TDKR = The Dark Knight Returns DKR = Dark Knight Rises
Not as good so it doesn't deserve all the letters. Nah. The only reason I don't like it as everyone does is because of what Frank Miller did to Superman there. Unacceptable.

TDKR is an amazing Batman tale but a horrible, horrible Superman one. Which is why many people simply did not want The Dark Knight Returns to be the main inspiration behind Superman vs Batman.

And that is the very same reason I'm worried about the next Superman & Batman movie. Not because of Ben Afleck, but because they used The Dark Knight Returns out of all comics to introduce their movie's idea. I don't want this to be a Versus movie, goddamnit. Superman and Batman shouldn't even be fighting to begin with. Maybe during their first encounters, but their best storylines are thise where they work together.

After Origins I desperately want Deathstroke in a Batman movie. Why do people like Lobo get promised a fucking movie but not Deathstroke?

Lobo is overrated IMO. I would want to watch a Suicide Squad movie with Deathstroke in it.
Fun fact: I didn't know that Slade from the Teen Titans shows was actually Deathstroke until i googled it to confirm it

Might as well post this here too, finished the Arkham Origins main storyline:
This is just a brief review of my own experience.
SPOILERTASTIC Arkham AsylumFirstly I'll just say, overall, I loved it. It was a really interesting and cool take on the origins of Bat's first venture into the extreme villain territory. Now I'll try and go through in order on specific points. The beginning to be honest, wasn't particularly special. The first two games had really epic sequences to the start of the game, but I felt in this one you were just kind of thrown into the action at Blackgate against Black Mask as a like 'here you go, now stuff is happening' thing, but not too major. The fight against Croc was pretty epic, I shat my pants the first time he was snapping his jaws like millimetres from Bat's face. Though I think he was used in a bit of a throwaway fashion, but it was cool having a boss fight so early on. Loved seeing the Batcave finally, though disappointed that we didn't get to see much of Wayne Manor. Alfred and Bruce's relationship dynamic I enjoyed very much. They really showed Alfred's concern for Bruce well. The introduction of the Riddler, or "Enigma" as he is currently calling himself (I haven't finished up his stuff yet, going to do that after posting this) was cool. I like how his tech and stuff is more rudimentary compared to how it evolves later in the Arkhamverse. For a small period around here I was having some massive framerate issues (at one point nigh unplayable) but they fixed up afer about 20 minutes and I had no further problems with it. Though a brief google showed some people are having a lot of trouble, especially after fast-travelling. Though a patch is promised to fix this. Fighting Deathstroke I thoroughly enjoyed and am looking forward to my replay to get the every counter trophy. Loved Barbara's appearance in it, already showing those l33t haxor skillz As soon as the Joker's name was dropped, I was excited as, I couldn't wait for his appearance. I've heard mix receptions, but personally I loved the reveal in which he was Black Mask all along and had kidnapped Sionis to fuck with everyone. Traditionally the Joker is the first in the line of crazed villains that Batman faces and it was such a Joker thing to do. It was also great to see Joker genuinely trying to kill Batman, as he hadn't yet chosen him as his "life partner" (lol) The subsequent Bane fight was really fucking hard (played on Hard, no hints) but awesome and the scene with Batman saving Joker and Joker's little monologue on killing was fantastic. And then the subsequent Red Hood Sequence . . . O . M . G. I had the biggest fucking nerdgasm. It was so well done, especially in the way it was so distorted and crazy, with no real background just the key elements; Batman, Red Hood, Ace Chemicals, Vat Fall. It is the most perfect Joker/Red Hood origin scene I have seen/read. It nails Joker's mentality perfectly in that he doesn't remember his origin properly himself. And the portrayal of Batman in it? Just great. The little Harley and Joker scene was cute too. Was a little disappointed in Penguin's role in the game. And highly disappointed to not see his face get glassed. Although I haven't finished everything off so *fingers crossed* The Copperhead fight sucked. It was so fucking easy, I was actually surprised that is was over. I thought after healing myself we'd have a proper fight, but it was just nothing. It was cool to see how they did the Bane story. I wished they fought at the Manor though, but it was epic that did finally have him do the back-snap in the final fight. The Firefly sequence was pretty cool, though now I know how that fight goes, it will be pretty piss from now on. They did the slow evolution of Bats and Gordon's relationship over the night really well too. I like how reluctant Jim is, but recognises that he clearly has no choice. The ending wasn't super powerful or anything, but it did wrap up nicely. However wtf no Deadshot or Shiva!?!? Though I guess they might be involved in the side mission stuff, pretty much just charged the main story through. The gameplay was relatively similar, which no complaints there. The fights were a bit harder, the enemies rush you more and come at you from a lot more different angles. Plus more variation enemy types. All quite cool. All in all I was pretty satisfied with Origins. It was a great take on this period of Batman's career, and like the previous ones I am looking forward to replaying definitely. First to finish all the side missions though, especially keen on bagging Riddler for the first time. There ya go, a brief rundown of my experiences fresh from the final fight. I'll probably have more to add, but that's my piece for now.
---
I like Superman and all. But to be honest, it was satisfying to see his ass humbled in the end of TDKR and at the hands of Bruce no less. - The Goddamn Batman

Batman fighting Superman in the end of The Dark Knight Returns was fantastic (IMO), it was such an epic moment, people are complaining that it's a bad Superman sorry, but it was never meant to be about him anyway. It's not a Superman story at all, it's a Batman story but with Superman in it as a character, not half of the story.
Anyway I almost forgot to mention this in here:
Has anyone seen the animated movie Batman: The Mask Of Phantasm? It has to be hands down my favorite animated Batman movie, it's an amazing Batman story, it's one of the best animated movies (of all time, not just of Batman) and an incredibly underrated classic. I'm surprised no one here has mentioned it yet. It ties in with The Animated Series of the 90s and has Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in their roles as Batman and The Joker. If you haven't seen it get off your ass! You're missing out!

CBJ@ I myself told you the twist disappointed me when you asked me through PM, but now after i'm through with the game it definitely paid off. Very happy with how the story ended up being. Also, Deathstroke is kind of pointless to play as now since he has no shock gloves. I tried playing with him today and just...blah, feels very weird. They should have given him something like it to compensate. But still, I didn't pay an extra cent *I actually got the game for 50$* so I can't really complain. I just started my New Game+ save, i'll finish up The Dark Knight challenges and then go roam around in my kickass suit. As for the End game side mission anybody know where Blackgate Prisoner 6 is? I roamed the entire area, nothing.

Miller did not do that with Superman.

Batman and Superman first met because Supes wanted to hunt him down for being a vigilante. If the President of the United States asks Superman to get rid of a vigilante who is breaking the law. Superman is going to do it.

i think they just used the knight returns quote at comicon to show that bats will be in it, it wont be heavily based on it as it will be a supes film. Rises already borrowed enough from returns, as well as vengence of bane/knightfall, for them to do it again. I expect it to be more like worlds finest. . Anyone else think the dark knight returns animated film was better than rises? The fight with the mutant leader at the scrapyard was more satisfying than either bane fight.

I think I heard somewhere that it's not a sequel to Man Of Steel, it's a Batman movie as much as its a Superman movie or something like that.
I didn't care much for the animated Dark Knight Returns movie, it paled in comparison to the graphic novel for me. When I was watching it I only wanted to turn it off and read the GN instead.

That's highly subjective man. Bane is infinitely more godlike than the Mutant leader. Enjoyed the Nolan movie more than the animated one.

Superman has always been the first one for operating within the law. The league don't call him the Boy Scout for nothing. Doesn't make him a "government tool".
Clark is a country boy taught to respect authority and the law. It's why Luthor could operate illegally for so long, because Clark refuses to bend the rules to bring him to justice.
---
President Luthor is no argument. Clark would never follow Luthor, he knows that he obtained his position through questionable methods and is not to be trusted. He still has to respect the law though. And was reluctant to let Bruce operate in the first place until he was convinced otherwise. A decade later when there are no vigilantes anymore and Bruce starts operating (at the extreme risk of his own safety due to his age) and Clark is asked by the President to uphold the law, he is going to do it, as much as he would prefer not to.
EDIT:

I disagree. I think it was a pretty perfect adaptation of the novel, the only thing really missing was the inner monologuing, which sucked a bit, but I understand the reason to cut it.

Yet the President in The Dark Knight Returns treats him like a soldier or someone similar, that's what bothers me the most. This just doesn't feel like Superman to me.
