@Vergil: I agree. Turning Chico into one of the Outer Heaven boss mercs is a very attractive idea imo. There's already a heavy desire for any MG1 Outer Heaven relations in TPP, and imo Chico would be a perfect candidate to become one of those bosses and flesh out his character.

@Death speculation:

Having paid such precise attention to the growing bond and relationship between Chico and Paz, Paz' death really doesn't serve anyone as greatly as it would Chico, which is why I'm almost certain he'll make a return in TPP.

Exactly. I imagine if he shows up in a remake of the MSX games, his death would hit me with so many feels after his potential story in MGSV. I imagine his death would be similar to Gray Fox's in MG2.
You too have known loss, and that loss torments you still. You hope hatred might someday replace the pain, but it never goes away.

I think (and hope) that in TPP Chico will have a very darker personality and out for revenge.
Would be an interesting way to further show just how much the world has changed since Big Boss fell into his coma.

Most of us want that.

I really wanted to believe that Chico was Ishmael. Ishmael's circumsision at 13 by Abraham, and Chico being 13 during the events of Ground Zeroes, but despite that, there really is no solid evidence for Chico becoming Ishmael. The only reason I want that is because I thought it'd convey better story telling than Ishmael being someone as random as the Medic, however, most evidence is pointing towards that now.

I'm starting to believe that Chico is dead. The song "Here's to You" isn't just about two men who suffered, they died. The song is not about the tragedy Big Boss and Miller have endured, because at this point, they are by no means heroes. Though I'd argue Paz isn't any more innocent than those two. It seems as if ever since he had to change the original ending of MGS4(which was Snake and Otacon being executed for their war crimes), Kojima's been attempting to convey this song with its proper meaning.

I'm accepting the idea that Ishmael doesn't exist, but this doesn't explain the similarities between Ishmael and the Medic, I mean, some of you could be right, it could just be coincidence, but there's further evidence, like him giving Big Boss that injection, along with him watching over Big Boss for 9 years. Believe me, more ridiculous things have happened in the series than having someone's face bandaged for nearly a decade. Big Boss suffering from extreme PTSD or psychosis could really explain his assumed behavior in Metal Gear 1 and 2(which I honestly believe will be toned down in order to fit the more human Big Boss we've seen throughout the series, especially MGS4), and that could tie into Ishmael being a hallucination.

I've really just accepted the fact that we REALLY don't know what happens to Chico, or the identity of Ishmael, or really anything, we'll just have to wait for the next trailer, and even then, the next trailer definitely wont be set in Camp Omega, and we'll probably see a section of the story that isn't set in Afghanistan. The only evidence that I can give for Chico being dead is that he doesn't return in any of the future games, we know Amanda, may stay alive because she is potentially Meryl's mother, but Chico... I can't see a character being given so much importance in two games, then never making an appearance in the canonically later games.

Same goes for Ishmael, Quiet, Code Talker, if their backgrounds do not fit those of the characters that appear later in the series, then it could be assumed that they're all dead by the end of The Phantom Pain. I'm not saying that the characters couldn't just up and disappear like Cecile did, but when Kojima gives a substantial amount of importance, he usually intends on killing them off within that game or making them into a recurring character in the series. Eva in MGS3 came out of nowhere, there was no sign of her existence in MGS1 and 2, but because she was integral to the story, she had to make a final appearance in 4.

While Chico may have died (which I really don't want), I don't believe that's the case just because it would be a huge waste of potential as Chico has already been built in Ground Zeroes to fit the theme of revenge. While Chico may be Decoy Octopus (which I also really don't want him to be), I think that Chico will reappear in the Phantom Pain as a cold-hearted, borderline suicidal character whose only objective is to avenge Paz. And I'm almost certain he will die in TPP, saying something like how now he can be together with Paz again.

What we want isn't always what's mostly likely to happen. I don't want Chico to die either, but I'm almost certain that his death is simply going to be used as a device to motivate Big Boss, Miller, and possibly Amanda to take action against Skull Face. Though, it's interesting, because, judging from The Afghanistan trailer, Miller, and presumably Big Boss, still believe that Cipher authorized this attack, which they did not, it was Skull Face acting independently. It'll be interesting to see what kind of dynamics this will cause, we could see Diamond Dogs and The Patriots fighting against XOF together.

Chico's a great character, and it'd be amazing to see him turn into or tie into another character, but man, Decoy Octopus? That one dude we don't see like, more than once? He doesn't even have a defined personality, that'd be a ridiculously anti-climactic end to the character. I'd rather have them retcon Gray Fox's entire background and his appearance in Portable Ops so he can be him than to have him be Octopus.

You get "Target is confirmed dead. Mission failed Boss!" in what sounds like Kaz's voice.

Jack, listen to me. We're all born with an expiration date. No one lasts forever. Life is nothing but a grace period - for turning our genetic material into the next generation. The data of life is transferred from parent to child. That's how it works. But we have no heirs, no legacy. Cloned from our father, with the ability to reproduce conveniently engineered out. What is our legacy if we cannot pass the torch? Proof of our existence - a mark of some sort. When the torch is passed on from parent to child... it extends beyond DNA; information is imparted as well. All I want is to be remembered. By other people, by history. - Soildus Snake

Chico will be the new Raiden.

What I mean by that? I mean that everyone hates Chico now, but by the time TPP comes out, he will take a level in badass and be everyone's favorite character...well, after Ocelot. Just like Raiden in MGS2 to MGS4.

He becomes Decoy Octopus.
If Chico becomes Decoy Octopus, that means Decoy Octopus has brown hair. Solid Snake had brown hair; and he eventually gets OctoCamo in MGS4. Chico is Decoy Octopus has been Snake the whole time confirmed.
Or what if..
I bet like; Snake got Otacon to build him a time machine after MGS4 and they went back in time and Snake is actually the commandante, Chico and Amanda's father. Somehow Otacon must've devised a way for Snake to have kids and for some reason Chico kept traits of the OctoCamo letting him eventually become Decoy Octopus.
Solidest theory ever me thinks

But seriously I hope Chico is dead; how many times has he ratted out his buddies?I know he's a kid and all but goddamnit I hate that kid lmao
