This may sound stupid, but it's been a thing on my mind for quite some time and I really wanted to discuss it. I felt like the Off-Topic thread was the most suitable. Before I begin to write this, no, it's not from anime, videogames or any of that stuff. I'm an avid fan of martial arts and practice some styles myself, and by that I mean minor ones that don't have that much of a spiritual background to them, not that I know of anyway. I've been reading about Ki, Chi, or Kai, or just life force I guess It's a huge belief in martial arts. They say if you meditate you can focus it, and direct it to parts in your body. People are said to have an invisible third eye which grants spiritual sensitivity or something, and they can direct it to parts of their bodies. In China, I've read documents, first-hand experiences (Like, American Shaolin by Matthew Polly) and documentaries/videos about them able to withstand high amounts of pain and produce a lot of stronger attacks which they claim is from Ki. Some masters and other Ki practicioners, those who claim to use telekensis and all that claim they can fire waves out of their hands like Dragon Ball or something. I know it could be the dynamics, and physics explanations too or simple disbelief but maybe that goes hand-in-hand? It's not only that, but then other people have strange 'six-senses'. My great grandmother, and my grandmothers nurse was said to have been able to see spirits for example. Maybe I just believe all this stuff blindly, or something. But I really wanted help and a few questions answered. What do you guys think? And if you've seen something like this before? |

I don't believe any of this, no. Mind is a very powerful tool and without a doubt a very dangerous weapon, but that's a given without involving any of these spirits, life-forces with a fancy name or even calling it a sixth sense. I'm martial artist myself. I can't speak for other people, but I don't meditate, I don't spend my time trying to focus my energies to walk on nails barefoot, I am firm believer in 100% scientific approach. And it works. People come to me not because I'm spiritually gifted, but because I know my shit around human body, have the means to prove it and capable of teaching this to others that will achieve positive results upon following my instructions. Bruce Lee's one-inch-punch for example, while seeming to defy the laws of physics, isn't about harnessing any sort of energy, it's about pure knowledge of human anatomy. Eugene Sandow was able to raise his entire bodyweight on a bar with single finger. Do you know the blind boy who ticked his tongue to emit ultra-sound waves that bounced back from his surroundings so clearly he was able to do extraordinary things like riding bike in dense traffic or play sports with kids who could see perfectly? No magic here either, just pure adaptability of human body to the handicap. Human body and mind are capable of constant adaptations and improvements, and supernatural has no part in any of this. In our bodies and our heads we carry more potential than we are capable developing in a lifetime. Thus, facts, science, consistency and hard work is the only sixth sense I believe in. But even so, if believing any of this makes you happy, then by all means do it. When you tell yourself something is or isn't true, you're right either way.
