That's kinda the whole point of the story. The entire reason Knightfall was done was a reaction against the changing nature of superheroes at the time, it's essentially DC telling it's fans "Be careful what you wish for".

"You people seriously want a new Batman who is more "badass" and edgy than Bruce? Well here you go, enjoy!".

So we get a new Batman who absolutely sucked at being what people actually want Batman to be like and people were clamouring for Bruce to take up the cowl again.
Ahh did not know that. Makes sense.

But I still liked it overall, I was kinda pissed that he beat Bane, but his character development is really cool in the next 2 arcs.

Gahh, so the place I used to acquire my comics is now blocked, so I need to procrastinate over the stories I haven't finished.
So, I still don't get what's so bad about B&R All Stars. It's just a fresh interpretation with how a SPD suffering control freak with the strength of ten men would be. Yeah, the stuff with Robin is a bit too much and just seems like shock value bait, but it isn't as bad.

It basically encapsulates how far Frank Miller went off the deep end and basically became a parody of himself. Gratuitously sexualized women on nearly every page (not that female characters aren't overly sexualized in general, but Miller takes it to an absolute next level), endless dialogue that constantly repeats itself over and over and again, plus it's the epitome of the "oh Bruce is nuts" interpretation of Batman. It's fine to do that in 1986 but it's really tiresome in the 21st century in my opinion.

Seen that before. It's cool how Ledger took inspiration from so many places. I.E. the broken down and washed out look is inspired by Sid Vicious.

I agree, but I dunno, the core idea was just so interesting to me *by your definition all kinds of Batman are tired, it's all about the execution* but it did seem like some writer trying to be Frank Miller in a somewhat pretentious way, not an actual Frank Miller work.

Nah I love the borderline psychopath jerkass Batman. That's the Batman I've been raised on. It's just since the turn of the new millennium writers like Miller tend to ignore the "borderline" part and jump straight into psychopathy. The 'fun' in Batman's character for me is that every single day of his life since he was 8 he's been broken down and haunted by the trauma in Crime Alley. But his strength of will keeps him from slipping and basically becoming the ultimate super villain, Lex Luthor crossed with the Joker. Being Batman is how he stops himself from going completely nuts.

Batman in ASB&R doesn't have any of that humanity of the character to me. He isn't just slipping off the slope he's jumping out of a plane without a parachute.

Isn't it a parody on purpose? Just like... someone... talked about with Azrael earlier.

"You want super hardcore Batman?! WELL HERE'S SOME HARDCORE BATMAN, HOW THE FUCK YA LIKE THAT! NOW GET OFF MY BACK."
