Agriculture uses them to kill other pests and wasps themselves have little to no interest in the crops themselves. But wasps themselves are actually pests to most. If you kill a bee it releases a pheromone that calls other nearby to attack. True for several species I believe. You may be thinking of the Africanized or "killer" bees.
