Did kojima pull something off?; Reasons behind GZ release

It was a poor move on all fronts. If they wanted to make money, how can they not see how successful the F2P model is? If GZ was free, EVERYONE would play GZ, get hyped for TPP because GZ was great, and that would increases TPP sales hugely.

Or if they wanted to keep fans hyped, they should have included a bit of TPP in the game to give us more to talk about. Nothing in GZ happened that we didn't already know except the Paz bomb and the rape.

From a business standpoint giving GZ away for free just to get people interested in TPP would be a massive blunder on their part. Even with long term benefits in mind.

I do agree that GZ could have contained a very small segment from TPP though. A small section of the hospital escape maybe. No spoilers, just something to get your blood rushing and then BAM "to be continued in TPP...". That or a short trailer/teaser with new content. I feel like leaving people hanging like they did was a bit of a mistake personally.
PEACE will come.

I Am The Hype

The only thing i think they did wrong in that area is that they didn't give us the whole 1975 segment. TPP had to be from Big Boss waking up from his coma.

That would have worked too. Anything new that we haven't seen would have been great imo.

I was actually fully expecting Ground Zeroes to be the whole 1975 section.

I think they released GZ to early, there's potentially another year before this comes out, and inevitably might lose alot of steam. I wonder how many people would be mad if they bundle GZ with PP for free.

If Ground Zeroes is essential to MGSV, then it should be included, as it hasn't had great sales. If it's not essential, then it goes to show it was just a soulless cash grab.

I imagine it will be the latter.

I think instead of including all these extra missions and what not, we should have gotten just the GZ mission as a demo in a magazine or something.

Or just release the GZ mission free on PSN/XBL.

That'd work, but I figured they could justify a magazine.

In this day and age, I'd imagine they'd want as many people to play it as possible, and magazines aren't as widespread anymore because of the internet.

Yeah you have to consider that konamis profits nearly halved this year so they needed the dough from GZ haha

Me too. As much I love GZ (I've spent over 28 hours playing it), I think it was a real mistake not keeping the the whole of the 1975 segment in GZ. It would have worked really well considering the fact that as Snake goes into a coma, the game ends and so begins our wait for TPP. Can you imagine the marketing and viral possibilities, with campaigns focusing on so many days left until Snake wakes up etc leading up to the release of TPP? Opportunity missed in my eyes.

There must be a reason why Kojima didn't do this. Well... At least I hope there's a good reason (story related perhaps?) Kojima didn't do this...

Wow, you are right, that would have been really good. That hype would have been insane. :ocelot:

The only excuse I can think of is that the 1975 section is much longer than we think, like maybe one-fifth or one-sixth of the game. If not, it was straight up just a bad move.

Not so lonely anymore...

of course hes pulling a marketing stunt.it doesnt take a genius to figure out that releasing two games instead of one will give you more cash, provided the addicted faggots like us will still pay for both to get the full experience.
