What's a good book that is very suspenseful but takes place in a confined space for the majority of the time? The best example I can think of that fits this is the movie The Phone Booth... For almost the whole film, the guy is inside a phone booth with a sniper threatening to kill him if he doesn't do what he says, but it gets so intense... Is there anything like that but in book form that's better than Standoff by Sandra Brown (Most of this book takes place in a convenience store that was held up. It later turns into a hostage situation)?I read it but it was kind of meh. Its a fast moving book and I liked it enough to finish it but I didn't love the characters and I doubt I'd read it again... |

The closest example I can recall is Stephen King's The Mist. It's not quite as confined as a phone booth, but it takes place mostly in a grocery store, and it has a pretty terrifying atmosphere. I might add that it's actually a novella that was originally part of the collection The Skeleton Crew, I'm not sure if there's a standalone edition. It was made into a movie so I'd assume there's a standalone version. Edited by Fear, May 25 2013, 05:56:16 PM.

You may be interested in Nothing Lasts Forever. It's the book that the film Die Hard was based off. |

Or Misery by Stephen King lol, getting trapped in a house by a crazy obsessive psycho killer chick. Plus it's a cute story, so why not?

Good call! I honestly haven't read that one yet, I've read a good chunk of his major novels but haven't gotten around to a few of them. |

If I tried reading that, I wouldn't be able to keep myself from laughing because of the family guy spoof of it.

I was going to suggest Misery... Totally thought I already posted in this thread. Love that book. The Family Guy parody is cool but too short, they could have done so much more. And then ends with ANOTHER Shawshank parody... |

Wouldn't The Shining also kinda be one? Whole thing takes place in/around the hotel. Not too confined but that is a theme... |
