Bought a new copy of Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth earlier, my old copy was falling to pieces. I'm never going to fully understand this book and I'm pretty certain I hope I never do. Grant Morrison as a Batman writer > Batman writers who aren't Grant Morrison.

It's been a while since I read Knightfall. It's funny, Knightfall is the first Batman comic book storyline I can remember reading through. I had the collected omnibus when I was like 8 and all I remember is that I didn't have a clue what was going on, AzBat's scared me and I was really sad about Bruce's back.

The overall arc is great, but the ending is just so lackluster.

Might see if I can find a cheap omnibus somewhere. I've got the files on my laptop but I really hate reading 90's comics on a screen, really weird but I just can't seem to get through 90's work unless it's actually the real thing.

Isn't the final ending where

I personally thought the conclusion to Hush was also pretty lackluster.

Hush in general is pretty lackluster imo. Or at least in regards to it's reputation. I think it's got incedible art and the general idea is good but some people put it up there with stuff like Year One, The Long Halloween and The Dark Knight Returns, it's nowhere near that level of greatness in my opinion. It's a really good intro to Batman though, if someone asked me to recommend a book to "get into" Batman then Hush would be pretty near the top of the list.

Heart of Hush on the otherhand... Fuck I love Paul Dini.

I wouldn't put it that high either but I still really liked it. Anyway conclusions to epic stories are hard to do and are really easy to screw up.

Freeman, don't tell me after reading Knightfall that you still won't admit to Bane being one of the greatest villains in comics? /:
And yes, the entire thing started to go down hill, and bad after Breaking of the Bat. God, I miss that Bane.
And I have yet to muster the effort to start reading Hush, going to start Secret Six Vol. 3 after I finish Year 100.

Knightfall is not bad, can't remember the exact ending myself so probably should give it another go some time soon.

Anyone reading Snyder's Zero Year? Not bad so far but nothing that special.

I think it's going great so far. The art is glorious, but all of Capullo's stuff generally is when it comes to the Bat haha. Detective Comics #25 (Jim Gordon Zero Year tie in) might be my favourite issue of any comic of the New 52 so far.

and I legit did a spit take when I saw the last page of the latest Batman.

I think it's awesome how whenever Bane appears post-2012 in the comics he's usually shown at least once in the 'Hardy pose' with the coat. It's small stuff like that, like there's a Tumbler Batmobile now (and Batman calls it the Tumbler) that shows how the movies can influence the comics and not just the other way around. For all their faults on the movie front (i.e. pretending Batman and Superman are the only superheroes for like 40 years) I think Warner and DC have got a great handle when it comes to the movies. They're trying to keep them separate enough that they're not totally dependent on one another whereas Marvel basically treat it as one and the same when it comes to Avengers related comics.

Plus it's awesome how Bane's treated as a semi A list Batman rogue now instead of a guy that pops up, wrecks shit and disappears for years without an appearance.

A List:

The Joker
Catwoman
Two-Face
Penguin
Ra's al Ghul

And just below them:

Bane
The Riddler
Talia al Ghul

Harley Quinn's got a new monthly comic, bought issue 0 today.

It was a fun read, 17 artists, all drawing her in a different style in different scenarios throughout the comic, all linked because Harley breaks the fourth wall and the whole concept is that she;s trialling these artists as potential artists for her comic.

Nice reference to The Animated Series in it. May buy this every month, since I haven't got an ongoing comic since I stopped buying Gambit after it got stupid in issue 4 or something.

That's kinda the whole point of the story. The entire reason Knightfall was done was a reaction against the changing nature of superheroes at the time, it's essentially DC telling it's fans "Be careful what you wish for".

"You people seriously want a new Batman who is more "badass" and edgy than Bruce? Well here you go, enjoy!".

So we get a new Batman who absolutely sucked at being what people actually want Batman to be like and people were clamouring for Bruce to take up the cowl again.

Hah, how is Bane an A-list villain now? he's essentially Hardy Bane gone terribly wrong. I like the design of him, though.
We really just need the heads behind Knightfall to make Bane stories.
