most (virtually all of us) probably knew her as the voice of mrs. krabappel on the simpsons.

Quote:

Marcia Wallace, the feisty redhead who starred as receptionist Carol Kester on “The Bob Newhart Show” and voiced teacher Edna Krabappel on “The Simpsons,” died Friday. She would have turned 71 on Nov. 1.

TMZ reported the actress died at her home in Los Angeles but other details remained unclear.

Wallace won an Emmy for outstanding voiceover performance on “The Simpsons” in 1992.

Born in Creston, Iowa, she moved to New York after graduating college and worked in off-Broadway productions. The role of the receptionist on “The Bob Newhart Show” was written specifically for her after she had appeared numerous times on “The Merv Griffin Show.”

After “Bob Newhart,” she went on to appear on several game shows and on “ALF,” “Full House” and “Bewitched” as well as “Murphy Brown,” “The Brady Bunch,” “Taxi” and “Murder, She Wrote.”

She appeared in more than 100 episodes of “The Simpsons” as Bart Simpson’s teacher, who eventually marries Ned Flanders.

She also appeared in films such as “My Mother the Werewolf,” “Teen Witch” and “Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College.” Wallace appeared onstage in productions including “The Vagina Monologues.” She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985 and published a memoir “Don’t Look Back, We’re Not Going That Way!”

She is survived by a son.

very sad. i may no longer enjoy simpsons the way i once did, but the voices will always be the top dogs, and she was always a fantastic regular as krabappel. it's sad to think how young she was and how often fucking cancer ends life early.

may she rest in peace

tbh at first glance, that's actually what i always used to think in the credits too. used to make a joke out of it until i stopped watching.

still can't imagine how tough it's gotta for her son, or even her castmates considering they've all been working together for over 20 years.

Shame to hear that she's died. I always loved Edna Krabappel too.

I'm gonna move this to off topic anyway.

I right away thought of Pulp Fiction when reading the topic title... Sort of happy I wasn't the only one >__>

Sad to hear, I hear they are killing off a character this season, they may go with her character now.

“I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace,” producer Al Jean said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character.”

"Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away,” Jean continued. “This was not Marcia’s Edna Krabappel. Marcia’s passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her.”

When an actor dies the least respectful thing to do is make her character die by some accident or use it as a plot device. I hope they just don't refer to it on the show.

He mentioned something interesting... Konami, they claim that what they're doing in Casinos are the missing piece... money, to surpass video games.
