Liquid vs Big Boss

So, it looks like Liquid hates Big Boss from the very beginning. In the scene were he's trying to kill snake in the E3 trailer, he has a jacket that says Never Be Game Over, with his own little insignia on it of a pig wearing an eye patch. Its the same jacket he's wearing in every scene we've seen him in so far. I don't think there's any one event in the game that makes Eli turn against Big Boss. I think he was just raised to hate him after he was created.

Makes me wonder if Solid was raised similarly at his point or if he's just completely separate.

kojima is incredible! how the fuck have i not seen that?!
Liquid always will be better than his father, he gave solid more hell tahn any foe in the saga, a helicopter crash would only stun him, not putting him in a 9 year coma, think about it, he the most vicious son of bitch in the series.
Anyway, this is the most hyping thing about this game imo, i dont give a ratass about the angsty BB, but his relationship with his sons is something i always wanted to see on screen.
Karma's a bitch, huh? Fucking hack

Agreed. I'm looking forward to their dynamic too. Its always been talked about and hinted at since MGS1, but we never got to experience it outside the scene with Old Snake and BB in MGS4. Not even in flashbacks.

Ha! What a joke. What does being vicious have to do with surviving a helicopter crash? When a massive piece of metal comes along and completely crushes your arm, ripping it off, how will being vicious prevent it from happening?

point is Liquid is relentless and seems to come out unscathed from fiery helicopter crashes, massive explosions, certain death falls, and car crashes, and is only truly defeated by FoxDie. Big Boss on the other hand has to take a 10 year long power nap after his chauffeur takes a wrong turn into an oncoming helicopter. Maybe Liquid is just more lucky or maybe he is just that bad ass.

Well, he IS the superior clone of Big Boss. It should come as no surprise.

I got a 'lil bit of a theory for shits.
I could see Eli at that age being the "leader" of a small group of orphaned children or something; Boss notices a group of kids in the warzone and checks out what's up - maybe come across a few of the kids he's with and they take Boss to him. Anyways, Boss gets there and see's how they're doing, offers a place to stay at MotherBase; but Liquid with his cocky nature says something essentially like "No, we kids have lived out here for awhile on our own; we don't need your help, I bet I could even take you" - fight, "you're pretty good", notices some striking resemblances face to face and takes them all back to MotherBase; talks with Kaz about anything he might know - which leads to Kaz spilling the beans about the clones and Boss then going super hard on training Eli with negative reinforcement to the max.

I'm pretty sure Big Boss is aware that he's been cloned. I remember reading something such as "Big Boss didnt like Zero's plans for world domination but the Les Enfants Teribles project was the final straw and he left the patriots"

And I don't think Boss and liquid are just going to run into each other by chance in some random warzone.

Big Boss "chooses" Liquid and I'm guessing he tries to actually have some sort of father/mentor thing with him but as his war with Zero escalates and his sanity deteriorates, he starts unfairly offloading his hatred at Eli since he is a product of Zero's plotting. He starts calling him inferior blablabla and thats how we end up with the low self esteem nuclear armed terrorist in MGS1.

I imagine if Big Boss is to act as Liquid's father, Liquid would be receiving the belt a whole lot.
You too have known loss, and that loss torments you still. You hope hatred might someday replace the pain, but it never goes away.

I'm going under the assumption he knows they wanted to clone him and left after that; not knowing if it actually worked and obviously not receiving updates on how it's doing. It'd give him a reason to be suspicious about a resemblance at all; and a reason to talk to Kaz. and Ocelot even. about what they might know about how the project went.

Although yeah I do agree they probably aren't just going to run into each other randomly, just an idea I thought'd be neat.
Also, I definitely think taking him in after finding him however he does; then pushing ridiculously hard training on him, telling him things like "Kid, you're just a crappy little clone of me; you'll never be as good; you're an imitation" etc. could probably count as Boss "choosing" him and calling him inferior.

Ya that would make sense that he only knew Zero was planning it. During the Kaz and Zero phone call it seems they had either just been born or "conceived"

I always thought of Big Boss calling Liquid inferior as his way of motivating Liquid to better himself.

How much Big Boss knows about LET isn't really clear. I hope TPP finally clears it up. :)

And because he's a superior clone, the exact same accident would result him in not losing his arm or something like that? He's not made of metal you know, he's human just like BB is.

Assuming it's the helicopter crash that puts him in a coma.

Plus Liquid was in a cockpit and the Hind D could have spun and landed upright ;) Still Liquid is a badass and I love him.

Yeah, don't get me wrong I think Liquid is a wicked character.

I just think it's silly to say "Oh, Liquid wouldn't have broken his arm if the Boss had thrown him off the bridge because he's such a badass...". There's no validity in that argument because it didn't happen and until you put Liquid in the exact same scenario faced by BB, you can't say anything for sure. What you can do is use common sense, and say that if an accident was enough to rip off a man's arm then it would do the same for any other person regardless of who they are (unless they're a terminator or made out of adimantium)
