I hope you meant "I hope PO is canon." because it wouldn't make sense for Gene to appear if it wasn't canon because Gene wouldn't exist. |

Thanks, buddy. This game looks incredible, albeit strange compared to other MGS games. Hopefully, it's good. Edited by Sundown, Jun 10 2013, 09:24:48 PM.

Gene as a character is of great importance to Snake at that moment in time. Taking him out from there and moving him along the time line and the personal progression Snake / Big Boss has made since is what makes no sense. |

But it's never referenced, which is why the whole PO canon is debated. If this is the game where Snake becomes the Evil Big Boss wouldn't make more sense for a charismatic character such as Gene to put on that type of influence on him? It doesn't seem like there was much of an influence on him after PO, Big Boss seemed downright heroic in PW. |

I have to say - I am thrilled at the possibility of Liquid appearing. I think it's him, and I am hopeful that this means that Kojima shared the same idea as myself. Namely, that the game should show Big Boss interact with all three of his sons, his increasing derangement producing increasingly bad results when he tries to play the father. Solid becomes a perfect soldier, but apathetic and unhappy. Solidus becomes heroic and idealistic, but brutal. Liquid is charismatic but scarred by misanthropy and insecurity. Honestly, it seems like such a natural idea - such an incredibly dramatic part of his story - that if it's not what's going to happen, there's little that will make me want to pick this up. |

The influence doesn't come from the game it comes by how the follow up is done. Just because Peace Walker doesn't aknowledge anything from PO doesn't mean anything. Why would Snake need to be charismatic now when he's already recruited an army in two games before it? The one fleeting moment of charisma in MPO was done far better than the whine fest in PW. |

Code Talker must be the character who is over a hundred years old that Kojima was talking about. Any ideas on his significance, in terms of name, role and his "Homeland"? |

Says right at the start when talking to Ocelot he has to rebuild his army again....for a third time. It's pretty ridiculous he has to build up 3 separate armies across the lore. And I was talking about Gene being the charismatic influence on Big Boss, you know that transformation into Evil Big Boss I was yammering about? Gene had some psychological powers in PO, so I could see him being that big influence on Big Boss's troubled mind causing those hullicinations, making him question his morallity and blah blah blah....I'm not a storywriter you can obviously see. Why take PO out of canon though you ask? It would be ridiculous bringing Gene back after it's heavily implied he died at the end of PO, definitely don't want another Sokolov switch-a-roo. |

Native American character who conforms to the racial stereotype of them as shamanistic 'noble savages'. Honestly, that's what I immediately thought. I hope Kojima doesn't go that way, but it didn't look too promising. |

He's most likely a Navajo, Choktaw, Cherokee or Commanche Indian since they were used as Code talkers in WW1 and WW2 that's for sure His name also suggest this pretty obviously They got nothing for doing a service for their country, mostly cause racism was running rampant at the era. I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet. Although it's common sense those enemies were Soviets, I've yet to see anyone mention the Afghanistan-Soviet war. Someone made a Rambo III reference, though. This alone, interests me. For this game, we'll have formidable/interesting enemies. This time around, "Punished" Snake must be fighting Operation Snake Eater's GRU member's sons. Neat thought. The game will probably be all over the place like MGS4, though.

That one guy snake shoots had a blue striped shirt, soviet army used shirts like that. So it's very likely it's the afghan war. Shirt is called Telnyashka. ![]() GRU wore light blue stripped shirts Edited by Vashyo, Jun 10 2013, 10:06:13 PM.

Actually, I mentioned that I believed Quiet was disfigured by the Afghan Mujahideen. Having her tongue ripped out for some religiously-charged offence. Or, given the shift in her eyes, she was deemed a witch or a demon and mutilated due to that. Her lack of clothing in such a religiously conservative, misogynistic setting indicates that she dresses that way to spite those who wronged her. Flaunting the femininity that they punished her for. Either that, or Kojima's really going after the 13 year old Kleenex demographic. |

Yes it is ridiculous. But after doing it twice, he should have it down by now. Especially when the first time he technically recruited them from someone who was essentially 'designed' to be the ultimate battlefield commander. The man who could reach in to the hearts of men and inspire. This was one of the things that should not have been ignored by Peace Walker. The fact he goes in, behind enemy lines and wins the loyalty of soldiers from another country is how he should have started his mercenary nation. It was done in MPO and done well with a good character. Just because it was never followed up in Peace Walker doesn't mean we should scratch it, cherry pick a character we like and place it somewhere more convenient. It doesn't work like that. It was 'heavily implied' that Gray Fox and Big Boss were also dead and they turned out the way they did. Also Kojima did tweet about bringing someone back from the dead as well. |
