Got it Memeorized?
|
False. He was already called "V" by a female character. Kojima confirmed that he was referring to "Venom Snake" when that female says "V has come to" |

I don't understand why Kojima is being so hesitant to just commit Naked Snake to the title of Big Boss. So, I guess we have to wait until NAKED, PUNISHED, VENOM or what ever Snake name he's going by now heads up FoxHound before he settles on the name BB. That's just great. |

I think he'll never settle with the name Big Boss, but his legacy will be attributed to that codename. The Boss also had codenames like The Joy and Voyevoda, but in the end her main codename was just The Boss, it's the same for Big Boss. Besides most of the characters that call him Snake are the ones that are close to him, so I don't mind it as much. At least Venom is better than Naked and Punished. I always thought the "V" was for Vic Boss, a name he actually gets called. |

My theory is that Punished and Venom are two different snakes, or at least a good/evil persona for Big Boss. Maybe he has a split personality disorder from all the trauma he's endured or something. I don't think they would just ditch the Punished Snake moniker after playing it up as the new Big Boss. Those probably just representations of his good (broken and defeated) and evil (pissed and looking for revenge) side. Punished ![]() Venom

I think that was only said for the sake of the trailer. Referring to mgsV. I doubt he's known around the world as "Venom Snake". Those are just two nouns. It's not even a name. I have a feeling he only gave them names since the characters are changing so much. It's like a sign post of character development. |

I believe that refers to Vic Boss too. I don't recall anyone calling Solid Snake Old Snake in MGSV. He was marketed as 'Old Snake' though and in-game text said 'Old Snake'. People said he looked old and that was as close to his marketed codename as dialogue got. |

Im on bored with this theory it seems like it would be a great storyline within the game. I really do expect BB to have a lot of internal conflicts i this game. |

I think an identity disorder would cheapen Big Boss' journey in this game. |

Not necessarily, it's a realistic psychologic response to trauma - PTSD from sever war trauma can lead to a split in personality in order for the psyche to manage through the emotional turmoil and physical pain. This can also explain Big Boss' descent into evil and madness, not that it's an excuse for his actions/behaviours, but more of an actual realistic reasoning and causation. I understand it is an actual coping mechanism in response to trauma. Though Snake having an alternate personality perform all his evil deeds, instead of himself slowly becoming corrupted by his anger and thirst for vengeance, would mean that what Kojima is trying to show in his bridge from MGS back to MG1 would become pointless in my view. |

A decent into madness would be kind of cool eventually. Maybe it plays a conflict throughout the game, but he realizes that being Punished Snake is doing him no favors whereas Venom Snake gets shit done and gets him closure/revenge. Maybe he chooses the dark side ala Anakin/Vader. That would be kind of cool, and would explain how he goes all out evil. |

This cocktease has gone on for too long. Just call him Big Boss and commit to it, damnit. President Johnson: I hereby award you the title of Big Boss. John: Nah that's okay. I don't deserve it. MSF Soldier: Vic Boss! John: Call me Snake. MSF: Oh... You got it, sir! Kaz: Hey, Boss. John: It's Snake, Kaz. Kaz: Oh right. Fair enough. John: Actually, now that I think about it, The Boss was full of shit. I'm better than her. So go ahead and call me Big Boss. Kaz: Er... Okay, Boss. John: Actually, let's go with Punished Snake. Kaz: Are you fucking with me, Boss? John: It's Punished Snake. Kaz: I don't even.. John: No! Venom Snake! Has a better ring to it, don't you think? Kaz: That... That doesn't even make sense, Bo- John: VENOM SNAKE. Kaz: I think I need to go lie down. SPOILER ALERT: This game ends with Big Boss telling everyone to call him by that code name, and Kaz blowing his own brains out in frustration. Edited by CIN, Jun 12 2014, 12:29:16 AM.

Yea, I see those as just like symbollic names or whatever. I don't think the name Venom or Punished Snake is going to be dropped during this game. |

It's not retcon if the name evolves, which I'm pretty sure is allowed even though it will give you one less thing to whinge and moan about. |

Wait, at the end of PW, doesnt he finally decide to go by the title of Big boss? Hence he finally accepts his tiltle. Even in GZ, everyone at least calls him Boss. With the exception of Kaz and Chico, which I can attribute to them being closer to snake. |
