I apologize if this doesn't belong here, but I didn't know where else to ask this. I'm taking a Psychology class this semester, and one of my assignments is to type up a journal article review. Here's her instructions:

Hi All,

I just wanted to provide a little additional clarification regarding the Journal Article Review assignment that is due later week. When you are selecting your article to review, please make sure it meets the following criteria:

1. It is from a professional, peer-reviewed journal in psychology. If in doubt, search for articles in the journals listed in the syllabus. You can never go wrong by choosing articles from the Psychology of Women Quarterly!

2. The article must present the findings of empirical research. It must describe a study that the authors have conducted and it must present the findings of that study. One big clue that an article fits this criteria is that it will include a Methods and a Results section.

3. The journal article must be about a topic that is related to women and/or gender.

Now, my question is.. Can I do a review over this? files.planbookedu.com/247567/.../Video+Games+and+Gender+Roles.pdf‎

It's probably a silly question, but I can't find anything she suggested in her syllabus to read online without having to pay for it.

The article isn't showing up Light :( . Says "access denied" . Anyway, I'm sure as long as it fits the criteria it should be fine. But I think the most assuring thing to do is run this article by your professor and let her decide if it qualifies.

Also, your school's library should have lots of these kinds of articles I'm assuming. You might want to check there if your running out of ideas. If all else fails though, inform your professor and ask if she can point you in the direction where you can access such sources that don't require payment. Personally, other than class books, I've never had a professor who made it mandatory for me to pay for an article I needed to write a report on. I'm not sure if they're even allowed to demand that of you honestly.

Yeah this. I can't see your link either but I do know it's really hard to find academic journal articles online for free. Hopefully your school's website does have a library that gives you free access to stuff like that. I don't know if most schools do but they should. Sounds like a ordeal though. Whenever I see the words "academic journal" in an assignment I wanna kill myself. It's like when I'm on mgsf and I see the word "cannon" used as an adjective.

I think that's what I'm going to do the next time I write another review. I thought it was going to be an easy assignment, but as I was trying to find an article, I was in full panic mode because almost all of the websites I came across wanted me to pay at least $30. wtf seriously? Since my teacher wasn't online, I ran the idea through my mom and she told me to pick something else. Luckily, I was able to find one in time, write a review on it, and turn it in. Crossing fingers for a decent grade.

Thank you for the advice though guys! And sorry about the link. I could've swore it worked after I tested it the first time haha. If you're wondering what the article was, it was about gender roles in video games. It would've been a fun article to write a review about if my teacher gave me free reign. :glare:

@Bames: Does writing journal reviews qualify as being...... cannon? :roy:

We have arrived.
Have you tried stuff from places like Jstor, or Project Muse? I don't know if any of them are of any use for what you're looking for, but if you have a search and find anything there I should be able to get most of it for you for free since I have access to them through my university. Send me a PM or something if you need if these are of any use.

http://www.oxfordjournals.org/
http://muse.jhu.edu/
http://www.jstor.org/
http://www.apa.org/pubs/databases/psycinfo/coverage.aspx
http://www.apa.org/pubs/databases/psycarticles/index.aspx

I have access to the majority of stuff on all of those.

Oh I just see you got sorted. Well in the future if you need any help feel free to ask.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The next review won't be due until March, so give me some time to look through everything and I'll be sure to shoot you a PM sometime before then.
