Didn't Kojima said that guard patrols are different depending on time of day? That's probably the reason but I don't think that you could do it in middle of mission - only before or after it. |

Cigar may have multiple uses, but I don't think it would be an item slot if it only worked outside of missions, and last year's trailer implied that it was used during a mission. I'd think it would be limited in a similar way to campsites in Red Dead Redemption where you can only use them away from roads and villiages, we should find out soon enough anyway. It feels kind of too easy since you have all this open gameplay feature to plan your tactics before mission - including time of entry and then you notice in middle of mission that the security is too tight in middle of base and think that I wait here and skip couple of hours to see if security is lighter. As for cigar - I still think that it will have other functions as item. Unless I have missed some important news about it? |

It might, but it's not even a real cigar. The smoke even has scanlines on it, so it's similar to the idroid display It would be traditional for it to improve your aim and things like that, if there's a way you can have it equipped without going to this time mode. Maybe you just have to hold down triangle while standing still to go into the time mode, I think that would work.

Wait for it to be dark for better stealth. Wait for a guard shift change. Wait for a target to come by in a few hours. Makes perfect sense. |

If it allows you to skip time to your advantage, the ranking should penalize you for doing it and should only be a one time use for missions. |

Well, wasn't planning to use that time skipping so much unless there's going to be missions where you are forced to do so.
That still might be a problem since you could still accidentally activate time skipping mode - such as having cigar equipped for improving aim and climbing multiple objects at the same time. |

Yeah I edited to say standing still, and obviously away from anything interactive. Sounds a bit flaky I admit. Edited by Jim Houseman, Jun 10 2014, 08:26:48 PM.

except the day/night guard patrol strenght, maybe some events take place at a certain time window in the game, its actually pretty convenient. But again as i have already talked in another thread about the phantom cigar, i dont think this is its main purpose. Its an equipable item for a reason. |

It is already said some time ago that 3 hours in real-life equals 24 in-game hours. So unless my math is way off, 8 minutes in real-life equals one in-game hour. EDIT - If post above is correct, that's 16 minutes for 1 hour then. Edited by DrEdArgon, Jun 10 2014, 08:42:41 PM.

I think you'll have to set the time before skipping it because on the new screenshot depicting it, it shows the options: mode, set, and reset. |

You're a bit off here. ![]() 24 hours in MGSV is 6 hours in real time, which is to say that time is four times faster in MGSV. Therefore, 1 minute in MGSV is 15 seconds in real time.

I just found out that the cigar is indeed to pass time. In fact it's exactly how i have thought it would be . You can use it in the middle of the mssion and you can smoke as long as you want and choose when to sneak in. Amazing |
