I have my reserves for that scene. From what I can see, it surely does look like he's pointing the nozzle of the gun at the prisoners upon firing. I can't legitimately theorize why Big Boss would be killing slaves in a cage, so I'd rather like to believe he's not, but the depiction of the trailer definitely emphasizes that he is.

If it's another organization that are mining diamonds and using these prisoners as slave miners, then I can totally see the possibility that a soldier from the other org walks in on Big Boss analyzing the diamonds and BB is forced to react by gunfire and killing him.

As for those prisoners and Snakes interaction with them. If we are to go with the theory that Diamond Dogs is using Diamond mining as a cash front for their organization (makes total sense), then I would believe that the interaction with those slaves would be minimal, i.e. set a location on the map for them to mine/explore, elements into how much production is placed in Diamond mining etc. As for child soldiers, it seems legit to be able to recruit, use and mobilize child soldiers for missions (i.e. outer ops), but playability will be null.

Other organizations child soldiers will probably be reduced to only cutscenes, like the dogs in Ground Zeroes, they make no appearance in game. Therefore the ability to kill them would be restricted.

Just some thoughts anyways.

I think one of the reasons why kojima said he wouldnt be able to release the game is because we might be killing children because i have a feeling those child soldiers we see in the red band trailers are enemies :P also another reason could be slavery being a factor for making diamond dogs grow as a whole. Just makes total sense to me that these things would be why kojima was so worried to even create the game

He was there to rescue those child soldiers...they offered him diamonds to let them out the cell...
I would feel real trapped if I didn't know that I could commit suicide at any moment...

Maybe big boss frees the slaves, and they join him, which could be the cause of them being called diamond dogs.

I would say BB needs to make a quick buck to get his new army off its feet. An early mission is wiping out the slavers and taking their mine. Killing a kid will probably result in a game over.

I dont know how bad big boss is supposed to be portraid in mgs V , but in the trailers before he allegedly shoots against children, he is actually seen handing to one of them a diamond. In real life, diamond slavery children work there for nothing, so BB might found a mine in his Diamond dogs uprising plan, and actually freed them from slavery but let them still work for him and his cause...
If you look BBs diamond he gives to the child is much larger than the ones they already have in their hands so maybe BB was like "this is an example of the diamonds i want you getting" but sadly they dont have ones of that caliber so BB, frustrated with them, decides to shoot them haha far off theory but its plausible
That is a good explanation with the exception that he is not shooting them but shooting at the air to scare them to work.

I agree with Swag like there will be many people bitching if you do kill them and hire them to slave for Diamonds. I do think it will be done right and like Aragorn said, you should be able to interact. By the way, Aragorn, you say you want interaction, but like what do you mean by that? As in how would you want the player to interact?
Laaate reply but anyways: when it comes to the diamonds, instead of just having us go into cutscene mode or whatever, have us actually intimidate them through gameplay so they can mine that shit faster, maybe even have an uprising mechanic were its possible for the kids to try and revolt. Again just throwing out ideas at the moment.

That said, Big Boss is far too sympathetic to be willing to kill children over diamonds, it's just not in his nature and you cannot change a man's nature. Only his tendencies can be changed and its temporary at best. The fact of the matter is Big Boss will kill his enemies, specifically enemies who try to kill him or are aligned against him and clearly have it coming to them. Big Boss is only to going to become a demon in his paranoia that is fueled by Kaz's open vocalizations about his desire for revenge, the types of business he'll be dealing in which are very clearly shady trades like mining for diamonds. He's not going to look at a child, unable to work, and then decide to put a bullet in their head for it, but that doesn't mean he won't send that same child on a dangerous mission that could potentially get them killed after they've healed up.

Similarly, Big Boss isn't going to deny people their just rewards for working for him, or for failing to execute a goal of his. I think Big Boss' "demonic" persona will be more directed at his enemies, he'll be less forgiving toward them, more willing to inflict the types of physical pain that would make even Ocelot cringe should they be holding information he deems important. I think his level of cruelty and evil will escalate to levels between Ocelot's and Volgin's: ruthless, cunning, willing to sanction excruciating torture sessions against opposition to extract information about Skullface and Major Zero, however he will not become a sadist, and start actively being a villain simply because he derives pleasure from it.
Sorry but Metal Gear 1 and 2 say hi. His wrath just being directed at his enemies or the ''bad guys'' literally just makes him a hero, for the natural evolution of the character to flow well into Metal Gear 1 and 2, he loses sight of his goals. What was at a first a self damning quest to stop The Patriots/Cypher from controlling the world, becomes a twisted man's sick delusion being played out while he desperately tries to moralize it all. Big Boss' character just isn't interesting as a pure hero or even anti hero, he needs to be a villain.

Yes, I said he would not become an embodiment of the worst kinds of evil: sado-masochism, sadism, deriving pleasure from the suffering of others or some other feelings of schadenfreud. He isn't going to venture into those types of activities, only step into the darker areas where things like child slavery are known to occur. For instance, he may employ children to mine for diamonds, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be brandishing a whip, treating them as the lowest form of life.

There is a massive difference between conducting unethical business: something seen by society as immoral, and genuine forced labor, which Big Boss is just flat-out not going to do. Man's nature cannot be changed, which is why I said Big Boss is becoming a demon and not a devil. Demons are mere henchmen, and Big Boss sees himself as a mere tool of war. The Devil is in charge, he's the mastermind, the kingpin, and Big Boss isn't and never will be this, and to do so would be to change his nature.

My point is Big Boss will do evil but he won't become evil.
