So I've been wanting to get really toned for the past 5 years and I am finally doing it. I am on my way to reaching my goal. I have been hitting the gym often and when I can't fit in time to make a trip I do exercises at my apartment. So recently I've had issues with good foods to eat since eating health while in college is quite a challenge, but since my family back at my house has become 90% vegan they have introduced me to these amazing foods that I always thought would taste like shit. Later, I figured to speed up my work out results which meant changing my diet. I'd want to eat better quality food so I gave this vegan stuff a try. I've been eating tofu instead of meats and I switched from cow milk to almond milk after learning how cow milk doesn't have any health benefits really. That whole "milk makes your bones strong" is actually a myth. So, now starting today I'm going to eat about 90% vegan. I might only eat a meat maybe like twice a week or something and the same goes for anything dairy too. I must say that eating vegan food doesn't make me feel that I gained weight or anything and it passes through the body easily too so I don't upset my stomach. It's really nice. But anyway I was wondering if anyone here is on the same boat as I am. Not just going vegan or vegetarian but working out too. Discuss. |

I was in the same boat. Last year I became about 80-90% vegan, that was a good experience. I couldn't take it longer because of low variety of vegan culinary here (and I have no intention of buying imported vegan food). Also, they told me my blood type doesn't fit vegetarianism. That's type O. In the university I study at, the restaurant has a ovo-lacto-vegetarian line. I eat in this line everyday, so I become about 50% ovo-lacto-vegan. The truth behind that behavior is that I hate bacon, dislike chicken and have no attraction to beef. My health is a secondary factor. |

well when i say speeding the food is eat is all organic and there's much less fat. I just had vegan pizza a few days ago. that doesn't have as nearly as much fat as regular pizza. Tofu fucking rocks as a meat substitute. |

If you're looking to bulk up then cow's milk IS the way to go. I've switched to Soy Milk recently purely because it has less calories (cutting) and it tastes pretty. Quorn sausages and 'chicken' aren't too shabby. But i have no reason to try the rest, happy with my diet and how it's going. |

We have arrived.
|
I used to be a vegetarian when I was younger but eventually left the habit once I first tasted meat, but in the past few months I have started eating a lot more vegetarian foods again and have cut down on meats. I find vegetarian foods are a lot cleaner and less greasy and have less calories and whatnot (and as you say they're not bad on the stomach at all) and much prefer it this way. Not that I'm completely vegetarian, I still eat chicken and other meats every now and again but much less than I used to. Doubt I'd ever go vegan though, like Wayno says about himself I'm the same and am more than happy that I've cut out eating any fried foods, have cut down a lot on meat and am eating food that I find is a lot better for me. The only problem with my diet is snacks and junk food (which I have cut down on aswell since I'm in college too, although I don't eat anything else in place of it) but that's just an issue of willpower really. Haven't been in the gym at all the last 2 months though so I can't say how much of an effect this change in diet actually has on my energy levels and whatnot but I doubt it will change much. |

For bulking up yes it is. It's proven. Look up GOMAD. You can't do that with almond milk. Edited by Wayno, Oct 4 2011, 04:53:07 PM.

It's basically an easy (not that I've tried) way of getting a high amount of calories and protein in to the diet. I think it's whole milk based on calorie amount. Cow's milk does have a pretty good protein to calorie ratio, contains fat (which we do need in our diets seeing as some people think fat from good goes straight on to body, idiots) and let's face it it's cheap. I suppose you could do it with skimmed / semi skimmed milk, just sub in the calories lost through other food. It's not meant to be a permanent dietary change, though. Like I said, bulk / weight gain. I may try it when I've finished trying to cut so I'll be sticking with Soy for now. Edited by Wayno, Oct 4 2011, 05:32:02 PM.

tofu and fake meat is good, but you just got to remember to eat plenty of that green stuff too. Brown rice, beans, and nuts/legumes also. When I first went vegetarian I initially gained a few pounds because I was eating two veggie burgers like almost every day. As a vegan nowadays I'll usually only eat any kind of fake meat or cheese substitutes once or twice a week. I have no interest in eating more of it. I get all the protein I need from vegetables and peanut butter. Then again I don't work out so i guess if you work out regularly you might need more than that. And it is pretty understandable for someone making the transition to have a lot of that stuff. You should keep experimenting with different things until you find all your staples. Fortunately, you don't need to be a great cook to be a vegan since you can just eat all vegetables raw. Tofu is the only common thing I can think of that is hard to prepare. I usually only have it at restaraunts. As for the whole vegan/working out thing, it's easily done, contarary to what the pro-meat/dairy industry propaganda—that is constantly jammed down everyone's throats—would have you believe. Tony Gonzalez, a professional american football player who is arguably the best of all time at his position is vegan. So is Germany's strongest man er look it up though I forget his name. and almond milk ftw. though i hear hemp milk is good too. |

Can't say I've heard this since 4th grade...
His english is good for someone who's first language isn't english, but come on, lets be realistic, it isn't flawless, and it really shouldn't be, So your comments are either: Sarcasm, Condescension, or Idiocy. I'm assuming it's all of them together. Yet again your rampant ignorance is leading you to false conclusions. I don't use words to impress people on the internet, I use them to convey ideas in an easier manner. Honestly, I shouldn't have to defend myself against such a stupid accusation. I'm not trying to make you look like an asshole, (I don't think you need my help) I'm merely calling you on your bullshit. If you're going to get mad when people point out you're making an ass out of yourself, just don't make an ass out of yourself all the time. @Topic. I honestly believe you shouldn't go Vegan/Vegetarian for nutritional reasons. For Nutritional reasons, I would try to follow a Mediterranean Style Diet. |

I think we must not confuse english as a language, a code, with an entire culture, jokes, et cetera. @Hank: Take it easy, our words aren't filled with sarcasm and jokes, we just type what we think, using this code to express our ideas... Of course our posts aren't great stuff to spent hours laughing at, neither do great job at making fun of other user's... But could you please respect us both? Actually I really think Sera's is being sincere at his post, and you, like you just said, "came from nowhere", talking about an "obvious sarcasm" we never thought about it. @topic: Tollhouse, sorry for flaming your topic. |
