Title. Might seem little crazy that a videogame can do this completely (NOT my case, I work in an office lol), but I think that in some point in my young years, just like many hollywood movies, metal gear games have kinda sold me the idea of how "cool" a job can be the security sector (military, law enforcement, etc). Of course, thinking this is EVEN after reaching madurity and understanding that there is nothing pretty in war, very different from a videogame or a movie. But still, we know this can't be soooo abnormal considering there are lots of people (americans, specially) who just love guns and high-risk jobs, in which case we can conclude that it is obvous this is hollywood fault in part, lol.

Do you consider yourself attracted in any way for working in the security sector? Or do you think it is stupid to even think about this and we are just being victims of BS marketing?

That would be a bit backwards, no? especially when the games make it a highlight that war is not a pretty thing. I can imagine MGS influencing you, or media in general, just not in this way. If somebody joins law enforcement, he does not go ''lol mgs made it kewl'' or the army, they join them because they want to serve their country, or because they have an undying sense of justice, etc. It could make you interested in the prospect, for example if you watched RoboCop you might be interested in police, but probably not why you chose it.

Thats what I was talking about, just being "interested". I'm not a cop or a soldier (never choose to be any of those when I turned 18), as I said I work in an office.

The series didn't influence me in that way at all. MGS2 did influence me by kinda teaching me the importance of passing down my knowledge, experiences and memories, as lame as that sounds.

Kinda solidified/influenced my complete disinterest/hatred or ambivalence towards politics I suppose, on a subconscious level.

Obviously yeah, I can speak for alot of people when I see I tried to learn more about this kind of stuff because of media and what not, but I never went ''yeaaah..i'm joining the army'' or something because of it. I don't think it's stupid for a piece of media to influence you though, it's no different than your parents influencing you into picking a job, etc. For example, i'v taken an interest in human biology after getting into the cyberpunk genre with stuff like Deus Ex/Ghost in the Shell, etc.

well games in general played a significant role in me taking my future career choice(programming)and mgs is no exception.other than that, maybe it influenced my personality to a certain degree,as ive been playing it regularly since i was a kid, along with games like crash bandicoot and FF.and i agree that theres nothing wrong with this, its no different than kids who say they grew up watching cartoons and became influenced by manny heroic characters,TV has been a major influence in people lives for a long time now.

or can you actually say that disney shows, dbz and pokemon didnt affect your childhood with a straight face?

That Place In The Roche
The division of chapters from Metal Gear Solids 2&3 (the short prologue type first part, and longer second part) generally influenced my style of writing stories. Of course I use two equal parts, because I'm a symmetry hound.

It also helped influence a general use of the father and son aspect that some of my stories have, though that can also be traced back to some issues I had with my father. Also, I also sometimes apply the feeling of being "used" to some of my protagonists, of course not by an enigmatic entity, but more or less by some scary superior of theirs.

The Act structure from Guns of The Patriots (which is lifted from Shakespeare, quite obviously) got me writing in Acts for my longest story, though of course I have six Acts (excluding a prologue and epilogue) because symmetry, and I'm generally pleased with how that's turning out.

So yes, I have been influenced by Metal Gear to some degree.

The series as a whole (mainly Snake's struggle in his life) influenced my story writing very much. The general theme that inspired me was war but I threw in many fantasy elements, because it makes a story more interesting to write/read, I think :)

Metal Gear influenced me to create a team of highly skilled soldiers, build the worlds first tank that can fire a nuke anywhere and blow up a science lab.
