Yea the biggest issue with tranq. guns IRL is that using them wouldn't knock them out fast enough before they yell or make it obvious somethings wrong.
Not to mention the big dart sticking out of their neck.
But there are some types of drugs that can knock you out in half a second..
...depending on the dosage.
Weight, height and all kinds of other factors need to be taken into account when using those kinds of drugs.
They would never work in a similar fashion to Tranq. weapons in MGS.

Flunitrazepam in your coffee is more likely.

Those are really strong drugs. How do you determine the dosage for each individual you're going to knock out, so that they don't die to overdose, or worse die to allergic reaction?

Good point, Tyzuris. I can imagine, that, in real life, you'd have to shoot at least 2-3 times to get an "immediate" effect. And you'd have to be lightning-fast in order to stop the enemy from running away/calling for backup. Personally, I have never, ever seen a drug so powerful that a dosage of few milligrams can knock an adult down within 1 second. I wish that in the Kojima Station Episode series, someone would ask the question about which gun/exact type of darts is Snake using in GZ. But most likely the question will simply get ignored...
