you're* Anyways, to be OT just for my sake: While there are some ways his actions can be compared to Darth Vaders, They arent even remotely the same. When you take into consideration both of their reasons for doing what they done, they are polar opposites. Anyone would go to great lengths to save a loved one. BB really only did what he did for revenge, spite, hatred, selfishness, etc.. While you could make the argument that BB had good intentions (which is pushing the 'misunderstood hero' card a little too far), he still ultimately had no agenda other than destroying his enemy. Darth Vador was really just trying to keep his wife alive while losing his morals and bearing along the way. Eventually being blinded by the power. You could also apply that to BB, but as I said before, you're pushing it quite a bit. |

Ah, grammar corrections. The definitive go to for those with no actual retort. OT: The only ways BB and Darth are similar is they are bad guys who where the fathers of the main character. |

I'm not sure about that. If anything Big boss is the "anti-anakin". Going against the Americans is hardly joining the bad side. Big boss's story is the opposite of what happened to Anakin. Zero is basically Palpatine from the get go. |

I'd say the story is more like if Anakin said fuck you to both the Jedi and the Sith and created his own order. |

Although I get how the two aren't exactly identical I still can't help likening TPP to Metal Gears Revenge of the Sith. And in terms of the structure of the story he IS Darth Vader because they are doing exactly the same thing. Going back in time to flesh out a well established bad guy to tell the story of how he became a bad guy. But lets be honest, Metal Gear did a WAAYYY better job at it. And for the most part the prequels haven't ruined Big Boss' retro bad guy image in the same way. I wish I could un-know everything I know about Anakin Skywalker because it totally ruined Vaders badass image. |
| And this is the way the saga ends, not with a bang...but a whimper | |

In this game, I want Snake to have a romance that's like Anakin and Padme. |

I agree with both of these statements and to a certain degree the one in the topic title. We know Kojima is a big Sci Fi fan so its safe to assume that The Patriots are based on the Galactic Empire/Republic with their leader being the series's main villian. Back when Big Boss was the series main villian though the similarities were very vague. I mean sure the main villian in MG1 being your commander all along was kind of similar to how Luke finds out Vader is his father but the real similarities didn't start to show until Big Boss was revealed to also be Solid's father in Metal Gear Solid (1998), Anakin Skywalker was burnt up and rebuilt in Revenge of the Sith (2005) and the existence of the Patriots were actually revealed in Metal Gear Solid 2 (2002). Maybe with the release of The Phantom Menace Kojima decided to go back and fill out the series backstory, basing it primarily on the Star Wars saga and its chronicling of Darth Vader's turn to the Dark Side who knows. Raiden and Solidus fought with lightsabers. Or was that Raiden and Sam. I'm not sure. |

High frecuency blades are metal gear's lightsabers. Those things can cut carbon nanotubes, and that material is on par with diamonds in durability |

Some people might say that the prequals have ruined Big Boss's badass image in the same way. If we are to assume that the prequals do follow the Star Wars prequals in terms of Big Boss's turn to the dark side then Snake Eater is his second half of The Phantom Menace and first half of Attack of the Clones with the death of The Boss being the equivelent of the death of Qui Gon Jinn and Anakin's mother (The Boss being his mentor and mother figure) Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes are his Attack of the Clones in that he tries to save a young woman who secretly loves him and ends up losing an arm. His coma is the Clone Wars and The Phantom Pain will apparently be his Revenge of the Sith in which he finally crosses over to the dark side. |
