This Is Good, Isn't It?
So at the end of the trailer Big Boss says:

"I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea.
I will always be with you"

He states this after stopping a soldier from scattering a specific urn.
With BB saying that and adorning ashes like war paint.
This had to be someone close to him.

It has to either be Chico or Paz.
It would make more sense though since Chico is just a boy
And the entire events of GZ were to save Chico and possibly Paz.

I don't think he would rub Paz's ashes over himself.
So what's everyone's opinions?

I loled at the part of "a theory to upset me."
It may be Chico, but I really think it was just a random soldier, since Big Boss is extremely dedicated to all his men. Besides, if Chico died, why keep his ashes for 9 years?

EDIT: It could also e that Big Boss is talking about someone else, such as Paz. I mean, symbolically speaking, the end of Paz started the moment she fell into the sea and was forced to leave motherbase, leaving her friends behind.

I suppose I would be happy if this was true. I can't really say that I want Chico to be alive.

agreed i believe this is a general statement to all his comrades, he will remember all of them and take them and their memories in his battles yet to come. The sea will only forget them, he will carry them for an eternity. I think this goes along with Outer Heaven, find a place where all soldiers are wanted and will always be remembered.

Not really, I mean, there are lots of urns, and that just happened to be the first. And I've been revising the trailer, and it seems like the urns belonged to the coffins that were being cremated, and Big Boss was covered in blood, making me think it was the people in that crash at the beginning of the trailer. It could be Chico, but I just find it unlikely. It could also be Ishmael.

There is absolutely no reason to believe this is Chico. Besides, it wasn't only one person's ashes, there were several urns.

This is the most likely scenario:

They burned the bodies of several Diamond Dogs soldiers like we've seen in the trailer, who all died due to some reason. After that, they gathered near the sea at the base to scatter the ashes at sea. A soldier comes forward with the first urn with the ashes to scatter and Big Boss stops him. He opened the urn and rubbed the ashes on his face.

Big Boss: "I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you"
Kaz: "We're not burying them at sea?"
Big Boss: "We'll make diamonds out of their ashes, take them into battle with us"
Kaz: "A shining light..... For our brothers in arms"

This is a way more likely scenario than the ashes being Chico's or Paz's

You forgot the last bit:

Big Boss: "We are Diamond Dogs"

Kaz: "Uhh. Yeah boss. It says that right here on our patches"

Eh I dunno, him wanting to make them all out of Diamonds makes me think otherwise.
Plus that soldier carrying that urn looked to be first in line aswell, I think he would have done that regardless of whose ashes.

I think he says that to the DiDo soldiers that are in the urns.

I get the impression from the way Kaz is talking to Snake (while they are burning them) that he's blaming Snake, who probably feels guilty himself for the events that resulted in their deaths.

That's my guess anyway.
PEACE will come.

I think what would give this clarity is knowing where in the chronology of TPP that moment at the beginning of the trailer is -Snake walking amongst the rubble, bloody and the moment he breaks, screaming. Obviously that is not him waking up after the crash of the chopper in GZ, because he has the robotic arm, so there will be a catastrophic moment on a huge scale once again after BB has woken. I'm just having a hard time picturing if that will be prior or after theDD mother base is built.

The ashes I believe could be from after that moment, where snake is walking I ruin. I cannot see snake waking from a coma years later then having all the ashes of the soldiers lost in the PW mother base. Had snake. It gone into a coma and the ashes were Chico's that would be quite strong and powerful, but I just cannot see with withing the chronology of the events.

To be honest this event thing should have been after the heli crash. I dunno it makes the whole ''I can still feel my dead comrades'' thing less strong and kind of redundant since he'll go through that phase with DiDo rather than losing Mother Base.

It seems that Diamond Dogs suffered a defeat in Africa, so they're cremating the dead soldiers. Maybe grown-up Chico is one of the soldiers killed in that battle.
You too have known loss, and that loss torments you still. You hope hatred might someday replace the pain, but it never goes away.

Maybe, just maybe, after Big Boss came back from the coma, one of his first order was to took remains of MSF soldiers who died when attack on Motherbase happened 9 years ago from the bottom of the sea and it's them who are they cremate.

I don't think it was the ashes of anyone specific.

To me it looked like they we're just about to begin scattering and Snake stopped them before they could start, like he'd changed his mind.
