sell for me, Koji-ol'buddy.

You know Kojima will come up with some crazy excuse with a huge twist where Big Boss triple crosses the CIA or something elaborate like that, then when the next big MG game comes out it'll get retconned into some other wild retelling that contradicts the first story. Huge Taradox Pime.

Or they won't explain it at all.

Regardless, I will enjoy it.

I guess the question falls a bit on the Peace Sentinels as well, if these guys are in fact CIA backed, or if they're another faction all together.

Because bare in mind, if MSF is the "bad guy" of PW, as far as America is concerned, then that would include Miller as well, and he was pretty much on the same boat as Big Boss, making an enemy of the U.S., but yet still, he ends up an advisor and trainer to U.S. Special Forces, *IE Solid Snake and Foxhound.* Obviously he's not the direct face of the enemy like Big Boss is, but I imagine if they were to maintain running down the road as enemy of the nation, they'd both be up the same road.

Unfortunately there isn't much to really base a legit opinion on since there isn't enough known about what the PS' intentions are, if maybe towards the end, Coldman went over the line and went against the U.S.'s wishes, and even though BB saved the day and took him down, making him, at the very least, "reliable" to the U.S., that essence of what they drove BB to would still be with him, and thus his hatred towards the United States would still be in tact and he could still be trust worthy to Foxhound as a special forces unit, as well as retaining that ever growing evil brewing within him, enough to start the uprising of Outer Heaven.

Still, I can't say anything with certainty until the game is out.

Maybe they don't know BB is the head of MSF. Or maybe they do but BB ends up framing someone else for it and then creates Fox Hound while secretly managing Outer Heaven.

You think this is a headache? Wait until you remember that FOXHOUND was set up at the end of Portable Ops.

Basically I think we'll see some kind of 'reunion' between Zero and Big Boss, a Cold War that will last until the early '90's when Big Boss finally enacts his Super Evil PlanTM (Outer Heaven).

I don't think it's too hard to believe. Big Boss makes FOXHOUND with the help of Zero and Ocelot (because ocelot wanted BB to join the patriots) so he is in a way working for them. He obviously doesn't like them at this point, especially when he finds out zero is the mastermind and clones him a few times. He was working both sides from the very beginning, in Metal Gear, so it's not like its a surprise, and definitely not a retcon.

So long as Big Boss keeps his identity as the MSF leader hidden it's fine. And I think the end and beginning of this trailer sum what he is doing up.

So he's just commanding Foxhound from Costa Rica under their nose?
It doesn't add up.

Oh for god's sake!
He's able to run BOTH MSF/Outer Heaven and FOX HOUND at the same time! He kept his involvement with MSF/Outer Heaven a secret!
Why is this so hard to comprehend?!

Don't blow your wad, young man.

A better question would be; Why is it so hard for you to comprehend that it seems a tad odd that he's running MSF/OH from Costa Rica while commanding a U.S. Special Forces unit, based in The United States?

Is Big Boss relying on teleportation these days?

It's called a "radio." And a "cover."

Big Boss in the original Metal Gear was able to run Outer Heaven in AFRICA, and FOX HOUND in THE UNITED STATES! No one complained then!

Still getting a bit excited I see.
I mean, no way has Koji ever retconned anything before, right?

Yeah, I guess that's a good bullshit tactic to makeup for severe inconsistencies within the timeline, almost as bad as attributing every unexplained event to nanomachines.

I guess if it's good enough for Koji, it's more than good enough for you.

I was able to grasp your point, I just thought it was invalid and not worth pointing out in specific, as it was previously addressed by my shorter, more concise point to the earlier part of your post.

MG came out way before Kojima put any thought into the series and it is practical to think of one keeping their cover in that regard if they are actually present with the unit they are pretending to be in command of.

In this case, he's living and training men in Costa Rica, which is hardly a convincing cover to supposedly be commanding Foxhound. If you can't see this, I'm sorry.

Let's face it, Kojima's never been one for tight consistency. As to why nobody complained about that in Metal Gear, I'd guess it's because story wasn't as big of a deal in videogames as it is now, also because idiots write Metal Gear off because it's old. Because, y'know Metal Gear Solid was released yesterday.

For me, the whole matter is a mess. One that I would like to see explained, not just ignored or explained away with a convenient deus ex machina (like radio's, or those pesky nanomachines).

I'm sure kojima will come up with some reason to explain it. Maybe there's some sort of double agent thing going on like someone mentioned earlier. If you wanna go by what happened in MG than that seems logical; emphasis on story is different now than it was back then so once again, who knows
