| Movies or TV shows Kojima needs to see; Kojima seems to be going for a darker tone, but does he have the precedent to do so. | |

Before the 2014 E3 trailer for MGSV: The Phantom Pain, Kojima said the "new" trailer might be hard to watch for fans of the series. Even more so than the previous year's trailer. However, upon it's leak, many fans commented that there was nothing wrong with this trailer. It lacked the shock from 2013's Red Band trailer, and it's soundtrack wasn't as interwoven as Donna Burke's "Sins of the Father." (Nothing against Mike Oldfield's "Nuclear." I'd been listening to it before E3) i understand Kojima wants to do anything else besides MGS, and maybe this is his way of distancing himself from the previous games, by going darker. But for a man whom claims to be 70% movies, he seems to lack the know who, as this is displayed by the trailer. I am looking forward to TPP, but I feel that Kojima could have learned things from a couple of movies or shows. 1) Game of Thrones- Shows don't get much darker 2) 24 - If your gonna have Sutherland, know how to use him 3) Act of Valor - If he brings back the ability to play as a MSF soldier from Peacewalker, it'd be nice to have some AoV style missions with Co-OP |

i disagree. 2013 trailer isn't darker just because it has that gory surgery on Paz. Being darker means more than just gore and that's why i think 2014's trailer is darker. It hasn't gore but it has Big Boss doing some questionable things and act a little crazy. Plus, you see him walk on a burned village (with what looks to be child bured corpses) and he is all covered in blood. So i really think this one was darker, but it's a matter of opinion, i guess. Anyway, i think Kojima should watch all seasons of Breaking Bad because he has seen only until the 2nd season and maybe if he watched it all, he wouldn't be so afraid of pushing the limits |

He's made it vocal Big Boss is kind of like Walter White from Breaking Bad. Mind you, Hideo has only season the first two seasons so he hasn't even truly seen anything yet. And I agree about him watching 24, that would be a great tool to help him see Kiefer's strengths. But I imagine he didn't just hear his name and go on board, he probably did watch some 24 before approaching Kiefer. |

Kojima said he went to one of his Hollywood friends to recommend a voice actor. They recommended Sutherland, and Kojima hired him. i don't know to what extent he knew of his previous work, my guess is Lost Boys |

A similar thread listed Fight Club, and in hindsight that was a pretty good choice for a potential inspiration. It should help in granting the Diamond Dogs staff that rowdy, misguided and cult-ish character. "His name is Dirty Duck. His name is Dirty Duck. His name..." |

I thought the first trailer was more empathetic in a sense we see "Punished Snake" and his comrades are breaking down mentally/physically/spiritually. This trailer is full blown Big Boss going to the dark side (face full of blood/Horns have risen) and then the peak at BB with Skull Face, (which we clearly do not know the context of) but it doesn't seem a good thing. I don't mind this path as long as Koijima does it right. A good film could be Oldboy, and the breaking down of the main character mentally broken and literally to point where he rather be in a dream state and completely wipe his mind of the things he saw and did. |

Iīm fine with that, as long as their new lack of morality doesnīt get ridiculous like *L2* "Big Boss, letīs now chat about how we hate children and we want them all either dead or being farmed because you know, we were deeply scarred and we canīt have a normal talk without displaying our cruelty." |

kojima watches lots of amazing movies and knows a lot about cinema. And you're saying that he should watch "24" ? Perhaps it's you that needs to start watching quality stuff |

Saying that he should watch 24 in order to learn more about Kiefer's strengths makes perfect sense. Also, 24 *is* quality - I'd go so far as to say brilliant when compared to the generally ordinary shows of its kind.

I know what he shouldn't watch (but no doubt did) - new Star Wars thrilogy. With all due respect to George Lucas, Anakin's fall to the dark side was poorly made. Breaking Bad, on the other hand, is a great example, but I remember reading in Kojima's twitter that he somehow only watched 2 seasons. |

Which really disappoints me. Had he seen ALL of Breaking Bad, he'd have much more inspiration. |

If your going to pay for Sutherland, use him to the best of his abilities. I acknowledge the fact we'll have a more silent Snake so that we can embody the character, but I feel that Kojima could benefit from seeing Sutherland at his peak. As for my own selection of movie watching, I enjoy films ranging from The Court Jester to Serenity. I wasn't listing my top 3 films. I was posting what I think might benefit the mind behind MGSV. |

Kojima says he never plays videogames. But I guess when your that good, it's hard to play something like COD or Battlefield. |

Oh shit, like wise words from the Captain himself. I want the game to be dark but don't make it children killing for 12 hours. Use it sensibly and use it right. Also recommending a person trying to make a dark game about the horrors of war a medieval fantasy politics show just...makes no sense. And if he doesn't play video games because he sees himself as ''above'' them then sorry i'v got news for the chap, MGS hasn't been good for a while. |

Luther is a brilliant series about the protagonist in turmoil. In fact BB and Luther have so much in common in character.
