| When did GZ/TPP begin development? | |

I was recently thinking about this, seeing as we received the first trailer for GZ in September 2012, and the first trailer for TPP in December 2012. More often than not, once a trailer is released, the game comes out WITHIN the next 2 years. Of course there are exceptions to this, but the most recent example that came to mind that is of equally ambitious scope is GTA V. November 2011 trailer, for a September 2013 release. This is probably me just being hopeful that in this case, seeing as GZ came out 18 months after its trailer, that TPP will release by December/January (cutting it fine on the 2 year line). So when did the game begin development? There were of course tech demo's for the Fox Engine in 2011, and Kojima also spoke about 'Project Ogre' in 2011 also, so that'd be my guess when the game began development, seeing as the Metal Gear Rising take over from Platinum Games happened in late 2010/early 2011. If all of these assumptions are indeed correct, and the game probably began development in early 2011, how much of the game would be left to develop? The game is likely approaching 4 years of development by the end of the year, so would it be at all possible that the game could be out by December with a release date at TGS? This is all probably wishful thinking on my part, but considering the likely time of development, the release of the trailers to the release window of the game itself, I personally feel that the game could still release at the end of the year by a narrow margin, but with a more than likely delay into 2015. |

MGS4 had its debut trailer in TGS 2005 ,which is around September if I'm not mistaken, and the game was released on June 2008. Around three years of advertising!! Which mean that TPP could take till the end of 2015 to be released

I think it started from Ground Zeroes in late 2011 up until now. As a matter of fact, I think GZ was 75% finished when they showed it at PAX 2012. The real work was on TPP. We can't judge that the Fox engine accomplished its mission until we get our hands in the game. |

kojima is incredible! how the fuck have i not seen that?!
|
i shit on westerns devs and their dumbed down games plently, but they are a hell lot more effective in dev/work time than their japanase counterparts, just look at Rocksteady and Batman, they delayed the game sure, but the announcement was this year and and we gonna get the game next year. Devs like Ubi would finish this game in 2 years max without problem, this 3/4 years wait is just stupid. The engine is a complete failure so far if that is the case. We can't really base the release of the game off of past releases because with the fox engine kojima productions had to learn an entire new engine and the fox engine is suppose to speed up productions so games can be made faster and easier...plus this is the largest game they've ever made. If mgsv really is as big as they showed in that comparison of maps... If we don't get a release date by tgs then it may be a while longer |

I'd say it was concepted sometime before Peace Walker, but actual development didn't start until after Peace Walker. I think Peace Walker spawned from the early concepts for MGSV, hell it almost got released as Metal Gear Solid 5: Peace Walker. |

If the game was ready a long time ago, then it would have been rated by the ESRB. but, it didn't. GZ was rated two months before release. So, it's safe to say that the game isn't ready to be released and published yet. |

Bladewolf is right. It's ridiculous how soon Kojima shows off his games. This is how he ends up spoiling so much; he has three years to show it. |

The fox engine was first shown, with assets made and everything seemingly fully functional, at Konami's pre-E3 2011 presentation. It must have had at least a year in development before that if not two to get it functioning to that extent, so I'd say by now it's had 4-5 years in the oven. Konami already said during their fiscal report last year that they were targeting THIS FISCAL YEAR (ending march 2015) for MGSV's release, and the Ground Zeroes DLC already specifically said it would be available by early 2015, so now we're just waiting for them to nail down an exact date. |

It wasnt konami who reported this it was someone who sits down in their discussions who has tried to predict MGS release dates fir years and gas come up with mixed results. And im pretty positive that the "Come back early 2015" thing was a hoax because no one here has gotten the same message and the only proof we have is one photo taken by a noncredible source. Anything we have that can be used as evidence of a release date is purely speculation rn. Even the "Coming 1984" for all we know it could be a HUGE troll. Ik kojima said that there were hints in the trailer but again we dont know if he was actually talking about that. |

Ok, NO. just no. That teaser had no gameplay in it. The first ground zeroes trailer did. And "project Orge" has been in the works for a long time.. since 2011. |

Not really, no. The engine is supposed to speed up production, and who's to say that it's not doing exactly that? Do you have an idea how long it would've taken to make MGSV without the FoxEngine? No? Then you can't say it's a failure. For all we know, MGSV is ridiculously massive and would've taken twice the time without the Fox Engine. |

And your point is...? The engine is speeding up KojiPro's workflow, there is no point bringing other studios for comparison. I'm sure Rockstar got great dev tools and massive teams working on their GTA games, too. |

Rockstar spent 5 years developing that game. KP spent 3-4 years until now developing TPP. I stand by my comment that says " we can't judge the success of the Fox engine until we see TPP. |

My point is that GTAV got accomplished without a FOX engine in an allotted time. If this engine is as grand as it's supposed to be, we have yet to see why. Nothing about the game is groundbreaking in terms of mechanics. |
