I heard that the story in PW doesn't contradict MPO in any way, so I think it depends on how you view it. MPO was listed on an MGS timeline Konami issued, though, so I'm not quite sure .

Let's say I don't give a shit about what is official canon and just want MPO out. Is it ignored enough for me to PRETEND it never happened (even though, OFFICIALLY, it did)? Again, no Weedle. Also, Granin, Monster Hunter is shit. Don't even debate it. They're terrible, terrible games.

for me, as long as the story is engaging as always, the characters are good an the gameplay is great, i wont mind. I liked MPO, nd didnt mind much for the 'retcon' of grey fox, there are few series that have created as vast a mythology as MGS, i kinda think the series was lacking continuity for a while now. Peace Walker could change that now what with prehaps an 'evil' Big Boss emerging, or the psychological effects Snake Eater had on him, which hasnt been really explored before. |

How many of those millions live in Japan/wished they lived in Japan? ![]() This is fantastic news! Now I can play all the Metal Gear games in PEACE (lol pun), fully knowing that Sokolov is still dead and Gray Fox was never an angsty teenaged emo ninja.

When I played MPO (which was my first MGS ever), I liked the storyline, though I didn't understand what the hell was the Philosopher's Legacy nor knew much about the Boss' will and stuff. Now that I've played the rest of the games, I still think it's a cool story. It's just that as a continuation to the whole saga it doesn't quite fit in. Like the fact that BB's Outer Heaven was funded by Gene's secret funds for Army's Heaven. Gene was not a present guy in the rest of the series nor was he mentioned, so giving him, a guy we just met, the credit for funding Outer Heaven seems like a rushed job. But he still serves as a nice contrast for the games after MPO: Big Boss spends the entire game trying to stop something he will eventually create, too. I see MPO as a side-story. It's story may be true, but if you ignore it it won't make that much of a difference (except for Grey Fox's past). MPW is hopefully not a side-story, right ?

This game needs online. I know the Jap version doesn't have it, but what about the NA version? They've added stuff to the US version of MGS games before, like in MGS1 where they added Very Easy difficulty and the tuxedo bonus. Do you agree? Also, I've seen that the multiplayer has Spoiler: click to toggle

I know it's been said a million times before, but I just hope that Kojima's next project after "Rising" is a remake of MG1 and MG2. I refuse to accept all of these retcons (especially BB's new Metal Gear you can build) until Kojima makes a new game acknowledging them. |

MG2 says Fox's past was after the Vietnam war, where he was placed in a work camp for anyone Vietnamese or Caucasian. Afterwards Big Boss saved him "from that hell". MPO says he has always been a crazy maniac manipulated by others and has always been a ninja-wannabe. Edited by elmanmasraro, May 20 2010, 07:55:47 PM.

Now that I've replayed MPO, I noticed something. It's the first game in the series that establishes Ocelot and Zero as the founders of the Patriots (remember the after credits sequence?). So this game actually served an important purpose in the series; that is, until MGS4 appeared to clarify everything . |

Yeah, like Syphon Filter was a stealth game, right? And by stealth, I mean guards having no noticable tracking patter, and able to see you from a football field away. From what I played, shooting is the only way to get through the game. Edited by JohnKiller118, May 25 2010, 01:24:29 PM.

Killing people is a part of stealth, you want to get past areas undetected, and in doing so, you always have to shimmy by walls, used silenced weapons to kill enemies and often times, use darts and time detonation just right to gas more than one badguy. You can shoot a man with a dart, and leave it on him til he walks past another guy, then gas them both. You can slowly sneak up to someone and either break their neck or stick a knife down their throat. It's fluid, more so than any PSP game so far, which is what made it work so well and is what makes it hard to top. |

There are plenty of conventions of stealth, stealth bypass, and stealth elimination, whichever one plays out in a more enjoyable fashion is up to the gamer. Killing people without being spotted is one way, getting around them or distracting them is another, it's not one or the other as you so bluntly put it. PW seems to have plenty of means according to the review to do either or, I'm simply stating that stealth elimination played out VERY well for Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and even more so in SF: Logans Shadow, which is what made it such a fun game and what makes sticking true to the enjoyment level of that realm of stealth hard to top, MPO couldn't do that, but I'd say upon watching this review and some of the trailers, that PW has a chance at reaching that level as well, or as the review revealed as far as mechanics go, surpassing it. We saw a lot of gadgets, and a lot of ways to take enemies down or get around them, even more so than MGS4's auto-stealth Octo-Camo. In fact I would actually ask Radical Dreamer, having played and comprehended PW enough to make this review, how would you say it fairs as far as sticking to stealth and bypassing enemies, not just as an MGS game, but a stealth based game in general?
