Pop ins aren't a huge huge deal normally, but GZ had a lot of it and really bad ones at that. In the mission where you rescue kojima i shot the rocket launcher at the APC only to blow myself up because i hit the pile of tires that were stacked up next to the building. The tires were invisible and only loaded in when i died. That happened on the 360 though. Not sure if the ps3 version suffered from pop ins that bad. |

To be honest, I didn't really notice any pop ins at all in GZ the ps4 version. So I am not so worried about TPP.

That sounds promising. To be fair the demo looked perfectly fine and it was running on the ps4, so yeah i'm not too concerned either. |

Yeah, I don't see how there's going to be a problem. In the demo you can see soldiers over 200m away without binoculars and that's the important one. Ground textures from that distance are going to be the first thing sacrificed.

Pop-ins don't bother me as much as guards disappearing, that was a fatal flaw in GZ. Sometimes you zoom in on a watch tower and it's empty, get just a bit closer and BAM a guard appears on the watch tower, I got detected plenty of times in the prison area because that guard in the watchtower keeps appearing and disappearing. Also, if you knock a lot of guards out in one spot, some will disappear... They really need to fix that. |

Yeah, I can't believe some of you saying you experience no pop-ins. GZ on PS4 has some of the worst I've ever experienced. |

I don't think it would really matter because the draw distance is awful in the game regardless of which version. |

I don't usually notice pop-in too much, but it did get really distracting in Ground Zeroes. I noticed it quite a bit in The Phantom Pain E3 demo as well. |

With all this time being spent on the game, there's no excuse for TPP to have them. I'm expecting most to be fixed, considering they stopped working on GZ to focus more on TPP. |

It also doesn't matter since Both the Digital and Physical versions must get installed on the HDD. (PS4) So regardless of how you bought it, you will be playing from the HDD. I have the digital version and there is a LOT of pop-ups with models/textures/shadows... |

What's the reason for pop ins in a game? I'm not a developer or anythinbg but would like to know what are causing pop ins in a game? anyone? This game looks awesome but the draw distance is kinda last gen like the main reason why i hated most of the last gen games is the draw distance being so awfull, will they fix that in the future? i think like maybe 2015-16 will the year when we truly see the full power of the next gen consoles. |

This,I agree. They had so much time to fix the problems from GZ to TPP and now that they are hearing the complaints about pop-in I'm sure they will fix that.GZ seemed a little rushed anyway |

I'm no developer, and I don't know much about the subject. But from what I understand, it's to do with the game loading "cells" or sections of the game. Like there's a grid throughout the map, and the game only renders certain objects if they're within a certain amount of cells from you. I'm probably talking out of my ass though. |

Since you can't really fit everything in the RAM (Memory), developers stream data from the Disc or the HDD into the RAM when it's needed. For example, a Jeep in the distance won't appear unless it's in your field of view, since it's streamed into the RAM when you look at it, and then disappears when you don't. If there are pop-ins it means the data is not loading fast enough, so sometimes you move the camera and the jeep hasn't streamed yet. That's my understanding, anyway. Maybe there are other causes. |

Thanks darthnazgul and Rikitatsu, did a little research and found this Pop-up refers to the late rendering of backgrounds and visual in general, due to slow processing speed. In racing genres specifically, this means you'll only get to see what's on the horizon once it's too late, giving you the sense of the landscape 'popping up' onto your screen. This can have numerous problems, such as turns only becoming visible the very last moment, cars, trees, etc. You see, in those times, sections of landscapes were 1 space, instead of being rendered continuously. So a track wouldn't flow naturally as you progress, but it'd be 'built' together piece by piece, such as a lego, as you'd move onwards. You can see how that's a problem if the lego piece in question isn't put on in time for you to step on it. Edited by Zan Datsu, Jun 24 2014, 03:21:24 PM.

Really? Tell you what, ride a jeep around the base, then hit the SHARE button and upload the clip. I'll point out the pop-ins to you. |
