US, May 7, 2010 - Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker appears to be of to a great start on Hideo Kojima's home turf. Media Create's sales charts, covering April 26 through May 2, put the PSP title's first week sales at 434,000 units. This is just shy of MGS4's 464,926 unit debut from 2008.

Peace Walker caused a sales surge for the PSP. While Sony's portable hardware is pretty consistent in topping the charts in Japan, it did so with authority this week, outselling second place PS3 nearly two to one.

Despite its huge numbers, Peace Walker wasn't the number one selling game for the week. That honor went to Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2. At over 600,000 units, the Square Enix DS sequel outperformed its predecessor, which sold 594,000 units in its first week back in December 2006.

Hah, read this on Kotaku I think last week.

It's pretty good, consider the console it's on, plus the fact that Kojima has said his target audience consists mainly of adolescents and being released in the same week as a game in another popular series.

You knew the sales of the game for a full week even though it would've only been out for a day?

I want your superhero power.

Soldier without borders.
It still sold pretty damn well, and it's going to keep selling well over in Japan. Just because another game beat it, doesn't mean PW didn't do well. It did extremely well. 430,000 + is excellent for a first week for a handheld.
Spoiler: click to toggle
