So for those of you not in the UK, the Police specials are part time constables who volunteer as officers in part time with the same power and equipment as full police officers, I might be getting a proper job soon but still considering it, the thought excites yet scares me at the same time. |

Would hate to be apart of the police in any way shape or form. They are a necessary evil by why would you want to be apart of it? |

They're not all bad, I want to do something fulfilling and I have a strong contempt for crime and think it would help grow me as a person. |

The problem with police is that most of them do join up because they "have a strong contempt for crime", as you put it. Doesn't everyone though? Well, most police officers feel particularly strongly about it and I would argue that that's dangerous. Before long they can start to take crimes personally, doesn't always happen but I've seen it first hand, police who do nothing in their spare time but moan about the crimes that are being reported on in the papers and on the news, you think that doesn't affect their judgement at work? Of course it does, we all have experiences with police who seemed unnecessarily aggressive and angry. Honestly I'd like to see more police officers who don't really care about crime either way, just ordinary people who do what the job description expects of them. Ideally I think police should serve a much wider purpose. On a trip to Belarus a number of years ago I saw a mixed group of police officers and soldiers cleaning up a public park. A bizarre sight, but very cool, much better than just walking around looking hard. Last thing we need in this country is more Judge Dredds walking around. Anyway I'm really sorry for the slightly off-topic rant. I'll close by saying that if you really want to be a nipple head then I wish you the very best of luck. |

The problem with Police now a days is people go in expect to be busting down doors and shooting down criminals, when you realize police work is alot of paper work. We can see this in that one incident one year ago, in which a police man shot a man with a shotgun just because he was late to open the door or something. And as OJ said, the can start to take crimes a little bit more personally than usual. Which can lead to it's own set of problems with increased aggression or anger. But I guess if you want to, go for it. It won't harm anyone I guess, and maybe you will help people feel a little...safer, a bit more optimistic.

In this country, there was incident during early 80s where man barricaded himself and his family to his apartment and appearently made threat to kill them - don't know exactly how police got involved. But long story short - as the police were moving in on the apartment, they had guy with shotgun with them and accidentally shot and killed the suspect with that shotgun when he was ready to surrender. That's why it was abolished from police arsenal in this country or so the story goes, don't know if it's just another urban legend or true - plausible anyway. I don't know exactly how bad the situation is in OP country but what I've heard, there's lot more situations that needs police than around here - so if you want to do it, nothing can stop you. |
