What if BB actually found all the tape on the GZ mission? but obiously Kojima put them on different missions so you would explore them too. But if you guys want to imagine the real story, he could find and know all the tapes before the GZ mission ends. Why not?
You can't have optional stuff be critical to following the main story, people who didn't take the time to collect the tapes would be confused.

If they want to make the characters aware of the information from Chico's tapes, they'd have to come up with something like the entire collection of recordings actually being on the one tape we got through the main story, or Chico having told Kaz and friends what happened.

I imagine Chico tried to tell Kaz what happened, but Kaz isn't willing to listen.

Lol didn't we just have that conversation? Skull Face also had copies made... foreshadowing that we will canonically stumble upon Skully's personal collection of mixtapes?

I can totally see that sick fuck keeping a copy of those tapes as his personal collection.

I can totally see SF capturing Chico or BB and playing the tape over and over, forcing them to hear Paz's (and Chico's) cries of pain.
And if it's Chico, SF keeps playing Paz's final message to him where she thanks him, making the guilt and emotional pain build up inside of Chico.

kojima is incredible! how the fuck have i not seen that?!
Tapes are a lazy and awful way to tell a story, its even more evident in Skull Face case, his entire characterization and background comes from optional tapes instead of being organically implemented within the game, if Kojima doesnt do a good balance of tapes/cutscene presentation TPP could suffer from a storytelling point.
Deus Ex and Last of Us made them right, optionals convos/files (founded in game world mind you, not in shitty extra missions) that only serve to flesh out the world, but the characters themselves are pretty talkative in those games, yeah yeah, ''but you havent played the game'', but GZ and the recent gameplay demo doesnt give me confidence, its pretty clear that Kojima is going for a completly minimal exposition on the story front.
Karma's a bitch, huh? Fucking hack

While I do agree with you on some parts, mainly the Skull Face thing, I mainly believe it was just so we could get an idea of Skull Face's backstory in GZ, which is inly a prologue, and that more about him and his connection to Snake and Zero will be shown in cutscenes in TPP.

You know what I think would be really funny and totally something Kojima would do? Have Chico be the final boss of TPP.
Since Big Boss will become more villainous throughout the game and it will ultimately end with Big Boss becoming the antagonist we meet in Metal Gear, it would be a nice way to show how far he's fallen. Chico will oppose Big Boss' ways and cruelty, and the two will have a battle.
Ultimately, Big Boss wins, pointing his gun at Chico, who is on his knees and hands, mirroring the scene in Peace Walker, where Big Boss makes makes Chico hombre nuevo. Only this time, Chico will say that someone else will rise to stop Big Boss and "Shoot. You will only kill a man." And this time, Big Boss actually pulls the trigger, completing his transformation.
Metal Gear Solid V started with the heroic Snake rescuing Chico, and it will end with the villainous Big Boss killing Chico. And the player has to once again pull the trigger, just like in MGS3.

My theory is that Chico escapes the helicopter crash since he betrayed Big Boss. And in order to survive he will have to disguise himself and hide. And he will re-join Big Boss later as Decoy Octopus. Decoy Octopus was the oldest member of Foxhound in Shadow Moses. And Chico would be 43 in Shadow Moses and since the other members of Foxhound were either in their 30's or 20's, it would make sense.

He might not re-join Big Boss as Decoy Octopus as it might be an obvious plot twist for us, but I do believe Chico will become Decoy Octopus.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't survive the helicopter crash. With the nails in his feet and Kaz, Big Boss and the medic probably seriously injured, who could help Chico?

Either way, I don't want him to live. Seeing as Chico was a child (innocence?), he could be seen as Big Boss' last piece of humanity in his transformation to evil which dies as Chico dies. Although, with that said, Chico could die in The Phantom Pain - perhaps Big Boss has to kill him. Also, I want him to die because I found his character annoying in Peace Walker, a game I'm not too fond of.
That's an enemy signature...
