Old topic maybe? who knows. Anyway, title. Does anyone practices martial arts here? has anyone been in the military and learn special hand to hand combat training? I have have experience in some MA but nothing like CQC. Now we all know that all these CQC thing in MGS began in MGS3 with Motosada Mori as military advisor, saying him that his system was taught to SWAT teams. However when you google CQC it looks like it is more a general term than an actual system. Anyone has an idea??? BTW I think there is a book or something written by the same Motosada Mori teaching these same techiniques. Can't find it for free though... EDIT: as I thought, found it: http://www.budovideos.com/personal-defense-system-dvd-2-by-motosada-mori.html But the language is only in japanese so no use if I buy it... does anyone has these videos??? I have practiced martial arts, shotokan karate in particular, and CQC is just a segment of martial arts in general. There's disciplines that focus on it more than others, though. For example, I doubt it that you'll see Tae Kwon Do people doing grapples and shit, because that discipline mainly focuses on kicks. The thing is that, in my school, we were trained by policemen. So we also got to see police grapples in there, which basically is what you call "CQC". I think it's also touched upon in Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga, the latter in particular because it's a martial art developed for the Israeli special forces. |

I'm currently active in Shotokan and most styles don't have let's say, a uniform curriculum of takedowns and disarms...its pretty much taught at the instructors discretion. Honestly, the closest you would probably get would be Russian Systema. |

How about that! I'm a shotokan practitioner too hahaha, black belt actually... have also practiced judo and boxing, of course judo is the closest one to CQC in throws. About disarms, IDK maybe japanese jujitsu or aikido?? and while krav maga is taught to many security forces around the world, it's not similar to CQC. As far as I know it has much more striking than grappling, with a lot of dirty tricks like strikes to the groin and eyes. But guess what? I found a book that talks about motosada mori: http://books.google.com.mx/books?id=WywWS0aNpT8C&pg=PA125&lpg=PA125&dq=motosada+mori+combatives&source=bl&ots=UGV3Dgm83v&sig=Gk8psNFu8DRiH-l-bSyCtkiPRJM&hl=es&sa=X&ei=N7_VUv-YFanesASZhYCIAw&ved=0CDQQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=motosada%20mori%20combatives&f=false Acoording to the author, he is a black belt in both judo and kyokushin karate, and has some little experience in muay thai and silat. So I guess the system we see since mgs3 is more silat oriented... whatever the case, Kojima really hired a badass for military advisor of the games: he is former Japanese Self Defense Force operative, former French Foreign Legion and former bodyguard of the Dalai Lama. Now he works as an instructor of counter-terrorism units

With a background in Tae Kwon Do in my later childhood, I've been a fan of martial arts. Though, now (I'm 17), I do Jeet Kune Do, not sure if you are familiar but it was developed by Bruce Lee and basically means "Way of the Intercepting Fist." I've taken courses in a variety of martial arts (a private made one named Tekkenryu Jujutsu) amongst others, but never became a 'master'. From my experience and heavy research into martial arts, I believe Krav Maga, Jujutsu, and some more military tactics incorporated by the Japanese man you mentioned have the key role in the formation of the CQC style. Looks like it's heavily influenced by a mixture of Krav Maga and Judo (deriving from simplified Jujutsu) though, as also hinted at by Volgin in MGS3, "What is that? Some kind of Judo?" |
