Dito, i highly doubt that human relationships are "designed" (or evolved whichever you like) to be monogamous, most primate relationships aren't. if you love a person, live with them. if you find yourself not loving each other like you used to try and make it work, but if it just doesn't then it's probably time to find someone else. Why commit yourself to a relationship that neither of you care for anymore? It makes no sense. Anyway, gay marriage is great, more freedoms & more liberties = more happiness. I'm all for that. |

Yeah it's more a bi-product of religion, and a convenient paradigm for parents and kids I guess Frankly though I think having two parents who obviously don't love each other anymore and being stuck around that is the most unhealthy thing to be exposed to |

Marriage was/is about ownership. Land, livestock, currency, agreements etc in exchange for a woman who is legally bound to her purchaser with little to no rights. |

I've seen this a lot lately (including in my own family) and have had the same thoughts for a while. Convenience seems to be one of the best reasoning for marriage from what I've seen and it's pretty terrible that people feel a "need" to do it for the sake of societal need or advancement. |

And for thousands of years before across the world in varying cultures, sons are useful. There may be no bartering involved any more but only in the past century(and that's being generous) has the ownership part started to give way. but hey, asking the potential brides father is 'tradition' isn't equating to asking how much it'll cost to have her. It's an archaic contractual agreement that has been hijacked by religious organisations for various reasons that are still in effect today. Any notion that this outdated practice is fit for purpose is delusional. But in order to define and pride profess our love o it has to be proven in a legally binding document, right? |

Hey. You turned left.
|
This really. To me, it feels signing a death sentence; from this day forth, I sacrifice all individual freedom in return for a shared existence. It's like there's no "I" any more, it's all about "we". Scary shit. In be4: "Oh, you clearly haven't been in love before." You're right, I haven't. But if I did, I wouldn't need to put that on a piece of paper. |

Marriage is basically a more polite way of saying, "The only way you're ever leaving me is by getting the law involved, sucker." |

All a bit Debbie downer on the whole love thing in here. It's very possible you'll all find someone you really love and they love you back and genuinely want nothing more than to commit to spend the rest of your lives together in happiness. The problem is marriage isn't necessary for that to be possible and the assumption that those conditions will remain permanent until your death is a long shot |

Hey, there are people out there that do seem like they were made for each other. I came across a married couple a few days ago, they have great grand kids and yet they seemed just as in love and intouch with eachother like a young couple, hell even more so than most I know. Marriage isn't for everyone but sometimes it is very heart warming to see the successful ones. IMO you have to live with someone close to a decade before you should consider marriage, learn all the quirks and bad habits, the in and outs. I'm happy gay folk finally have this, starts us on the part of being a more accepting community. |
