Then again, gameplay will actually outweigh cutscenes (or so we are told), so maybe it'll be more balanced.

GTA III was an amazing game and the protagonist never said a word once :P

I personally enjoyed finding and listening to the audio tapes. Instead of being force feed the story you have to search and find the bits and pieces of the story. Just my 2 cents. But I did miss hearing Snake mumble and talk throughout the game.

I'd rather have cutscenes because they're so pretty and I enjoy seeing the characters. But that's me.

Perhaps if Kojima is trying to avoid cramming us with story info by using the tapes then maybe we get given tapes after completing missions that you have to do. That'd be cool to me as I enjoyed the act of listening in the main menu to that Skullface tape of him telling the prisoner his story. That would allow you to move around the large maps while getting more info and you could always listen to it once back at your hub giving a little investigative feel to the game. Clues in your pursuit. It would also eliminate the chance of missing vital story info.

I still want custscenes galore though. I LOVE the new style. I'd rather not have any audio tapes.

To be fair, we are judging as if we know what will happen. Hopefully the audio tapes aren't significant enough that it'll hinder the story overall. I'd like to think of it as Dead Space. You can easily comprehend the story, but the tapes are there for additional information. Also, maybe Skull Face's background is brought up eventually where he reiterates this story. I got a very Joker feeling from it, so it could easily be brought up again or be completely false.

Either way, we are in for a treat! :D

For time #267:
The storyline isn't any more ambiguous or any more well written with the tapes, it's just lazy. Instead of properly dotting all that story and exposition across TPP/GZ, writing situations where it all could fit to form a nice, cohesive narrative, instead all of that is dumped on you through collectible tapes that the game just feels incomplete without some of them. Granted I think TPP might be different in this regard and this is just because of GZ's small size, but piecing things together doesn't mean shoving important plot info into the background through tapes. Piecing things together would be the narrative cleverly having you use deductive reasoning as it progresses.

Finding a video of the interrogation in a security room in Camp Omega would have been a much better option than those fucking tapes.

One thing is putting extra info(or crucial like GZ) in Tapes, the lazy way, BB never knows those facts, he is ignorant of the situation. To me the worst thing is the obligation of stupid sideops to unlock them.

The other one is Boss being part of unveling the mystery or plot points IN world. Like Adam Jensen in human revolution through videos, files, books etc. You have info and dont need cutscenes for that. Win Win for both camps

Payne I think you aren't seeing the bigger picture. If Konjima-San put what was in those tapes in the main game as cutscenes, he would have been flamed alive by the feminist community.

Because it's the first time rape has been shown in media?....
Because all feminists are borgs who want to dominate man, or something?...
The problem people have with the rape tape is how poorly integrated it is into the story, with logical consistency taking a back seat so Kojima can show us his ''DARK TABOOS!111''

Bladewofl@ thank you. If Kojima used Human Revolution as a guide book for that kind of shit it would be perfect.

I agree with Bladewolf and Max, telling the story through tapes was lazy and i can live without them. Heck I could live without the whole rape aka i want to tryhard to be shocking thing. Show it or let it out

That's underselling how bad it could have been considering his track record on handling sexual matters in previous games (Such as Volgin identifying Snake by his...snake.)...Ground Zeroes was a mature step up.

And if you think they aint ranting, go on Tumblr and all those other sites.

I have no problem with the tapes, due to there high quality sound editing and really good performance from the VA's. Shoudn't be complaining in my opinion. Much better then six bloody hours of cutscenes MGS4 style.

I have enjoyed the 'six' hours cutscenes more than the tapes.

I dont know if anyone here read comics, but the whole Vagina Bomb remind me of the Millar's NEMESIS miniseries, that mini tried way TO HARD to be edgy and controversial. it was hilarious in a twisted way. :haha:

Is six hours of tapes any different than 6 hours of cutscenes?
Not really. Again, for time #357: if Kojima takes the dialogue and shifts it over to the tapes, it's still the same redundant dialogue, just now its in the form of collectibles rather than being integrate dinto the story/plot sequences. Most people complaining about the rape aren't complaining about it because its rape, rather the way Kojima approached it.

I don't want six hours of cutscenes, but I don't want the story being put into collectibles.

If Hideo wanted to be controversial he got it. The Vagina bomb pales in comparison to his brutal political commentary on Guantanamo bay and American Foreign Policy. That's the excellent dark themes right there.

People should go to Youtube and search the tapes compilation, it almost 40 minutes of boring voice only audio. With Cutscenes you can look what is fucking hapening at least.
