Hi guys, I am wondering if peace walker is a good metal gear game.

Does it deliver the same awesome story as other MG games deliver?

Also, how long is it (counting cut-scenes, I am in a rare minorty that likes MGS cut scenes).

Thanks.

It's pretty decent, but grinding for weapons level ups and develop new shit by finding confidential documents in the woods is friggin' retarded.

Grinding for Level ups, was that really necessary? I never did it. In fact, all the grinding I did was because I was busting my ass to get the parts for Zeke and I by that, mean the memory boards you pull, not the Body Parts.

I really didn't mind all that. It was kinda cool that the unmanned's were singing, " Sing".

" La la-la la-la-la."

Peace...

I think its a good MG game,
But it can never be as good as PS 1,2,3 MG's.
It's a smaller consolle so they have to make concesions in the game.
A longer game with terrible graphics.
Or a shorter game with better graphics.
But it's a least 10 times better then portable ops, that's for sure.

It's a "real" MGS game insofar as it tells a part of the ongoing canonical MGS series. The quality of the story is up to you to decide, I personally found it rather refreshing after the clusterfuck of MGS4 but still not as good as the fifth and sixth generation games.

It's also a very good action game too, so if you do have a PSP and want to play a good game then I recommend it.

I bought a PSP just for this game. I do not regret it. I would do it again, even.

Im guessing you didn't like MGS4, Haha.
What didn't you like about it?
I personally loved it, customising weapons was great, I also really liked the aiming...I couldn't find anything bad about that game tbh.

MGS4 story generally isn't considered to fit into series canon coherantly by long time fans.

People mostly hate it for story reasons. PW is much worse than MGS4 though.

for story reasons? i thought it had to do with it being more action oriented which doesn't make much sense because you usually have those times in mgs where you shoot everyone to advance and there's always a chase accept for mgs2. is it because of things like big boss not actually being dead? mgs4's conclusion made a lot of sense. i don't get other mgs fans sometimes.

LOL It's a lot more than just Big Boss coming back. So many retcons and stuff I don't know where to start. I think that fact that it's more action oriented isn't near as much of a problem for fans as the story. I actually don't see anything wrong with MGS4's stealth. Anyway this is a discussion for the MGS4 section, we're going off topic here.

So yeah PW is the worst MGS game I've played. One point I'll directly answer this thread with as being an issue about it being a "real" Metal Gear game or not is that for me the MGS experience is supposed to be a continuous story/mission where you adjust your equipment where you see fit (rather than the game giving you specific opportunities to change your gear). In PW the fact that it's split up into "missions" and you have to keep going to a main menu to manage everything takes away from that. These intermissions feel more like a disturbance in the game to me, like they disrupt the game's flow.

Oh yeah and no human bosses. That is a MAJOR let down for a MGS game.

Ah, I personally really liked the intermissions, without the intermissions there wouldn't be any place for Extra Ops surely?

Also I really liked managing the staff, sending them on the Outer Ops and messing about on the R&D bit.

Wouldnt you count the Vehicle battles as human bosses?
I know you'd think "vehicle battles" speaks for itself but in all fairness if your trying to capture the vehicle you dont really damage it as much as the other bosses, you have to attack the guards and then attack the captain who has a life bar, no matter how easy he is, surely he would be counted as a sub boss atleast?

Peace walker is my favourite psp game, amazing graphics (as usual from koj productions), psm3 magasine even say it is one the best metal gear solid titles, i wouldn't go that far, i'd say it falls short of the four console games, but peace walker is so different to the main games that this doesn't matter, it has been designed for psp wonderfully including generally more gameplay than other installments and rpg-esk elements, so yeah although not as masterful as mgs1-4, still a fantastic entry to the series.

I wouldn't miss the extra ops if they weren't in it at all tbh.

I liked managing the staff too, but sending them on missions was a pain.

No. The soldiers are as much of a boss as the Ocelot unit were at the start of MGS3, in other words; not a boss. Come on you know what I mean by human bosses. A team of powerful/skilled soldiers with unique abilities that you have to take out one by one throughout the story. Not some soldiers that pop up with a vehicle every now and then along with 5 battles against varying Metal Gear type things from the year 2055.
